I count 7 freshmen and 5 sophomores.
Looks like we will take our lumps early and (I hope) make a run late in the season.

Rodents have a nice advantage with 1st Rounder Snuggy coming back for a 3rd year. Wish we could same the same.
If Michigan and/or the Boston schools don't lose anyone early, I will be apoplectic.

Much needed.
I imagine with Blake gone he'll have an even bigger role to play in 2024-2025.

So how many holes do we have to plug before October?

Carolina to Jackson Blake: "We love your game and think you have a great chance of playing in the NHL almost right away (proverbial blowing of smoke up his arse). Even if you have to play in the AHL for a time, you will get more games against better competition, you will learn our system and you will get paid. And, you don't have to go to classes anymore." Jackson Blake to Carolina: "where can I sign up?"
It is very hard for a young man who has never had any $ of his own to turn down the opportunity to get a paycheck and to pursue the dream of playing in the NHL. The problem is that most don't realize that (1) many of those young men are being signed solely for the purpose of restocking the minor league system and will never play in the NHL and (2) the team is just pouring honey down the player's throat, rubbing his belly and telling him how special he is, but it is just smoke.
I wonder if they promised him playing time with the big club?

Maybe he's anxious to start his pro career. I can't blame him for doing what he thinks is best for him.
That doesn't mean it's going to work out like he thinks. He is now just a piece of meat to be used however the Hurricanes want. I would have held their feet to the fire and demanded a rookie maximum contract. He had all the leverage and he gave it away. He needs an agent that knows how to negotiate contracts.
I hope he is successful, but I am a skeptic at this point. He is not Jonathan Toews.

Why would he take that low-ball offer when he had all the leverage? Someone was giving him bad advice. I would have told the Canes either the rookie maximum or nothing.

Blake signs. *sigh*
Good luck, young man. I'll have a lot of fond memories of you.
He's gonna need that good luck. Or he could surprise me.

Allow each major city to have a 4 year liberal arts school:
UND (Grand Forks)
NDSU (Fargo)
BSU (Bismarck)
MSU (Minot)
Everything else either goes away or is affiliated with one of the four schools above.

I have never been to a frozen four and thinking about possibly going and taking my 5 yr old since our favorite team didn't make it to the Faceoff or this. If anybody has 2 tickets out there you might not be using for Thurs or Sat. let me know. Thanks
I have two I am trying to get rid of. My cell number is 701-213-3956.

Ok, I get it, never said any coaches would be offended but alums. Class of ‘77 here & proud of it as are my classmates, friends & family. Got no beef with you personally, all good.
Fair enough. Class of 1998 and 2000. Love UND and always will. Long live the Fighting Sioux/Hawks.

Just wondering where allegiances lie. Know several alums, on this board & around the Midwest are offended from bashing individuals (players/coaches) & the negativity + sense of entitlement some choose to hold on to. Time to move on, it is what it is, our storied hockey program will go on with life in general. My only entitlement is that dinky social check 1x/mo. I’ll hang up now & listen.
Okay, now listen to this:
It is totally fair to point out our postseason meltdowns. If the coaching staff is offended, then they need to get into a different line of work. My position is it isn't a lack of talent, it's from the neck up. Berry and his staff need to figure out why this team loses its edge after clinching the Penrose. And if that makes me "entitled", then so be it.

How does someone tell you and stay anonymous?
They use back channels. I don't know the identity of this person either.
Unless something is official (from the player himself or Schloss), I wouldn't put 100% stock in it anyway. Blake was supposed to have signed with Carolina on Monday and we are still waiting for it to happen.

Here’s a comparison for ya …… NC$$ D1 basketball has 351 teams & counting, D1 hockey, 64 & counting. C’mon people, enjoy what UND has. Kentucky only has bouncy ball really and IMO, their alumni can’t hold a candle to ours in support of our Alma Mater, be it hockey, fb, bb, or whatever.
Kentucky has high expectations of their MBB program, just like UND has high expectations of their hockey program. Calipari's one-year freshmen NBA Lottery Picks weren't yielding the results they had hoped, which is probably one reason he is no longer there.

An anonymous source has told me that Berg isn't signing, he is 100% coming back. On the subject of Whitelaw, he has some ability, but is not well-liked by teammates.

I'm certainly not giving up on them, by any stretch.
Just lowering my expectations a little. With Blake & Berg and our current portal additions, I would peg this team as top 5 pre-season.
With both Blake & Berg gone, they won't be a top-5 team in my opinion. Of course, that can change if they progress during the season.
Less talented teams than that have won the title in the last decade. There may be some big portal additions in the coming weeks and months. Even if there aren't, this team may be better if everyone chipped in on the offensive end and not just one or two guys.

Unfortunately puts a big dampener on our offensive chances for next season with Gaber and potentially Blake/Berg gone as well. That's our top 3 goal scorers from this past season. Highest returning goal scorer would be OMac then with 13 goals.I know that some returning guys will step up with increased ice time and special teams play and that we have a very good recruiting class and portal pickups coming in...but that's a lot of talent and points to replace. I feel less optimistic about next year's team since the Blake/Berg news has been floated around. Of course, maybe they could put it together at the end...that's my hope.
Too early to give up on next year's team. Let's wait and see how the team looks when classes start in August.

Maybe they are still negotiating? If they low-ball him, I'd tell them to go pound sand.

All fairly large markets with nice amenities for the most part, with the exception of Duluth.
Grand Forks has never been a "large market" compared to other places. And yet, we have 8 NCAA title banners hanging in REA, along with 21 conference title banners.
I think these private schools can sell their excellent academics to potential recruits. That is especially attractive to kids that know they are unlikely to make hockey a career.

Now that Blake is gone, maybe our other forwards will step up and pick up the slack.
