  4. USS Comfort will leave NYC after treating 179 patients in 3 weeks. NYC says the conversion of the Javits Convention Center into a temporary hospital reduces the need for the medical ship. Turns out the ship wasn't ever really necessary, but it's good to hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.
  5. https://www.sccgov.org/sites/covid19/Pages/press-release-04-21-20-early.aspx California saying they had a Coronavirus death on 2/6, 3 weeks before the previously recorded first US death on 2/28.
  6. I don't blame the hospitals for adjusting quickly, it's to be commended. I simply disagree with drawing too strong a conclusion from this analysis of data that could be seriously flawed.
  7. Any concern that this was simply a retrospective analysis rather than a properly controlled, randomized study? Edit: NM, found it https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.16.20065920v1.full.pdf
  8. Idiots come in many shapes and sizes.
  9. In the age of twitter, all nuance and context are lost. Unfortunately it goes both ways and important decisions are being made based on headlines, rather than underlying information, both in this fight and in life before the Rona.

  11. 36% in Paris. Also, now that these people are stuck with their partner pretty much 24/7, I'd imagine the percentage that actually report domestic violence is even lower than it is under normal conditions. https://www.euronews.com/2020/03/28/domestic-violence-cases-jump-30-during-lockdown-in-france?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR3tgwBwa0oVE90qny89t2pwqhPp3n4o-r4j9w5z5auE-jx7d8DqCV9Riuo#Echobox=1585376018

  13. 3 months ago the WHO repeated China's reports that there was no human to human transmission.
  14. Doesn't flattening the curve actually prolong the outbreak? I'm not saying we shouldn't attempt to flatten it, but people saying we will beat this sooner by staying in aren't looking at the same charts as me.
  15. Would the meat packing plant (food production) have been shut down under a stay at home order?
  16. We're gonna take a little breather while everybody calms down and refreshes themselves with the forum guidelines. Nonpolitical conversation can continue here in a few hours.
  17. We were doing well on politics lately until the last 2 posts. Clean it up. Moderators
  18. Someone coughed on the potato salad at the church potluck.
  19. Hmm, in North Dakota 3% of tested patients are positive for covid 19. They're only supposed to be testing people with symptoms indicative of covid 19. If we start just saying everybody with a sore throat and a fever has covid 19, that seems inappropriate to me. Now if one household member tests positive and the others are showing symptoms, I'm fine with not wasting a test on them and just adding them to the list. Hopefully that's what's actually happening and they just didn't go into the details.
  20. Certainly some of them likely died at home of covid. Is it not also probable a lot of them were too afraid to go to the hospital for other ailments under the current circumstances though? And is it not also probable overdoses are increasing with the increased poverty and loneliness? I also find it likely someone suffering a stroke or heart attack, who would've previously been saved by their coworkers or friends, are now dying alone at home.
