  1. I thought maybe they'd push the SEC games to CW since all the CBS affiliates in MT except for Glendive have CW on subchannel

Not that I know of, most of the time they show the last hr or so of SEC games after the Montana games are over. The MSU games are shown on the local ABC affiliate, but fortunately this year they started to put the regular ABC games on Fox when the MSU games are shown on ABC, hopefully they start to do that (on CW) with SEC games. I enjoy watching the good BSC games (UM-MSU, EWU-UM etc). However before this year it was frustating when ABC was supposed to show Texas-Oklahoma, and CBS was supposed to show Alabama-LSU, but I was stuck with Montana-Sac St, and MSU-Northern Colorado.

  2. as for the game...this might get ugly quick. When Montana gets rolling it is very hard to stop them

Living in Montana, I am stuck with the griz games on TV every week (I cheer against them mostly out of spite as the CBS affiliate shows 'griz games instead of SEC games which I would prefer to watch). Montana doesn't blow many teams out early, most games are competitive until the 4th quarter when Montana invariably makes a big play (INT, kick return, 3 and long conversion) which seals the game. Last year when Montana went 14-1 they still only beat 1-10 Idaho St by 2. I expect a close game, with Montana making a couple of plays in the 4th Q to win by 1-2 TDs.

  3. UND has a chance to essentially end Montana's consecutive playoff appearance streak next weekend. (Montana could in theory be in a three-way tie for the autobid with a victory over MSU, but that would require EWU to lose to ISU). The only schools Montie has beat by more than three points this year are Western St, Idaho St, and UNC. I expect a close game- with Montie pulling it out in the end.

  4. Totally agree...was just visiting a buddy in Missoula 2 weeks ago. He's a huge Griz fan. He saw Poly beat the Griz. Said Poly was best team Griz played to-date.

Slightly off topic- but Montana at 5-2 has lost to the only two teams (both FCS) they have played which have winning records, and their five victories have come over teams with a combined record of 9-24 (one of which was DII), yet somehow they are ranked 7th. Their "best win" was probably a 28-25 home win over Sac St (3-3). (Maybe making the playoffs for some many consecutive years has something to do with it)

  5. Just remember that that close loss, which UND could have won on the last play, was to a team that thoroughly dismantled the Gophers last week. I hate comparative scoring, but that makes me think that UND would have just as good a shot to beat the Gophers as the Yotes did. I'm not saying that they would have, or it was not a huge win for USD, but I think using those two games as a barometer that this should be a close game.

Comparative scores are a horrible indicator.... especially when teams are playing "up" or "down".

Due to the amount of FBS/DII/NAIA/DIII/FCS non-scholly type matchups it takes FCS 6 or 7 games (IMHO) before you can get a read on things

By playing the comparative score game SDSU would be better than Idaho.... which could be bad news for UND.

  6. 24 Illinois St.

    14 SDSU

    final

Tough start for the Jacks, who I believe have Nebraska coming up. Yikes.

    12 Cal Poly

    21 Texas St.

    final

This is year is the first time the Jack's have had any pressure to start a season... and they didn't respond well when being up on Montana either

    EWU's field is disgusting BTW

  7. Until 'su gets its own medical and law schools, it will not be a "flagship" as far as other state universities are structured. Moreover, the fact "flagship" is singular, not plural, means there can only be one "flagship".

And as for the proposal to "merge" 'su and UND, that's probably more asinine than dumping the Sioux name/logo.

    Berkeley has no Med School

  8. They seem to do quite well with attendance at Montana with an outdoor stadium. Pulling together data from a couple of different websites, it seems that the average highs and lows for Grand Forks and Missoula are almost the same in October. In November GF is about 6 degree colder for both the highs and the lows.. I don't know how much wind they get in Missoula, which would make a difference.

Along with being less windy, Missoula also gets a lot more sunshine than does GF in the fall.

  9. This will drive certain NDSU fans bonkers:

UND included within 10 FCS programs that should jump to FBS

Most of these suggestions are not at all feasible: financially, or due to conference invite issues, from a media perspective, or from a stadium perspective. Appy State is probably most ready (Montana needs more sports added), and UMass and Delaware really should play up soon. UND would really have to redo Memorial Stadium to 20,000+ seats - moving the track out of there - and maybe play later November games and Thursday night TV games in the Alerus. If the new indoor practice facility is really getting built, Memorial Stadium's location does become more game friendly (pre-game parties/half-time fan warmup ), FBS does become more feasible 10 years down the road.

