  1. I think Joel is a big UND hockey fan, but for all the other sports, it's all Bison, Bison, Bison.
  2. KFGO is in a vulnerable position losing NDSU athletics; they will be looking for something to plug that gap. If the best thing is NDSU, then the second-best thing is UND. Like I said, Karma is a beautiful thing. The shoe is on the other foot and we might be able to get a better deal because of that. What else are they going to put on? MSU-Moorhead and Concordia?
  3. It might be a combination of Sandy Buttweiler switching to WDAY and leaving her long-time partner Jack Sunday and Mike McFeely leaving and being replaced by Dan Hammer. I imagine that has caused some people to jump ship.
  4. It has been my experience that KFGO comes in much better than WDAY in Grand Forks and in other places as well.
  5. I didn't wear a single piece of UND gear for a month afterward.
  6. What in the heck do Joel Heitkamp's political viewpoints have to do with coverage of our sports teams? If I thought The Flag in Fargo would do a good job of broadcasting our games, I would be all for it. Even though they are a right-wing Tealiban station. Simply put, KFGO has a monster signal that reaches a lot of people all over the region. Nobody would have any trouble picking up our games. That is my main motivation for snatching up 790AM. That and p!$$ing off all the Bison fans in the region! And for the record, Dan Hammer holds down the 2-5pm time slot on KFGO and he is a self-described conservative. *drops mic*
  7. Proving once again how political and subjective that award is.
  8. My thinking is this: KFGO now has a big hole in their programming schedule, a hole that is not easy to fill. They are going to want something to fill it up. Therefore, we have some leverage here, leverage we can use to get a good deal. Karma is nice sometimes; they kicked us to the curb 7 years ago and now they are the ones out in the cold. That is my thinking here. Whether it would work or not, I don't know.
  9. I think Pat Sweeney is doing a good job. Michaels wanted to cover NDSU, let him keep doing it.
  10. This is a great idea. It's not like KNOX has anything worth listening to anyway.
  11. Again, this is a brainstorming thread. I am not going to debate anybody on the appropriateness of even talking about this.
  12. A huff? I don't think I am in a "huff" about this. NDSU doesn't need a Grand Forks partner because KFGO comes in very well in Grand Forks. UND is on FM stations that don't carry as far as AM stations; that is the main problem. Too bad KNOX doesn't do our games anymore, they have a pretty good signal.
  13. Really? Then how come I don't hear much about UND outside of Grand Forks? We just don't seem to be as well known in the region as I think we should be. Publicity matters.
  14. Most Grand Forks media is based out of Fargo (except for iheartradio). So we are basically screwed out of media coverage no matter what we do? No wonder NDSU has a bigger media presence in the ND/SD/MN region (which is where a lot of our supporters live). I don't know what the solution is, but our media coverage is very inadequate compared to NDSU. And that has real consequences for our programs and our university. Having said that, even if KFGO does nothing but broadcast our games, that is still a big positive for us. KFGO has superior ratings, a better signal and a better reputation than WDAY does. That is another argument for looking at this when our contract expires. If you don't like what I propose, I am more than willing to listen to any other ideas people may have. This was a conversation starting topic, not a debate starting topic.
  15. The best argument for players staying in college is what players from the past who left early to sign a pro contract have said. Almost every one of them have said they wish they hadn't left early.
  16. It was a brainstormed idea. Or does that not meet your approval on this forum? And all WDAY does is suck up to the Bison when they are supposed to be our flagship. I say we dump WDAY and go after KFGO when the time is right.
  17. Just heard this on News and Views: http://www.gobison.com/news/2016/3/29/general-north-dakota-state-announces-media-rights-agreements.aspx Now that KFGO is, shall we say, fair game, maybe UND could move in and fill the vacuum? Someone on the Frozen Four thread was complaining that Joel Heitkamp doesn't talk about UND enough; this would change all that in a hurry. Not to mention p!$$ off NDSU fans! It is time UND was proactive about stuff like this instead of being reactive. Get on the horn and get it done!
  18. I hear you, but I'll take any media coverage of this program that I can get. The more UND is talked about, the less the almighty Bison are talked about.
  19. Surely you realize that any Fargo media person who dares to criticize NDSU coaches gets summarily blacklisted? That is probably part of the reason for this.
  20. This really p!$$es off the Bison faithful down in Imperial Cass County! They HATE it when the media talks about ANYTHING connected to UND. That is why I am glad Joel is doing this again.
  21. That would also require a long-term commitment from UND to find the resources necessary to move up to FBS in football (the stadium is just one of many issues that would have to be addressed). In other words, we are a long way from making that happen.
  22. First of all, if you are going to slam someone, please get your spelling straight. BARRY.....really? Second of all, this post is the runaway winner for unpopular post of all time on ss.com. Congratulations (I think). And lastly, as a long-time critic of Hakstol, I don't think it is right to call him arrogant. Everyone who has met him will tell you he is a nice guy who appreciated all of the support the program gets on an annual basis. Criticize his coaching and his "baseline" systems if you want, but don't make it personal.
  23. Ha, ha, ha...good one! I just think as long as we are alive and in the hunt for #8, we should think positive. If we don't win #8, we have all off-season to gripe about it.
  24. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  25. RIT is like Butler in the Men's Basketball Tournament.....a team you don't want to play.
