You're definition of "disaster" is interesting.
A disasterous March would've been losing to WMU (1, 2) then UNO (8, 9), then swept by Miami (15, 16), thus missing the Frozen Faceoff and likely falling out of the NCAAs.
Everything that happened after clinching the Penrose. Is that precise enough for you?

Exactly, Wilbur. We can be fans of the game and program without letting results make or ruin our day. Small stuff/big stuff.
That doesn't mean you won't be available if they're in a pinch for a tendie, though, right?
Nobody is saying it should ruin somebody's day or life. But I don't think pointing out that March was a disaster for this team is out of line. Because it is true. And pointing it out has nothing to do with anybody's kids or whether or not our families are more important than the results of a collegiate sporting event. We get emotionally invested in this team because we are fans. And I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Playing in front of the best & most numerous fans in hockey-crazed GF and the best college rink in America wasn't enough to sway his decision. Nor did UND's "culture" or tradition win him over. I think it highlights that he trusts Carle more than the UND staff to get him to the next level. I don't blame him, it sounds like he made a practical decision based on comparisons between the two schools over the last 6-7 years: one coach excels in the regular season; the other, the playoffs. If I were his advisor & not a complete UND homer like I am now, I would have also tried to steer him towards DU. Future head-to-head battles w/ DU over star players may play out the same way as Pohlkamp if Berry doesn't fix his mindset & start bringing home some titles. The precedent has been set.
Shhhh, don't bring inconvenient truths into this (sarcasm).

There's a significant difference between acknowledging problems and saying things like "nothing good happens here anymore"
Okay, how about "nothing good in the past month"?

Nope. That was retired in 2016. That's never coming back.

Nah, I'm good. Don't feel like I need to get into a pissing match about how depressed I am about the program.
I don't want a pissing match. I just think acknowledging there are problems is not a sin.

Logic says there's something between the two that would be a little more rational. Just saying.
Name one good thing that has happened for this program over the past month. And the Penrose Cup was in February, so you can't count that. Just saying.

Oh for Christ's sake. Your comment is without merit. UND’s recruiting class is ranked second next season. Besides, where was said recruit going to fit?
The last month has been a total disaster for this team. Denver is in the Frozen Four and we are still searching for answers. That is what is causing my sour mood. So forgive me if I'm not giddy as a schoolgirl right now.

Need some good news today guys..
Good news doesn't happen here anymore. If Berry and company can't sell the program, then we are in big trouble now and in the future. I am tired of playing second fiddle to other programs.

If Blake plays at UND next season he would become a free agent Aug 2025
That is why he should come back to UND next year. And he should tell the Hurricanes the decision is final. Blake gives up significant leverage by signing now.

One of my favorite memories of that season!

If he goes, he goes, and I'll wish him well. I never fault any of these kids for making decisions about what they think will be best for them.
The only thing I hate is when players leave right before classes start in August (WeatherBYE anyone?). This would not be that situation at all.
If he leaves now, I hope he gets used to being a healthy scratch in the American. If he gets knocked down at this level, imagine what fully grown men at the next level will do to him. Ouch is the word that comes to mind.

Does a recruit want to go to a school where hockey is 3rd or 4th on the agenda or come to UND where it is #1 for a whole community? I think some players can't handle that kind of pressure, but if they want to get to the NHL they need to learn to handle that pressure. UND sets a player up to get used to that pressure and it shows with the number of players we have in the show at any given time.
This is a very salient point. In the B1G, hockey is 3rd (4th if WBB is doing well). In the NCHC and even Hockey East, hockey is #1 or at least #1a.

Grand Forks has never had the amenities of places like Denver, Minneapolis or Boston. But it hasn't stopped us from winning championships. And there is no reason why UND can't continue to be a blue blood in this sport. The thought of devolving into a mid-major program whose highest goal is making the NCAA tournament is nauseating to say the least. It absolutely must not be allowed to happen.

Today's GF Herald poll is "Are you in support of a Bubba Schweigert extension?"

I voted (won't say which way), and of the 1343 responses, 57% are in favor and 43% are not.
It's unscientific, so it isn't worth the bath tissue it is printed on.

An anonymous source with knowledge of the situation has told me that Pohlkamp will be on campus today and Wilkie will be on campus tomorrow. The source also says we were late to the party on Wood but there is mutual interest from both sides. So I guess we are still in the running for these players.

Not sure how much insider info he has, but Alex Micheletti is pretty much saying Pohlkamp to Denver. Damn! He would have been a great addition to our blueline next year.
Anyone else sick of losing recruits to Denver? Anyone else sick of Denver in general?

Huh?
Tyson Jost left after one season and struggled mightily when he was sent to the Avalanche after signing. Blake will likely get buried in the AHL and may never get more than a cup of coffee in the big leagues.

Then he'll be the next Tyson Jost.

And let's remember, all those "blue chippers" are not going to stick around 3 to 4 years. Once their seasons are over, they'll have NHL reps dangling contracts with dollar signs on them. A mix of 1-2 year and 3-4 year players is probably the best approach.

Last time I checked, Denver is not in the B1G. They are a small, private school. Yet they are killing us in recruiting and the portal.
