  1. At least that will mean NDSU can't recruit, either. :silly:

Babich recruited following players in one class after going 2-8

    Craig Dahl S 6' 3 206 Madison Lake, MN

Justin Frick DE 6' 4 255 Yankton, SD

    John Majeski S 6' 0 180 Hastings, MN

Joe Mays LB 6' 0 230 Chicago, IL

Nate Safe OT 6' 4 280 Cannon Falls, MN

Steve Walker QB 6' 1 195 Lockport, IL

Mike Dragosavich WR 6' 6 200 Oak Lawn, IL

    Cinque Chapman-Pratt RB 5' 1 188 Chicago, IL

maybe Bohl is tanking this season and hoping for a higher draft pick

  2. And what they decide on the landscaping and site preparation issue will determine if UND did anything wrong. If there is evidence that previous projects have not included landscaping and site prep, than UND and NDSU will be off the hook for those portions. That would leave UND over budget by approximately $20,000 and NDSU still over budget by several hundred thousand. If there is no precedence for separating out the outdoor work, then both schools have a large problem.

    According to the BisTrib

Both well over budget (NDSU was way over)

NDSU used ~$517k of University Money

UND used over $260k of University Money plus whatever was spend on the home's landscaping, parking, driveway and patio costs, which are not detailed in a summary of expenses presented to the Board of Higher Education but which UND paid for.

    UND

COSTS: The Board of Higher Education also gave the University of North Dakota permission to seek legislative approval to raze the university president's existing home and build a new one, "at a total cost not to exceed $904,000." The University of North Dakota Foundation was to finance the project, using a separate $1 million pledge from Marcil.

OVERRUN: The completed home cost $1.26 million to build and furnish, including the late addition of some cabinetry and a security system and $47,682 worth of furniture and appliances. UND paid for the home's landscaping, parking, driveway and patio costs, which are not detailed in a summary of expenses presented to the Board of Higher Education. UND's new president, Robert Kelley, moved in when he started his job in July 2008.

NOT ALL DONATIONS: The University of North Dakota financed the home project's deficit of more than $260,000 with almost $112,000 in tuition revenues and about $152,000 in other funds, including interest income and profits from auxiliary services, such as food, book and housing sales, according to the expense summary.

    NDSU

COST CEILING: North Dakota's Board of Higher Education gave its permission for NDSU to seek legislative permission to build a new home for the school's president "at a total cost not to exceed $900,000." The Legislature's Budget Section approved the plan. The board's motion allowed NDSU the option to build a new house or add to the president's existing home. The existing home was razed and a new one built.

OVERRUN: The president's house cost $2.04 million to build and furnish, according to figures prepared for the Board of Higher Education. The sum includes site preparation, landscaping, exterior concrete work, parking, lighting, and $155,270 worth of furniture and appliances. It does not include $372,355 in donated materials and services.

NOT ALL DONATIONS: NDSU financial reserves, not donated money, were used to cover $516,159 of the cost of building the new president's home, or one-fourth of the total. The money came from university parking fees; profits from selling books, meals and housing; soft-drink commissions; and interest income.

  3. Just another MAC over Big Ten. Happens enough that I'm not surprised.

Big Ten schools losing to MAC and FCS teams has become routine over the past few years, and thanks to the Big Ten network, these embarrassing "upsets" are now broadcast nationwide

  4. That's an awesome announcement.

I worry about about the Griz not returning the game, as their and other Big Sky schools history suggests (Montana St., Idaho St.). I would think that Faison learned his lesson from Idaho St. last season and commanded a hefty buyout clause. However I don't think North Dakota is in much of a position to be commanding much of anything from Montana.

But I'm optimistic because they have been travelling a little more lately......Cal Poly last year, UC Davis this year, and I think Poly again next year.

    Is it just a home/home?

I know Cal Poly is getting 2 home games and 3 away games with their latest Montana contract

SDSU did a 2 for 1 with Montana before being snubbed on the return trip

If UND got a straight home/home (that Montana fulfills) that is pretty impressive

  5. I had to do this the old fashioned manual way, by going to NDSU's website, clicking on each home game to see the stats and adding up the attendance myself. Here is what I came up with.

