  1. UND did exactly what it needed to do against a lower division team, started off strong and put them away early. Now UND will take their show on the road for the next two games. First up, a trip to Wisconsin to take on UW-Milwaukee in the first of two matchups this season. Like UND, Milwaukee is a team in transition. They lost their top 4 players in scoring from last year, including 3 players who transferred out of the program (Bell to UAB, Stull to Gophers, and Nze to Butler). So they are looking for players to step up and provide consistent scoring as they prepare for another season in the rugged Horizon league. They were picked 8th out of the 10 team league. Like UND, they played on Tuesday, taking on Boston College. They raced out to a 10 point halftime lead and extended it to 13 early in the 2nd half. Then things got out of hand as BC remember that it was an ACC team and outscored the Panthers 46-13 the rest of the way to come away with a 73-53 win. Milwaukee is coached by 2nd year head coach Pat Baldwin, who went 16-17 and 8-10 in the Horizon in his first season, finishing 5th in the Horizon. They made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Horizon League tournament before falling to eventual champion Wright State. Who to watch for Milwaukee Darius Roy: 6-2 Junior Guard The Mercer Transfer gave the Panthers an important boost off the bench, scoring 15 points in the loss. He was a catalyst for them in the first half as during a 12 minute stretch to end the first half, he had scored 11 of his 15 points during this time. In addition to the 15 points, he also dished out 6 assists. He will be someone to watch out for in the 2nd unit (unless they deicide to give him the starting nod) and the guards will have to do a good job containing him to prevent another performance like this. DeAndre Abram 6-8 Junior Guard The George Mason Transfer is starting his first year in Milwaukee, and he had a solid night against BC. He had 9 points and 8 rebounds in the contest. He is someone that can step out and shoot the 3. He was in a bit of foul trouble as well, but he will pose a problem for UND against their inexperienced post players. Fun Facts -This will be a return for Zac Saddler, who played on the UW-Milwaukee team in 2016-17 but transferred the following year. -These two team will play a return match in Grand Forks on December 9th -Since they do not have football, this is considered their Homecoming Game -Conner Avants currently has 889 career points, so at some point this year he will surpass 1000 career points. Seales (826 career points) is also a strong candidate to do so this year as well. Key Questions: 1) Which newcomers will make a bigger impact: UNDs or Milwaukees? 2) How well can UND shoot the ball from downtown? 3) How will UNDs bigs, outside of Avants, play against a similar sized front line? 4) If Brown and Walter are expected starters for the long-term, will one or both take a step forward and make an impact? The Call: First of two matchups between these squads and both are trying to replace important pieces to their puzzles. UND will find out a lot more about their squad in this matchup than they did against Northland (and probably more than their next 3 games to be honest). Unless Cortez or Avants goes off, I expect this to come down to how well the newcomers can play on the road in this case. Can Moody repeat his shooting performance, how will Davids and Marko handle their first true D-1 game, what can Jal potentially do when he is not saddled with foul trouble? I could see this one going either way, but I will give a slight edge to the home team in this one. Milwaukee 80-77 Game will again be on ESPN3
  2. Hard not to when its a run-a-way from the first 5 minutes. They still are pretty bad. Last years were solid.
  3. I think Saturday will be a better litmus test, but you know what I like about Seales night? Went 4 of 4 from the line. I would love to see him shoot at least 75% from the line this year. Can Moody be that consistent 3 point threat? Looked good last night, nice stroke. Any reason why Filip didn't play in this one? Redshirt? Here was the story on Marlon. If this is the case, then Walter and Brown need to step up for the Junior class. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4525814-und-mens-basketballs-top-returning-scorer-out-indefinitely
  4. UND 10 Northland 3 under 16 media Seales with 8, he is looking good early
  5. Seales with another and 1 opportunity here. Aggressive drive there
  6. Avants and Seales have all 7 points so far
  7. Starters are followed: Brown Seales Davids Avants Walter
  8. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4525209-investigation-finds-rep-emily-obriens-und-claims-unsubstantiated Didn't know where this was talked about in the threads, but no surprises here.
  9. Got away from them a little bit at the end of the half 41-30 Cuse
  10. 24-21 Cuse with 4:23 to go hanging around so far. BTW: Since UND has gone to these Sidearm sports for stats... amazing. Massive upgrade
  11. Greetings! Welcome to another year of gameday thread by yours truly UND starts their 2018-19 campaign off with a non-conference matchup against Northland College.. a D3 school in Wisconsin. These two played last year in a ho hum 78-41 victory for UND. Taking a look at UND, you will see a lot of new faces on the team this year... 8 new players, including 6 freshman, have joined the squad and several will be expected to make a major impact right out of the gate. UND returned a core 3 of Avants, Seales and Stewart that have plenty of starting experience and key reserves Brown and Walter. Hope to make these better as the season goes along. Not much info to go off of right now. Might have more after tonight. What I am interesting in seeing tonight? It is always hard to take a good measure on these type of games, but I am excited to see some of the new players and what role they will play on this squad. Are the Euros ready? What can we see from Jal? Are the juniors ready to take another step up? Where will the 3 point shooting come from? I hope to see a few potential answers tonight. I'm just excited for the season to start. They should be fun to watch. Game is on ESPN3 and Fox College Sports
  12. 13-12 UND, halfway through the first not looking half bad right now.
  13. Up 11-7 after the first 3 minutes
  14. What bothered me the most was when they went for it the first time and what they called. Going play-action would have been better than a hand-off. Think that result set the tone for the 2nd one. Its frustrating... unless they get a gift of a playoff spot, 1 year of playoffs with this group of seniors? UGH!
  15. That's who it was. That is a pretty telling quote isn't it...
  16. Trying to remember which player did this but I remember at least one player trying to waiving the punt team off.
  17. I have zero hope of playoffs Although it would be a nice bone to throw if they got in this year at 7-4 after the screwjob that was 2015.
  18. He got beat out by the current QB (who will probably break all of the school records for passing). Last year when he got injured, Wilke finally got a chance before he got hurt. When they got a 6th year for Gimbel this season, Wilke switched to WR.
