Agreed. If UND wants to be a top FCS program, they (both the program and the supporters) need to expect a conference championship each and every season. That is what NDSU and Montana (a couple of the top FCS programs in the country) expect every season. For awhile, the transition and coaching change was used as a convenient excuse. Now, however, after a 7-4 season that could have been 9-2 with only a few more positive plays for UND, its time to expect consistent success. That goes for all aspects of the program; I expect the football program to be a top competitor within the FCS from here on out, and the UND athletics administration needs to support it as such by promoting the program and the gameday experience.

They don't respect a single FCS program. They think they're the best; they even criticized NDSU's program after they lost to them in the playoffs.

UND can finish second, or even first, if they win out. That's a tall task; however, because the games remaining against top 4 teams are on the road (@ EWU, @ Montana). Unfortunately, as great as UND has been at home in the Betty, they have yet to prove themselves on the road. I'm skeptical that they will get the job done on the road, but they are apparently capable.

I respectfully disagree. I won't go as far as to say you're delusional, but I think UND hockey fans are in a very good place with their facilities. Don't dismiss the REA as just "an asset".

UND hockey's following is largely attributed to the venue that the programs play in. Nothing to be distraught about; any $100 million facility would draw large crowds in Grand Forks, whether it was for football, basketball, or heck, even tennis or soccer.

UND didn't earn the hockey support it currently has; Ralph Englestad did that. UND men's hockey has as many national championships as UND football in the past 16 years. And don't oversimplify the support; winning is very important but Bubba is partially behind the support that his players give to other programs. Very unlikely you ever see the men's hockey team at basketball games or football games supporting their classmates like that.

NCAAF received 11% of the votes and NCAA MBB 3% of the votes in that poll, so it's partially relevant. As for supporting both football and basketball, that's my point. Because hockey is a niche sport with minimal national support, there's no reason UND and it's fans can't raise football and basketball to at least an even level. Parity thoughtout UND athletics, both administratively and support-wise, should be the goal.

Agree with the nickname politics, but there cannot be such a divide (i.e., bickering) that it holds back UND support. Eventually, support needs to be consistent throughout all sports. And, as I said above, there is nothing wrong with supporting NCAA hockey and UND hockey, but to try exaggerate it's importance at the expense of football and basketball is despicable.

It is what it is, now. If you're not embracing the nickname, or at least remaining neutral on the topic, then you're against the overall vision for UND athletics. Promoting the identity development of UND athletics, specifically football and basketball, is a step in promoting long-term, consistent DI success.

Of course, that's what many UND hockey only fans do. Nothing wrong with NCAA hockey, but to try exaggerate it's importance at the expense of football and basketball is purely laughable.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere that the football team brought into the building today. This needs to continue. As for the nickname thing, people need to catch up with the times or else it will leave them in the dust. Living in the past or solely focusing on minority ice sports will only slow UND athletics' progress as a whole.

I do not necessarily agree with you. The last couple games against MSU have been good ball games with some drama.

Very nice win by UND today. They finally got over that Weber State mountain. As for Jones, he - along with the entire program - deserves credit for today's positive performace.

Who recruits the players who pass the ball and shoot free throws? Brian Jones. The head coach (the ultimate decision maker) receives credit when the team wins and, rightfully so, receives blame when the team loses.

This is a big game for UND MBB, so per history, I expect Jones to choke this one away at the end. I hope I'm wrong. If UND wins, then times may be fortunately changing for UND men's hoops.

Absolutely. Couple the new staff with the positive changes on campus such as the HPC and you've got an upward trending football program. Very exciting things happening for North Dakota football. Playoff bound 2016!

Morgan R. Olsen, executive vice president, treasurer and CFO at Arizona State University, is my choice; however, they all seem to be worthy candidates. From an athletics standpoint, I hope the new president can appease UND stakeholders, increase fundraising, and further develop the UND athletics' budget distribution in such a way that elevates UND football and basketball to greatness. Of course, I - as well as many others - have several other investments and interests within the University that the new president will need to be competent in, as well.

I don't think there's a huge difference between Studsrud and Wilkie overall, so I'm fine with Studsrud if he decides to come to UND. Some people need to get a grip... The kid has potential but is no sure thing. There's plenty of other capable quarterbacks in the region, and I for one am fine with Studsrud. He's listed as 6'1" and has great athleticism. Rudolph can coach ball security and fundamentals, but you can't teach athleticism. You either have it or you don't. Throw in a few designed QB runs like NDSU did for Jenson and you've got a multidimensional offense that is tough to defend. I'd go with Studsrud. As for Bolinski, he's undersized and not as athletic as Studsrud. I wish him the best, but I question his ability to be a starting division I quarterback.

I can understand the current excitement from the fan base considering the proximity of National Signing Day; however, let's still have a sense of realism here. I certainly hope both Heidlebaugh and Bolinksi develop into great quarterbacks for UND, but I will believe it when I see it.

Well, I believe he is a preferred walk-on, so apparently the coaches believe Mr. Bolinske has a bit of an uphill battle ahead of him in terms of earning a scholarship. I wish him all the best. As for my comments regarding the QB position, anyone who follows UND football is aware of the drop-off that occurred after Studsrud got injured last season. Fortunately, Studsrud will be be the first solidified starting QB going into spring ball and fall camp for UND football in a few years; however, the depth is still questionable. Also considering what NDSU has done at the QB position in order to win five-consecutive national championships (all-time winningest FCS QB, a QB receiving 1st round draft buzz, and a very capable heir apparent ready to take his place in Stick), it appears the QB position is a bit important if you want to win championships. Best of luck to Bolinske, but it appears UND did not sign a scholarship QB this year; that could become an issue. I hope Studsrud can stay healthy in 2016 so this QB depth issue doesn't rear its ugly head again.

Hard to criticize the 2015 class too much with true freshmen starters Santiago and Tyus Carter starting every game. Also, nice contributions from Grady, Olivera, I. Smith, etc. The potential was definitely there with that 2015 class, but this 2016 class looks every bit as good or better. Should be exciting moving forward with these two classes from Bubba and staff
