  1. Wide receiver should continue to be a team strength for the next few years, now lets just hope Mollberg is the real deal.
  2. I'm not going to jump to any radical projections (see football season), but this team has the potential to be anywhere among the top 5. With an all junior lineup (Anderson, Webb, Huff, Brekke, and Nash), the experience and depth on this team is pretty impressive actually.
  3. I don't think the talent is the worst ever, its just the opponent's offensive talent is the best we've ever played against consistently, hands down. We have to load up on some great athletes if we're going to compete at a high level in the Big Sky. Mussman obviously realizes the holes in the secondary if he's making this positon switch, so I would definitely expect some JUCO corners and high-level recruit DBs being brought in this off-season. Its needed to defend these prolific pass offenses in the Big Sky. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see some defensive coaching changes if Mussman deems necessary. Ultimately, Mussman will be given this offseason to try and correct this thing, unfortunately.
  4. They will improve if the correct adjustments are made. That is what football coaching is all about - adjustments. After this season, Mussman needs to sit down and address the areas of this team that made for the losing season. If he doesn't, he isn't adjusting and losing will continue. I agree this thing can get turned around and we shouldn't be too impulsive, but this won't just fix itself.
  5. Well that just demonstrates how stupid some NDSU fans are then.... *Bohl's record at NDSU after their first MVFC season (2003 - 2009, 7 seasons) was 52 - 25 (67.5%) *Mussman's record at UND as head coach over half-way through the first Big Sky season is 26-24 (52%) Does Mussman have a shot to turn this thing around? Yes Will he be given a shot? Most likely, Yes Does he do it? I don't know, but he will have to make some changes to both players and coaches in order for it to happen...oh, and also his coaching style
  6. Mussman is not a good head coach, and this season's progress and situation is not the tipping point. It's just hard to ask for a guy to get fired when he's coming off an 8-3 season (of course, the schedule was a joke). Mussman DOES NOT possess the fire, passion, and leadership a head coach requires to motivate his football team. His demeanor will not get it done. Compare his attitude to other quality coaches....no comparison. Lennon had a fire to him and could lead a team. Hate to credit anyone from the Ag school, but it's hard to ignore the job Bohl has done down South - he leads his team, is respected, and instills confidence. Mussman's players think he's a joke - not a good situation if you ask me.
  7. To even talk QB controversy is ridiculous. It doesn't matter if our QB is Tom Brady or Peyton Manning if our D gives up 500+ yards a game!! Hanson is the better overall talent, hands down (No NFL scouts looking at Hendrickson, and I dont think Hendrickson was recruited by any FBS programs) so let him play and do his thing. The defense is the problem, not the QB position. If the D was even decent, we may have won down in San Diego, and likely would've beat Northern Arizona last week.
  8. The defense is horrible. Too many slow, non-physical players out there. Defensive coaching isn't at its finest, I'll admit, but the players aren't helping any. There needs to be an overhaul on that side of the ball, especially with the Dline starters being all seniors.
  9. Bauman is by far the best back in the Big Sky, with a few others tied in the second place spot (DJ Adams, Deonte Williams, etc.). Heck, I'd say Bauman is FCS All-American. I'm still upset that our tv announcer (p*ss and green ag school fan) Dan Hammer had to mention on the broadcast that Bauman is only debatably the best, with the good backs from his fav conference MVFC being possibly better. Doesn't surprise me though, since everyone is jumping on the bandwagon for the team down south.
  10. Considering the hype coming into this season, this year is already a disappointment. Also, the defense is horrid and if it were at least in the middle of the pack in the Big Sky, we may have two more wins against Cal Poly and Northern Arizona. This game will be exactly like the Northern Arizona game, but I see a win because Montana doesn't have a big name stud like NAU's Bauman. Changes need to be made this offseason- the defense is just not where it needs to be in order for UND to compete at the top of the conference. UND 41 Montana 35
  11. Well, the defense is horrible and that is the reason we are going to have a losing record this season. As far as Mussman's job, I don't think Faison will let him go after only one Big Sky season, unfortunately. I have always disliked Mussman's coaching demeanor and attitude in general (doesn’t portray the confidence and leadership a good head coach needs), but I've held off him since last year when we had a winning season against mediocre-at-best teams. If Mussman wants to have this job for the long term, he needs to bring in alot of defensive talent and CHANGE UP THE DEFENSIVE COACHING STAFF. Ultimately, I don't see anything in Mussman and this game is not really the tipping point. Compared to other good to great coaches, he just doesn't have it. To true UND football fans, I don't think anything right now would energize the program more than a new solid, tough-minded head football coach.
