  1. Such novel concepts relative to the previous offenses under Rudolph! I’m looking forward to the new offense. I love that Freund said the offense is centered around the QB play - that is so important. QUOTE: “I think you have to build it around the quarterback,” Freund said. “We want to be an attacking-style team that utilizes different tempos. I think you’ll see us get the ball on the perimeter a little more, getting the ball in space and out of the quarterback’s hands. I think it’s important to take shots, too. Explosive plays give you momentum and you don’t have to go 12, 15 plays.” http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/football/4533926-und-elevates-freund-offensive-coordinator#.W_tsFX493KA.twitter
  2. Offense has A LOT of experience returning for 2019. Freund is familiar with that experience and should have new ideas on what to do with it. We’ll ultimately see if those ideas improve the UND offense or not.
  3. The who else offered crowd has a fair point. Not every player with only 1 offer is simply “under the radar”. I’m always happy to see a well recognized and recruited player commit to UND, as should everyone else who cheers for UND football.
  4. Knauf was an issue as a football coach; thus, he got fired. Move along.
  5. Credential checkpoint time again? Always got to love when this subject makes its annual appearance on this forum. Emphasis on the post content.
  6. His post isn’t going in the newspaper either. Let’s not be overly sensitive. There’s a balance, here
  7. This is over simplified. Weight development of current offensive linemen is a key component to getting better at offensive line. Another huge factor to keep an eye on is offensive coordinator and offensive line coach hires. Will UND be a predominant zone or man team? I think UND’s current guys may be better suited for a zone scheme. Let’s see.
  8. Good point. We’ll see. Still hoping an external candidate with a strong quality of ingenuity applies.
  9. Very nice to see a flip from a MVFC program to UND. Good for UND football.
  10. Strength and conditioning is in absolute factor to injury prevention. Certain types of injuries, like the well publicized head injuries, are not as affected as others, obviously. But, in general, strength and conditioning improves outcomes. UND could definitely improve it’s strength and conditioning program for football.
  11. Anything in Fargo will be a slaughter. NDSU is loaded. I’ll take them over the entire 2018 FCS playoff field. Thank God UND plays them early next season and not this year.

    2019 Season

Regardless of who UND hires for offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, UND’s offense in 2019 should have plenty of talent and experience, including at QB and offensive line. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4532519-unds-new-offensive-coaches-will-inherit-plenty-experience-challenging-2019-schedule
  13. There are plenty of potential candidates I’d be happy with, from FBS position coaches to FCS coordinators and Division II head coaches. There are also some young division II coordinators out there with good potential. I’ll be happy if the hire and his offense ultimately does well come August 2019.
  14. Spot on.
  15. The receiver position has not been great. I don’t buy that. How many all conference performers in his 5 seasons? How many complaints about depth and speed this season alone? No need to boast this guy up more than deserved. He’s a great guy and former UND QB with great pride in UND but that’s all we know relating to being a division I OC. Lastly, anyone hired will have new ideas relative to Rudolph.
  16. Now this is a reasonable response and is certainly possible. A lot will obviously be based on the other candidates who apply.
  17. No it needs to be considered. Of course Rudolph could have been so closed-minded that he didn’t listen to his staff around him, but my point still should be openely considered and not just ridiculed as the simpler thing to do. I guess I’m still somewhat scarred from the last major in-house promotion that occurred for UND football: Mussman to head coach in 2008 and Luke Schleusner to OC in 2013.
  18. 1) Is Agnew being considered for the OC position? 2) Was Agnew on staff for all 5 seasons? Answer to both: NO
  19. Why was the UND offense so poor despite Freund being on the offensive staff the past 5 seasons? If he had the answers, we would have seen it on the field. And, of course, we certainly did not see those answers ever materialize; UND was never a consistent, competent offense - only isolated good games here and there.
  20. Rudolph “lit up the NSIC”? I don’t think we’re thinking about the same guy here. Rudolph’s Minot State teams were average to below average at best.
  21. For a single season ... Need more of a sample size than that.
  22. Okay, I’ll play. Who coaches the WRs then? The new OC? Freund then at QB coach? I am fine with Freund going to QB coach as long as he and the new OC are on the same page. There’s a lot of ways to spin it. Minor concern is that Freund was on this staff the last 5 seasons but yet the offense was still horrific. I’m going to just wait for the outside hires and/or internal promotions to actually happen and then I’ll give my opinion from there. UND needs a couple quality hires to ADD to the staff already in place. All this talk of internal promotion amongst a staff that has shown incapability has been alarming to me. UND needs to use this opportunity to get better and more ambitious.
  23. Rudolph prior to Bubba hiring him: No DI experience. No DII national championships as offensive coordinator or head coach. Limited playoff experience as St. Cloud State offensive coordinator His past accomplishments were not and are not overly impressive. Also, I don’t agree on your “requirements” point. I hope you’re just trying to play devils advocate because you really seem quite off on this. UND needs to find someone who will come in with a new sense of excitement and expectation for the offense. So important after the previous 5 seasons of poor offense. Also, asking for previous success at the program the new OC and OL coach come from is not asking for too much.
  24. Well, I’m happy you think I was happy, I guess. In the past 18 months, how has the quality of UND football been? I stand by my past comments and sentiments as UND football has been very poor over the past two seasons. It should be unacceptable relative to UND’s standards.
  25. That bunch has not done well at UND. Need new culture with successful past.
