  1. Those aren't the two choices. They are: keep a nickname lose teams (football at least) and water down hockey, or retire the name and allow the athletic department prosper. There are no other options.
  2. Here's a question. If there is no NCAA and we're in something new and different would other schools still have a problem with Fighting Sioux? It kinda feels like it to be honest.
  3. i graduated a Knight and didn't think twice about wanting to have been a redskin. Fighting Sioux may be a better nickname than redskins. Redskins may be the dumbest nickname of all time by the way. The only red skin I've ever seen is sun burned white people in the beginning of summer. Anyway, although Fighting Sioux may be a more legit nickname compaired to redskins it still needs to go for the sake of the school itself. As a former athlete at UND I graduated a Fighting Sioux and grew up one but I have no delusions about how badly we can't afford to keep the nickname and logo. It's just time to move on, regardless of if some of us want it or understand why.
  4. Central lost a bunch of talent to juniors. Red River didn't lose anything that I can remember. I'm not sure about other schools other than DL with Thompson and Minot with that one kid. And every sport has been down in the state the past couple years. Especially hockey and football in Grand Forks.
  5. Not gonna lie. It's alot easier to lead youngsters than vets. They often listen better because they havent been there before and look up to the older guys.
  6. Jameer Jackson absolutly obliterated some DB's trying to bring him down. Broke a good 6 tackles on two consecutive plays for first downs. He has a good 60 lbs on those CB's. They kept going lower and lower on him the more he ran them over. Nobody wants to hit him. Braden Hansen looked very sharp. Bradley was ok. The recievers and QBs didn't quite click for the most part. The running backs had nowhere to go due to the defense dominating the young linemen. The defense was flying around and made it a very long day for the offense, holding them to only one touchdown. The kickers were good today. No Miller kicking again. Naastad was 3-4 and Gutierez was 2-3 on kicks.
  7. Porter anyone?
  8. Are there any kids from the GF schools that could be prospects? Any underclassmen even?
  9. Hansen has it all but wrapped up. Hendrickson is making a good push for the number two spot, although I don't know if the coaches would be willing to demote Bradley to number three. Hansen will separate himself from the pack in the spring game.
  10. Darryl Brown might need to start going by 'shut down" Darryl Brown after todays performance. He dominated what I saw of the practice. He has some serious swagger and game to back it up. Look for big things from him this year.
  11. Don't forget that second semester the McMillan boys would be a great option together on a line with their history.
  12. The late times will give the student body enough time to nurse their hangover and then get lubed up and actually support the football team this year. No student wants to wake up 'early' on a Saturday to watch football with a pounding headache.
  13. Should be the black hole for that game
  14. I know for a fact they're getting new unis, I had heard from a god source that some stealthy new helmets were in play but I haven't heard much of that recently.
  15. Oh and speaking of D2 guys, Miller reminds me of a smaller slower Ryan Chappell.
  16. I can't say Sutton is fast because he's not, but he is a load. The reason he gets hurt is becuase of how he runs and where he runs. He runs through people instead of around like Jake. At about 230 we need that type of physical back on our team. He gives our offense the balance it needs. Jake and Jer are quicker and faster but they won't be breaking too many tackles any time soon like Sutton does. They all compliment eachother and give us a well rounded backfield for next season which is very exciting. Also don't forget that Sutton was dominant against Fresno St. until he pulled his hammy. He's no Jake Miller but he can still ball.
  17. care to elaborate?
  18. He reminds me alot of Josh Murray. More powerful and hard nosed with more pop behind his pads and better long speed. He's very strong for a freshman and fast enough. But when you look at the depth chart this year doesn't favor him. Miller Sutton Garmin then Sparks if he's ahead of Butler if he comes back and Shagaubay. Should be a very solid special teams contributor and could get mop up duty but I don't see alot of carries next year barring injury.
  19. The expectations of fans are what make programs great they root as hard as they expect teams to play and they get pissed when they don't win becuase they want it so bad. We should be happy with our very spoiled fans, although some take it too far I will admit. Who would you suggest? Bring Blaise back? Hakstol has done quite well. York didn't win crap at BC until recently in his long career. It took him 7 years to win his first and then 7 more to win his second. Look at him now. Three years ago at NDSU their football fans wanted Bohl gone and now they worship the ground on which he walks. It's UND it'll happen, don't forget that luck is involved in winning a championship and maybe it's being stockpiled right now.
  20. Skill was never in question but what really seemed to piss people off was that he seemed to be playing not to get hurt and would shy away from certain physical situations. He just seemed to have no heart which at UND is never tolerated by most fans.
  21. I've seen him hit the roof of the Alerus at the 50 yard line with a throw. My jaw was on the floor.
  22. refresh my memory on Lee, I can remember him not having the greatest time at UND but I can't remember what it was or why? Maybe it had to do with his hitting opposing players with his purse instead of his pads?
  23. You said that there wasn't a big difference between the two, which, given what Goska meant to last years team as the heart and soul, was a little bit of a slap in the face. Goska's passing efficiency was 128.0 Bradley was 99.0. In four starts Goska passed for 999 yards which is basically 200 more than Bradley in 7 starts. Goska passed for 9 TDs to Bradley's 3. Comp % Goska not very good at 59% and Bradley at a Jamarcus Russel-like 52%. The point being, Goska made a massive difference for last years team. Bradely could make a huge jump like Goska did as a passer, but given his machanics, stature, arm strength, pocket awareness, and leadership I don't see him being better than Hansen this year or Comes next year. I like the guy but I just don't see a D1 qb when I watch him play.
  24. Please don't make me post the passing stats for each guy from last year. Bradley's stats are terrible. You sound like you're a huge fan of him. I was hoping he would be the real deal when he came in last year but after the first game it was very clear that he didn't have it. I've seen enough of the practices to notice that Hansen is at another tier, there is a reason he was rated 18th in the nation coming out of high school. His touch and reads are unreal and he has barley been in the system. After a summer and fall camp I think he will be the best we've had since Freund except this time the guy is 6'5" with a stronger arm.
  25. Theres a reason he was replaced by Goska nuff said
