  1. Two keys to the game for UND:

    1) turnovers

    2) time of possession

Can't have any turnovers on the road in order to win this one. That includes botched snaps and hand-offs. Also, defense needs to take the ball away a couple times.

Increasing time of possession limits Missouri State's offense and benefits UND's running game.

  2. Just because Kill can actually coach does mean they've gotten any smarter about their own instate talent, they still way under recruit their own state. UM has 31 in state players and Wisconsin has 48, with basically identical demographics.

A better UM might even be good for NDSU, because they would recruit better nationally and leave marginal talent to the Dakotas and UNI.

Wrong. Minnesota will be good when they bring in both national players AND regional players. NDSU still is benefiting from Brewster via the seniors playing right now. Nevertheless, NDSU has recruited and DEVELOPED well over the past few years and that can't be overlooked.
  3. I think Bubba and staff like their young OL. I say WR and RB and QB because they're harder to find and easier to just plug in and contribute. I do agree that the trenches are and always should be priority #1 from here on out. We just need a game breaker at WR and RB to make defenses worried.

Bubba won't play favoritism to the players on the roster like Mussman did. He and his staff will constantly be looking for ways to improve the roster and I think that includes upgrading both lines.

  4. Sounds like there was a commitment by a defensive player from the St Louis area today, per a Kevin Maurice tweet.

The only player from Missouri listed on Wiki is CB KiAnte Hardin; however, that would be a HUGE get considering the flood of big-time offers he has received.

    Let the speculation begin...

Edit: judging by the tweet, it's likely a defensive lineman or linebacker.

  5. Pretty accurate. I think if the coaches can land an FBS dropdown QB RB and WR things can turn around by next year.

Those groups are important to look at, but not most important, IMO. Let's look for FBS drop-down offensive and defensive linemen. Improvement in the trenches will improve this team the fastest; thankfully I think Bubba realizes this.

  6. ESPN Gameday going to Fargo two years in a row is huge for NDSU and their football program. Couple that with UND's poor performance yesterday, and it only further digs UND's hole deeper.

Bubba's resurrection job is going to be a real tough one, but I yet have confidence. For starters, have to develop something that looks like a viable offense. Defense and special teams already looked improved (give freshmen recruiting class and FBS transfers credit for that). Next season, Bubba should look into FBS transfers for the offense, IMO. Bottom line, need quality recruiting classes each and every year and continual discipline (turnovers and penalties) improvement.

  7. Any reason why Shaugabay wasn't getting more touches? I would much rather have him and Simmons splitting carries than Having Gatman in the mix. Garman just isn't a D1 running back. Too small. If you are going to be small at RB at this level. You better be pretty damn fast. And he is not.

Agreed. Sounds like Bubba (going off post game comments) will consider playing Shaugabay more.

Wth that, I think Garman should be replaced by Shaugabay. Garman is not suited for this level of football. Another RB that Mussman recruited that can't get the job done.

  8. Speaking of that, I don't like the placement of the GWFC championship banner. Why over the inflatable helmet and not on the other side of the field hanging from the rafters?

Speaking of inflatable helmet, what the heck happened to that yesterday. They deflated it right before the players could enter through it…

  9. get cheaham and reyes back soon and hopefully we keep getting better but that offense needs help now...hope jer goes from starter to last string behind kaulker

Cheatom played. Shea Walker and Reyes will help though next week.

  10. all the way to the top...sec 217...i would say the top five to ten rows would have obstructed views with all the crap hanging in the way...also why have stupid in game scores always on the board and the und logo and the next home game always there...if your gonna have a big screen use the whole damn thing...99 percent of all peple at the game have a smart phone that can tell them scores and when the next home game is...but this is the alerus center again

Don't agree. I liked the format. Like the advertising the next game to the casual fans and I like not having to check my phone for scores.

  11. I am hoping we see some Patrick Sharp today. People seem to be high on him but was disappointed to not see him play last Thursday.

After last week's performance, I'm pretty sure we're going to see a heavy dose of Cedric Simmons today. I'd say around 20 carries...

