So Bresciani has a goal to make NDSU AAU ....
NoiseInsideMyHead replied to SiouxVolley's topic in Community
Sometimes, things just don't work out despite some awesome intentions and well thought planning. And it's hardly anybody's fault. Like all businesses (I'm thinking of you, Places to Eat in GF thread), technology enterprises come and go. Isn't the EERC, for example, notwithstanding its troubles of late, really more of an exception than the rule? And didn't Lesko, er, Dorgan hand out lots of government cash to a lot of different ventures over the years? Where's the accountability there? And there are no guarantees when the government invests money…you could build a $5M hangar or a $10M runway at the AFB, and still have the bombers pulled out the very next day. Leadership comes in different forms…prudence is knowing when to pull the plug or abandon ship (rather than merely throwing more money at the problem). Not taking a side on this one, but isn't there always more to the story? -
If it's a public contract, can't anyone submit a bid? That should level the playing field a bit for amateurs and non-experts. Still beats a free-for-all or a (shudder) "contest."
-
I'm prepared to dismiss the public input as token. The designer(s) will take in all of the input, naturally, but at the end of the day will practice their craft the way they want to. Otherwise, you end up with a hot mess.

No, because the ship's rudder will be firmly in the hands of professionals, not a committee. Public opinion will be sought, received, and weighed, but UNLIKE our volunteer friends and neighbors on the committee who had families and feelings, and -- let's face it -- who were between a rock and a hard place, the decision makers will be nearly impervious. If they're really good, they will immediately dismiss wayward input but will absolutely leave you with a smile and a handshake, feeling like you had a say. Such is the beauty of bringing in the outsiders.

They are certainly entitled to their opinions about the name, but what really impresses me is that the U of M has incorporated prescience into its student-athlete mentoring programs.

Get over it. He's gone. Show some class.

Fixed your post.

Pick a product you like, any product. Look at it. Look at its packaging, its design, its logo. Look at its advertising. 99.9999% of all of that was created by professionals. And whatever input the owner had, I'm pretty sure that was vetted by the pros as well. Design is part art, part science, part process, part emotion, part listening, part understanding, part luck, part skill, part passion, and part ego. It seems a little premature to write off UND on this one. We can only hope the toxic atmosphere of the nickname debate doesn't scare away the best designers.

The jinx is strong with this one. -
Can lightning strike twice? Do you want to go to that well again? Won't anything less than a home run taint the legacy and remove some of the luster and reverence? I'm no art critic, but you'd be putting a lot of pressure on the guy.

Immediately…by offering to carry the baggage of some of the anti-FH/anti-Kelley folks around here.

Understated…the way it should be. I like it.

Nice find…I hadn't come across his blog before. This inexplicable avian affinity has quickly transformed from quirk to aberration to phenomenon to trend to provable fact. I wonder if you could get anything close to even money odds if such things were open to gambling. Are there no "safe" nicknames beyond birds? What does this say about contemporary US society?

Here's the great part…you'll have a chance to offer up your two cents about what makes sense. http://und.edu/features/2015/11/final-nickname-runoff-vote.cfm

Reading some of the reactions on Twitter leads me to the following realization: Anti-FH people with identifiable Twitter accounts are either (1) independently wealthy, (2) very, very secure in their employment and/or future employability, or (3) completely insane. Having an opinion on a matter of public concern is one thing…expressing it with zero regard for how it will be perceived by those with less (i.e., no) zeal for the subject is another.

I'm guessing you open all your presents on Christmas Eve, too. For a "botched" process, you sure are antsy about the outcome. Relax.

No explanation for students, but the fact that this was opening weekend for GFYHA play couldn't have helped vis-a-vis area families. Looked like there were games back-to-back-to-back at ICON all day.

Hit Scotty's Deli (a/k/a Al's Lite) on South Washington for lunch today. Some familiar menu items (for those of you who frequented Al's) including several sandwiches and wraps, and the service was good. Seating felt sparse (nothing fancy about the furniture), and couldn't quite get over the 'Pita Pit/I've been here before' feeling, but overall a good experience. Interesting tidbit...only bottled sodas, so if you are a frequent re-filler at the fountain, you'll need to pace yourself or pony up.

Run your business like a destination, and people will find their way there. As for "casual" grocery shoppers? "Hornbachers" enjoys zero brand recognition outside of FM, so I'm not sure they're going to draw folks in off the street on building signage alone. That location kind of sucks for visibility anyway…stuff's built up all cattywampus on that lot.

http://www.wdaz.com/news/north-dakota/3881793-hornbachers-blocks-new-business-moving Doesn't say much for the business climate and welcoming new development. Although I'm not sure I would have picked that spot in that lot for a new restaurant.