  12. I actually do plan on attending that game, and thanks for the positive comments.
  13. No Brenneman, Benjamin, or Goodman?? That could make for a tough day defensively. I still stand by my earlier opinion that the only way we win this game is if Hanson has an outstanding day throwing the ball around to Hardin, Jackson, Golladay and the rest of the receivers. If we aren't scoring a lot of points tomorrow, I doubt we win. Of course, I could be wrong and I would welcome a surprise defensive performance with open arms - I'm just not expecting it. Hope everything works out tomorrow. GO UND!!
  14. Players take the attitude of their coaches. Take what you want from that.
  15. This season is likely not going into the postseason, so in that way yes. As for Dale Lennon, he has valuable experience in Illinois as a recruiter and as a head coach for several years now at the FCS level, AND he's familiar with North Dakota and UND. He'd be a great addition and fit for those obvious reasons if he'd ever consider coming back as an assistant, possibly DC.
  16. At the FCS level, our backs are average at best. Furthermore, a team with average FCS players will NEVER win the Big Sky conference. We need to improve our talent or the training and coaching of the talent. One of the two needs to happen for this team to compete for a Big Sky title. I'll admit it, before this season I apparently thought this team was more talented than they now show they really are. Big Sky top teams like Cal Poly, Montana, Montana State, and EWU all have very talented FCS players. Right now, UND just doesn't have enough of those type of players. I feel this PROGRAM has all the potential in the world of FCS football, also. But, the program is the constant, while the players and coaches are the variables. We haven't even concluded our first Big Sky season, so I don't want to propose anything too drastic, but variables need to be worked with to change results. Theres no question the first thing needing change is the talent. As the R.Fr and true Fr. classes get older, along with incoming FCS-caliber recruits and FBS drop-downs, this team will hopefully improve and work its way up the Big Sky. As for this season, next two games will determine the season's overall success or lack of.
  17. Lets see how run defense does against EWU tonight, and especially against Zach Bauman and N.Arizona, first. If we can contain NAU, we will hopefully be okay against Montana. As of right now though, that is alot to ask. Have to see some improvement tonight.
  18. The season's outcome from this point forward will be determined by improvement; if the team plays the way they did last week versus teams like Eastern and MSU, they will all be loses and we will be sitting home for the playoffs. Have to see improvement in the area of turnovers and rushing defense if we are to make a run at this thing. Good news is those sorts of things are largely mental, so improvement from one week to the next is very plausible.
  19. Yeah, can't play only half a game against a ranked team and expect to win. Hopefully the team learns from the Cal Poly game and improves for the rest of the season.
  20. I'm afraid your criteria are a bit off - speed is certainly not everything. Sutton is our most accomplished back this season; much more than Miller and Garman. With that said, our RB corps is not to Big Sky standards. We don't have a back that can create if the blocking is not there. Miller, as last week and Portland State demonstrated, is just too small and hesitative if the blocking is not there. Garmin also is of the too small category. I think some major recruits and transfers (FBS and JUCO) need to be acquired this offseason. Just look at some the backs in this conference: Zach Bauman, DJ Adams, EWU's and MSU's stable of backs, etc. Now, do our backs compare to any of those? Absolutely not. In addition to defense, we need to improve the athletic talent at RB. I do agree with your assessment on Mersereau; he can't play the run like Dominique Hawkins and Justin Belotti were able to last year. An underlooked aspect of our running defense this season has been our safeties; we are missing our safeties from last year as far as getting good run support.
  21. Simple Perspective: If we lose this game, we have to win out to make playoffs. That in its self makes this game very important. If last week wasn't a must-win, this week is...well...yeah...
  22. Our defensive alignment is the not the issue, the players' execution within the system is the problem.
  23. Turnovers and run defense. Have to improve both areas.
  24. Absolutely beautiful day in Grand Forks! Days like today make you wish we had a real nice renovated on-campus Memorial Stadium ready to go! Well, hopefully some day. For now, let’s beat down Cal Poly, get some noise goin in the Alerus and have ourselves a great time! Go UND!! I’m off to tailgate!!!
