OK..  Where is UND's announcement page?  St. Thomas was still a D3 school when UND started fundraising for phase two of the HPC... pretty clear by now that UND's athletics fundraising isn't the example to follow.

Things run a little differently for a public University in North Dakota as compared to a private school in Minnesota.  Also helps when you get when you get a check for $75M.

  2. If UND misses the tournamnet again this year, it will only be the 4th time in the last 27 season that they haven't made the NCAA tournament.  And 3 of those would have been in the last 7 years under Berry.  Now, on the other hand, the other 4 years under Berry's tenure, they won the league 4 times and won a National Champiionship.  So I guess the question is can this fanbase take the ups and the downs?

That all being said, I think we all as a fanbase need to maybe just pump the breaks just s second.  UND has won the last 3 Penrose Cups and were robbed of the 2020 season where they were a likely favorite to win it, and were a 5OT loss away from going back to the Frozen Four just 2 years ago.  No I know that being fans of this program, we are all used to seeing this team in the Tournament, and missing it this year would suck.  But before we turn up the heat on Berry's seat, let's let next season playout and see whow this team bounces back.  This year sucked.  But the last 3 prior were pretty good.

    Another possible tell:

If they don't announce moving spring ball to later it's an internal hire.

If they move spring ball back they're looking externally.

I think they would have moved it back whether it was an internal or external hire.  Feb 20th is less than a week away.  Give the coaches in their new roles a little more time before practive starts.  I still think at this point the best move is to promote within.  Probably thier only option at this point.

  4. It's time to go away from the 3-4 defense.  Need to have a defense that can put pressure on the quarterback.  Would love to see the new DC implement a 4-3.  What do we have to lose!!  Somethings needs to change.

You're talking in a bit of a circle: You say a practice facility would help a program ... and then take one away from hockey?

Hockey uses the Olympic for off-season work and training and camps and prep for big rinks and when the main sheet is otherwise unavailable (like a concert last weekend).

The plan is to have a game facility and a practice facility for the Ralph and the Betty. See page 11/25.

So maybe the better question is does the Ralph need an Olympic facility?  I feel like they could reduce the size and upgrade the extra space appropriately.  You are right.  Hockey needs a second rink.  Maybe just not the size it is now.

Looking forward to seeing an upgraded Betty, new practive courts and maybe even a ptential upgrade to the Olympic rink.

  6. Here's a question.  Does the hockey team really need an Olympic sized ice sheet to practive on?  There are only 6 schools thgat use an Olymnpic sheet and really only one we play consistently (SCSU).  It made sense when we had the wopmens team to avoid ice time conflicts.  But is it really necessary now?  Instead of building seperate volleyball/basketball practice courts sonnected to the Betty, why not just convert the Olypic rink to a facility with basketball/volleyball courts, new locker rooms, weight room, offices, film room, etc.  Seems like a better use of the space.  Plus a renovated Betty with a state of the art practive facility would deffiniely help recruting and transfers.  Just a thought.

So if they did this at the Betty are the 4 corner beams going to be a problem , how do you do a bowl with those in the way

Might not be able to do a complete bowl as the pillars in the corners appear to be holding the roof up.  Seating mught have to be similar to Fargo dowm with end seating but no corner seating.   Bigger issue is the ends with the low ceiling.  Would likely need some rmodeling.  All things that cost money, but I think there is a foundation with a similar name that is on the building that can maybe help out with that!!

I want bowl seating, or what we can do, and fans closer to the court. At the Omaha game, fans were sitting courtside. I feel like many years ago we had true courtside seating too for at least some games.

Look at the plans for the new Frost arena.  This is absolutely something they could do at the Betty.  It even looks like the Betty with the one suite on the one side.  I think they could puyll it off, and it would be great!!

  9. Tranfer portal is here at college basketball.  How many quality transfers want to play for a team that has had single digit wins the past 2 seasons and is looking to do that again this year and looking to finish last in the conference 2 years in a row?

That should help us.   I'm not fond of transfers in the first place, I figure if they were all that good they would have stuck it out where they were, but more importantly, I doubt the team will have gelled much by the time we play them.   That's a lot of new people that have to mesh.

Missouri State had 43 transfers that joined the team last season.  Hoe did that work out for them?!!

From Mr Irrelevant to taking the starting job from the former #3 draft pick? Tough to argue with Purdy’s success, even if the 49ers didn’t win today. Is Lance now the #3 QB on the depth chart?

Lance is the starter.  As good of a run that Purdy had, he upside is still not as high as Trey.  He will be the bakcup behind Lance and Jimmy G will be traded elsewhere.

  12. Didn't want to start a new thread, so I figured I would post here.  Just say that Minneapolis is looking to put out a bid for the 2026 World Juniors.

I find the timeing intersting considering St Thomas just anounced that they are bulding a new hockey facility with a 4000 seat arena last week.  I could see a bid proposal using the Xcel and the new Lee and Penny Anderson Arena as sites for the tournament.  The new Anderson Arena is scheudled to open fall of 2025.

Not sure how old picture is, but looks like boards are up in this one. Can't remember what they did when NDSU played UND at the REA.

I always hoped that UND basketball would get to a level where they would have to play games consistently at the Ralph.  Not because they wanted to, but becuase they had to due to attendance being to large for the Betty!!  Someday....maybe!

  14. Sather is gone.  The writing is on the wall.  With only one year left on his contract, it's not going to be a huge buyout.  Announcement should be made the day after their eventual loss in the Summit League Tournament.  Hit the ground running and have this position open right away.

  15. UND currrently 7th in the NCHC standings.  8 points out for home ice.  Next two series are against #6 UMD and at #8 Miami.  We then end the year with Series against the top 4 teams in the league.  Now playing those teams can help us catch up in the standins to secure home ice pretty quick.  But this team has to get at minimum 9 points over the next two weekends to even put us in a position a chance fro home ice.