  12. Pretty sure we established it is going to be a long and difficult season. Nothing changed in the past two weeks except that 2 players quit (Carr and Rogers) and 3-4 more are hurt and probably not playing. The team sure as hell didn't get better this week.

Sidenote: if walk-on juco Aaron Rogers had not quit right before the first game, he would be starting tomorrow. Sometimes its best not to overreact to an initial depth chart. :silly:

    Difficult season, yes.

    0-12 season, no.

  13. He does have a point though...

If we can't handily defeat Robert Morris of the NEC, then it will be a long, difficult conference season.

I'm optimistic of the ability of the UND student-athletes, even the freshmen, when compared to RMU. San Jose State had the better talent vs UND, but UND should have the better talent vs RMU. I expect a win by at least a couple scores.

  14. UND 31

    RM-17

Ced Simmons has a nice day on the ground.

Very nervous that we may be playing two walk ons at the safety spots.

Yeah, that's very surprising about the safeties. Losing Reyes, Carr, and Montague, as reported by SFI, seems a little excessive.

Plus Dom Blackmon should be in the mix also, I do believe. Nevertheless, Bubba never alluded to any injuries during his Monday press conference, so I sure hope the same lineup that played vs SJSU can see the field again tomorrow vs RMU. It's the only way the team can continually improve.

  15. Looking forward to tomorrow's tailgating and game. I believe the freshman will play much better tomorrow with a game under their belt.

I believe we will win by 10.

    Go UND!!!!

Why not throw out predictions, I guess...

Robert Morris lost by 19 at home with 4 takeaways...

I personally think this young UND team will improve from week 1 to week 2 and show something at home: I say UND wins by 21, so I'll go 31-10 UND.

  16. Guys, we should be excited. A game under a new regime that we can really see the progress of the team.

What I like the most is the mindset these coaches have instilled in these men. As some of you may know, my son plays for UND, and I talk to him every single day.

Coaches in FCS have to work harder as do the players. In the BIG 10, for example, they don't like you or they think your not good enough, there is always someone in line just as good. These coaches actually teach. Unlike in the FBS5, they don't teach as much because you have 5 star recruits that are just animals from day 1; I.E., Jadaveon Clowney, Manziel, Hageman, etc. The top tier teams don't recruit, they reload. Also the boosters are out of control.

With that said, this coaching staff seems genuine. The are somewhat humbled because of what they got into, but, at the same time, they are excited because they feel they can make a change. The team is receptive and they work hard. I see ba!!$ on this team. Watching on tv, they did not back down. San Jose beat us because they're talent was more experienced. I say, if would've played SJSU on game 7 it's not 42-10. I'm not saying we win, but it's not a blowout. A few tackles instead of missed tackles, We could've had 2 INT's. I mean, it was just jitters and a few feet away from making major plays.

I'm looking fwd to this season. We are not going 8-3, but I feel we are not going 3-8 either.

Guys, my opinion. Glad to be a part of the SIOUX NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I agree wholeheartedly.

And for the record, I certainly am excited for tomorrow's game! This team will continue to improve each and every week if Bubba is doing the things I think he and his staff are capable of. Plus, I'm excited to witness in-person Bubba lead UND football!

  17. Game notes released: https://www.nmnathletics.com//pdf9/2779619.pdf?ATCLID=209634468&SPSID=58640&SPID=6399&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=13500

I noticed Cheatom is not on the two deep but at end. Isn't he a nose?

Only major difference I notice is Cheatom is now in the defensive line rotation; he must have been suspended last week. Add in Shea Walker next week and increased experience for the 2 true freshmen defensive ends and the defensive line should continue improving.

As for Cheatom playing end, he'll get more playing time at that spot as both Hinojosa and Shea Walker will rotate at the nose guard spot; that is, when Walker finishes serving his suspension.

  18. Robert Morris offensive lineman Jon Hill on UND:

"This team is bigger but they're not as athletic, they're just kind of like trying to plug stuff up. If we can get a push on them and move them out, from an offensive line standpoint, we should be just fine because they don't pass rush very well at all," he said.

Those are some interesting statements. Well, we'll just have to see how it goes I guess.
