  1. Personally if we were going to make comparisons... it wouldn't be SEC. Think Big East Basketball circa 1980's We of course would fill the role of Georgetown, as the team everyone hates. Thread drift over on my part... carry on
  2. Looked like they were putting the last or 2nd to last beam for the roof up when I drove over Columbia leaving campus today.
  3. What exactly is to that rumor anyways? grades? some small and dumb NCAA rule that should have been gotten rid of years ago but still there and bites a player every now and then?
  4. Future opponents clash tonight in Moscow as SDSU travels to Idaho.
  5. With the impression of a blowout, UND went down to UNI and actually played semi-decent. Unfortunately, a 2nd half drought ended any chance of a major road win as UNI took a 64-52 win. SWSiouxMN Player of the Game from UNI: Terrell De Rouen First Impression was a good one, hitting 4 of 7 from the field, including going 3-6 from downtown. Need him to stay on the court more, he got into foul trouble early against UNI. Synopsis on Mayville State The Comets are already 3-3 on this young season, taking a doubleheader against Silver Lake College last weekend. Tonight they head to to Augie before coming up to Grand Forks tomorrow. Key Players: #42 Chuck Robinson (Jr) 6'7 Forward Top post player, had double figures in 5 of his first 6 games. Averages about 6 boards a game and can get up and block shots. Look for Mayville to attack our posts with Robinson, he is their tallest player. Our post play is still our weak spot on the team. #2 A.B Najee (Jr) 6'3 Guard Biggest shooting threat, can take it to the rack and shoot it from outside. Shooting around 49% from the field and around 33% from downtown. Keys to the game: 1) Assert your will: UND need to come out and use their talent to overwhelm Mayville right from the start. We cannot have a repeat of 09-10. Losing to an NAIA team will kill whatever momentum that has been gain from the game down in Iowa. 2) Hooker: He needs to get his confidence up after a so-so performance down in Iowa. Hopefully a 15-5-5 line or better with around 45-50% shooting should help with that 3) Post Play: Calc or Cashman... PLEASE STEP UP! The Call: This should be nothing more than a tune up game and UND should be able to name their score. If they struggle against Mayville, it will be a major red flag. Look for Hooker and Nash to get their games going after so-so performances down in Iowa, and the usual 15 points from Lenny (okay that was mean ) Get the team ready for a big test down in Brookings on Friday. UND 75 Mayville 45
  6. 5-0-1 on Saturday Nights Nice chance of pace Drake goal was soooo sick. Best Goal I have ever seen at the Ralph.
  7. The Big Sky Conference Tourney Matchups 1) ISU 8) SUU 4) Idaho 5) NAU 3) UNC 6) PSU 2) UND 7) MONT
  8. UND 24 UNI 21 2:55 1st Foul Trouble Cashman 3 Calc 2 Nash 2 De Rouen 2
  9. UNI with a mini run, UND calls TO 15-14 UND 9:31 1st
  10. 15-9 UND 11:48 1st Balanced scoring and hitting 3 pointers. But UNI already in bonus
  11. Cashman is playing, so his shirt lifted 13-9 UND 12:28 1st
  12. we may have a 200 yard rusher today at this rate
  13. More great field position for UND
  14. Botched punt gives UND 1st and goal
  15. The season gets underway tomorrow as UND travels down to take on UNI. Synopsis on UNI (predicted 2nd in MVC) UNI didn't have a typical year last year, finishing around .500. However, don't expect this again from Coach Jacobson and crew. Expectations are high once again in Cedar Falls to challenge Wichita State for the conference crown. They have the players to run a high octane offense that can stroke it from beyond the arc (ESPN has them as one of the top team in the nation for shooting 3's). The defense was the biggest issue for them last year, so if they can clear that up and shoot well, they could make some noise this year in the MVC and potentially in the NCAAs. Players to Watch: #10 Seth Tuttle (SR) Forward 6'8 One of the best post players in the MVC, rebounds extremely well and shoots at a high percentage. Excellent free throw shooter and if you give him the shot he will take a 3 every now and then. We will have our hands full with this guy #5 Matt Bohannon (JR) Guard 6'4 This man has one job... and he does his job quite well. He can shoot the 3. Have to keep his open looks to a minimum #1 Deon Mitchell (SR) Guard 6'1 Stud Point Guard for Jacobson. Can beat you a number of different ways off and on the dribble. He is a little weak from the line. Sneaky rebound guy, not afraid to mix it up every once and a while. Keys to the game: 1) Be ready to handle UNI's Pressure: They play a pressure defense so Hooker, Tyler, De Rouen need to handle the rock and not be careless. Keeping the turnovers to around 12 or less will help keep UND in this game 2) Efficient offense from UND: UND cannot have many empty possessions, so they need to make every possession count and make sure to find the open man. Make the extra pass. 3) Perimeter D: Contest UNI from the 3 point line. Make them work for every 3 they get. Communication when running man or zone will be critical to make sure there is no breakdown for the open 3. UNI will make us pay for every look they get. 4) Limit 2nd chance points: Rebound the ball. Put bodies on the man and be aggressive on the defensive boards. Limit the chances Tuttle gets on the O-Boards The Call: Some say this could the best team we play all year. I disagree and think the Gophers hold that distinction. This is going to be a very hard game for UND to win. Everything needs to go exactly right for this squad with a bunch of new parts to have a chance. But this is basketball and anything can happen. I think UND surprises people by playing well and giving fans hope that this so call gelling period will be less than previously thought. However, UNI has enough experience and talent to get Jacobson his all time winning mark at UNI UNI 74 UND 62