All 15 home games - average attendance was 3336.

Of those home games, 2 were exhibitions (vs. U of Mary and MSU-Moorhead). If you take those 2 games out of the equation, the average for the remaining 13 home games was 3596.

Nice work, but you could have clicked on this link to get the same number :glare:

  6. Winona St. beat the Gophers a couple years ago. Something SU did not do.

Those Winona St. teams were as good or better than SU.

It was an exhibition game, Grand Valley beat Michigan State in an exhibition too ( I think the same year)

Kennesaw State won a DII title in men's hoops in 2004, yet finished this year 337 ( out of 343 teams) in RPI in DI

    It is a different ballgame

  7. Should be a fun time in the Cities this weekend! Great scenario for NDSU. They'll bring a great crowd and will likely be the feature game nationally in their time slot.

Looks like bisonville crashed again ;)

Gonna be a alot of NDSU and UND green in MSP next week

  8. I was trying to figure out why hotels are sparse to get for the Final 5, well it just dawned on me that the NCAA's for basketball were also in town. One word of caution. If you don't want to drive a long way to get to the Xcel, book hotels now.

Nodaks could take over Minneapolis if NDSU BB and UND Hockey are playing in MSP on the same weekend

  9. Congrats to the bison, also on a side note, the sdsu women are #14 in the country and are also dancing. Both qualified in their first year of elgibility. congrats!

Dakota domination... which will probably continue (especially on the women's side) when USD/UND join the conference

  10. Great Win for the NDSU Bison Basketball program.....They derserve to Dance....Congrats

Little confused on the play of Woodside the last 3-4 minutes.....chucked up a brick 3, had a drive to the hoop blocked should have dished off..?, then the Bison up 2 with 1 minute to play...they clear out for Woodside to go one on one and he chucks up a 35 foot 3....? (missed).....Then after Oakland ties it he goes down with 11 seconds left and hits the game wining two.....Ends up being the MVP

Fine line between Wining and Losing, glad it all worked out.....Enjoy the moment, these are never easy and the Bison derserve to Dance.

    Thank god for Michael Tveidt

  11. According to a poster on AGS who is a Sam Houston Fan, NDSU paid them around $40,000 plus air fare plus a return game to get them to come to Fargo. Granted that was a couple of years ago and expenses have increased but I still think it's crazy that we needed to pay nearly $60,000 to get an NAIA school to come in...

Generally home/home agreements do not require any guarantee

that is how tough it is to get schools up in ND

  12. This all means that good teams who have an option to play elsewhere (somewhere less costly to travel to, more appealing to visit and where they have a decent chance of winning), will go elsewhere.

not to mention that not many other schools recruit players from ND

  13. In theSagarin Ratings, Seattle is at #133, which is remarkable for a first-year Division I team. Seattle would be competitive in the WAC. South Dakota's ratings would make it an average team in the MAC or Sun Belt.

Sagarin only counts D-I games, coupled with the limited interplay between first year transitional schools (non-RPI counters) and established D-I teams makes the ratings more difficult

Ex. Sagarin has USD at 211 based on a 4-6 record against D-I schools, however they are only 1-3 against RPI counters- tough to make much of a judgement off that

  14. Forum editorial: UND logo threatens D-I move

Finally understand the Forums depth of concern about this issue. Imagine a UND-NDSU game at the FargoDome in 2010, with the game getting some national media attention. The whole NDSU student section and much of the rest of the FargoDome start a "Sioux Suck ***" cheer, much like has happened in the Metrodome, FargoDome, BSA even without UND playing NDSU.

The less-than-flattering media attention will be focused on NDSU, not UND, and that is the real fear of Chapman, Taylor, the Forum, et. al. Chapman and Taylor are doing what they can, with the Summit League and Douple etc, to not play UND because of the shame NDSU's own fans will bring upon themselves.

You have an excellent point... we all know all of UND's problems are NDSU's/Chapman's/The Forum's fault... maybe we can add Douple to that list too

  15. If the legislature is getting involved in this because some how UND and NDSU playing together will help the state, then I am all for them getting involved. This is because the legislature is elected to do what is good for the state.

It would help the state if the game was played in Fargo every year... as 6500 more fans could watch the game live