That is an excellent blog article. According to the blog UND won an FCS title in 2001 and was an FCS runner-up in 2003. I did not know that, please accept my belated congratulations ;)

  10. Norman's Steakhouse is still open in Fargo (last time I checked anyways) so...

If they can manage to keep their doors open, then Whiteys has a shot.

    See FargoDome/Alerus

  11. First NDSU Athletics throws a forty year working agreement with WDAY-AM/ForumComm under the bus by openly negotiating with a competitor (KFGO) for a new radio/media deal (after it was pretty clear the KFGO bid wasn't as good).

Now NDSU continues the pattern of negotiating with a competitor (Sanford MeritCare) while still under contract (with Innovis).

    http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/27...group/homepage/

Mr. Taylor sure does seem to have some interesting business practices regarding bids and contracts.

If you have a contract with NDSU Athletics, well, ... good for you, ... for now.

    Sanford Arena

  12. Not sure its fair to say he "underperformed" at ISU. Wesley Johnson leaving was a bad deal. Not being able to keep Harrison Barnes in town was another bad deal. Those 2 guys would have made a huge difference in the program.

I think Mac found out that mid-major and high major bball is really 2 different worlds. I'm glad he got to leave before they threw him out. He'll win at Creighton and they'll like him in Omaha. Rumor is 10 years at $900,000/year. I think he'll be ok. :( Still double the money Ben is getting at Northern Iowa. That seems a little strange.

It is easier to win at high-end mid-majors than at low-end BCS schools

  13. Earlier this week I had heard that soccer, volleyball and men's basketball were in the works and the agreements were almost complete for next year, but contracts were not signed. Women's basketball won't start up again for at least another year. Taylor must feel like he is losing a little bit of control since he is going with the "It's not official" stance rather than "We hope to be able to announce something soon" position.

Rumor is Faison is holding out for 4 games per sport per year :silly:

Also, generally the home team gives the official announcement of the games.

  14. No but hockey sure pays it's share of bills.

From the Sioux Hockey 2010-2011 thread page 4:

I can't find the numbers I am looking for, but according to figures reported to the US Dept of Education for the '08-09 school year (latest available) compare UND with OSU:

    CODE

Men's Hockey / Total Revenue / Total Expense /Net "profit"

    UND / $3,596,366 / $2,075,293 / $1,521,073

    OSU / $1,051,923 /$2,363,322 / <$1,311,399>

Do they have women's hockey #'s?

  15. The Summitt isn't anything special for athletics. Its a bunch of DI wannabe's that need to limit costs/overhead so they can say they're DI.

and the Great West is the Summit's afterbirth

  16. It would be non-conference, so no way will there be two games in a season. As Bincity stated, I would hope there would be a return trip to GF and alternate every other season after that. I can't think of one instance throughout the country where two b-ball games are scheduled in one season with traditional non-conference rivals.

    Summit decision won
  17. Agree that Hoeven was in bed with Chapman. Chapman could sweet-talk anyone, and politicians are especially vulnerable to that kind of BS. The true Chapman was revealed with the housing episode: Marcil and Hoeven know they were bamboozled and will be especially careful to avoid that kind of association in the future. NDSU doesn't have any goodwill left in the state, so don't expect any kind of favoritism to play out in their direction. UND was hurt in that Kupchella, while honest and straightforward, was just too socially awkward for politicians to want associate with him or do any favors. Kelly seems to have a little more charisma, although not a good speaking voice.

    So is everything Chapman's fault?

  18. I find it interesting that the SBoHE approved the project last week and I have yet to see it appear in the GFH. I'm thinking that there is a larger story in the works than mere approval of the project and that the GFH is waiting to present a full story on the project. Well, I'm hoping anyway. :silly:

Wasn't an indoor practice facility (perhaps a different design/cost) for UND already approved by the SBoHE around the same time the NDSU's BSA renovation was approved?

  19. I'm proposing a truce on all Sioux-Bison smack talk for the remainder of the season. At this point it's a lot like arguing with your buddy about who brought home the prettier fat chick the night before. No matter who wins in a way you both lost big time.

I wonder if Bohl will take a lease on Chapman's former "bonus room" in lieu of a buyout :silly:
