  1. Back off the ledge - my opinion:

While you know the team doesn't have the psyche or tradition to mail it in if you are going to stumble now is the time.

This is a tournament for the fans - sucks to have to sit through two losses but in the big picture it has no impact on the future.

The biggest mistake made in any type of sports is basing future results on past performance - it's what seperates the winners from the losers in weekly football pools as well.

No injuries, as far as I've heard is the biggest win from this weekend.

It's all business now - as past history has shown seeding means nothing in this tournament.

that we know of yet...i can guarantee if/when this teams flames out again under hak that hadju already has the nicked up/broken/ bruised report (excuses that are unique to und and no other team has to deal with) that comes out 24 hours after finishing the year with another loss

  2. what was nau's coach mad about...the griz guy laying on the court right in front of him guy at midcourt or the time on the clock (.4)... any lip readers out what he said to the griz head coach during the hand shake????

    good stuff

  3. Doubt it.  They could drop football and still have a seat at the table.   Thy aren't playing Big Sky football today, and still have been welcomed.   There is already 13, what's the difference.

i wouldn't say they were welcomed...more like accepted...with certain terms and conditions that may or may not come true. stay tuned bisons fans.

  4. There is very little to draw those schools to play at places like UND or NDSU or any other Summit, Big Sky level school.  They make more money going to play at places like Minnesota, Kansas or any Big 5 level schools than UND could afford to pay.  Most also make more money playing low level teams at home where they don't have to pay nearly as much for a guarantee.  Plus they don't want to give lower level teams a home field advantage.  It is a lose-lose proposition for most of them.  They are ranked much higher so they are expected to win.  If they win, they were supposed to.  If they lose, they embarrass themselves.  If you look at schedules around the country, those games are very rare.

i totally agree with you but i think some decent sounding bball schools wouldn't mind traveling up from minny if we threw a few dollars at em for an easy bus trip...rea is a very unique facility for revenue (beer and lots of it)...somehow one of the sodak schools got unlv to come up here so its doable...

i just checked and the pentagon is also getting wichita and memphis to come up??

and st johns and wisconsin too???

and it only sits 3200 people??

  5. My question is why do more fans show up for a game at the Ralph rather than the Betty? Doesn't really make sense to me other than the games at the Ralph seem to usually be advertised a lot more.

    two words...video.boards.

  6. Piping would have to be installed. The rows of retractable seats would have to be removed, possibly the restrooms too.

any way they could move womens hockey to the betty and dig down in the olympic rink and make that bball with nice below ground lockers (connected to the underground level of the ralph) and a concourse level with the main concourse of the ralph?? probably kind of expensive?

  7. Big time schools don't travel to mid major or lower mid majors except in very special cases like when Kansas came to Grand Forks.  Even a 3 for 1 isn't going to get one of those schools to Grand Forks.  They either go to top level conference schools, tournaments, or host lower level schools and make big money on the home games.  It's a nice dream, but very, very unlikely.

unlv played at usd or sdu last year???

use some connections...dale brown....lute olson...these have a lot of pull at those schools to make a one game thing happen...not saying it likely but things can happen if you make them happen...plus most mid majors don't have a 12,000 seat arena with fifty boxes that could be filled if the game is big enough...most play in arena not much bigger than the betty....

  8. i like the talk of moving bigger games to the rea side but really what is a big game??? sdsu, ndac, usd?? come on let's live a little...if we have a facility that can sit 12,000 for bball lets really talk about a school that is a bball school then...lets' get some big time teams to come here...Gonzaga, Butler, Creighton, LSU, DePaul, Cincinnati....a friday night game without hockey in town on a friday or saturday night would draw enough to cover the costs of paying them to come here...heck do a 3-1 if you have to get someone like them to come here...

even if you do it once a year...call it the "phil jackson classic at ralph engelstad arena"....once a year...one big time school even bigger than the ones above...find a school that is already playing at u of m one night and make it worth their time to drive the five hours up to play a game the next night??

  9. Its been looked into and Faison etc has made a conscious decision to not have Bb in the Ralph. An NDSU game drew 7000 on a Tuesday and over 10,000 on a Saturday. Maybe the REA board objects or maybe the hockey coaches get pissed because they can't practice there. The women hockey team hasn't played a game in the Olympic rink for years: why is that?

When the IPF is complete, the old Hyslop will no longer have a purpose. Make it into a bowl with decent seats and video screens. Could easily seat 6000. Turn the Betty into a women's hockey arena then. Weekends the Ralph doesn't get used for MHockey can be used for concerts or big MBB games.

The Ralph should be put to use every weekend of the winter. It is, but women's hockey does not draw fans, so its a wasted asset for half the time. Put events there that do. The Sprint Center in KC makes a lot of money, but doesn't even have a pro team, as its busy all the time.

are there pipes in the concrete at the betty?

  10. If there were two players to bet on, I would take those two, with Hooker close behind.  Those guys come from winning programs and can flat out "ball:"

(may not be proper term here, but they can)

jones won't have excuses next year with hooker, crandell, seales, shields, shanks, berenstine, and guys like tyler, de reoun, and cashman off the bench....the talent will be there next year....

  11. Assuming that the two years left on Jones' contract buy him another year, is there much question that his future at UND is pretty much dependent upon Crandall and Seales being difference-makers immediately? And by difference-makers, I mean being clearly better than Tyler and DeRouen were this year. I just don't see much hope that the other returnees' improvement is going to be enough for UND to rise all that much in the standings.

he will be back next year and just like huff, anderson, webb, and brekke saved him a few years back his future will be dependent on the skinny legs of crandell and seales...

  12. But they had men's/ women's doubleheaders and the Hyslop had great crowds, of course hockey was in a championship drought through most of the early to mid 90's when men's basketball was really good. I think hockey is just an excuse. It's not like it's far to walk to get to either place.

bball at six...mens hockey on friday/ sat at 8...would give people coming from out of town a little more travel time and time to go out to eat....might see a little more people at bball bc they could go to the one game and walk over and take in some hockey too...

  13. I badly want video boards but I can't imagine it having much of an affect on attendance.

i do think it would bring out a few more students...students love being on the video boards at rea...old people no...but students like that stuff

  14. if/when the bsc expands/contracts i wonder if they experiment with moving their games to friday night saturday night....might help instead of weird thursday night and sat afternoons that they do now.

    und/ndac-1hr

    ewu/idaho-1.5 hrs

um/msu-4 hours (drive to butte..spend the night get up drive two hours)

    sac st/ portland-fly 1.5 hours

    wsu/isu-couple hours

if bsc takes schools like seattle, denver, and or omaha...no real travel partners but could play any day of the week or fridays only....

kinda sioux volley stuff here but i still can't used to the thursday/sat stuff...too many friday/sat night games at hyslop in my blood i guess

  15. The fact that Shields didn't play in the second half is ridiculous. I don't even know if he played after he went on a little 6 point run. Stupid. Shanks has shown potential at times this year but he needs to get the mental aspect down. Gets too frustrated and shows terrible body language and takes his frustration out on stupid fouls.

only problem with shields in that stretch is yeah he scored six but he also gave up six....

  16. i don't think jones is going anywhere soon but if he was let go wouldn't be funny if the bball program did what the fball program did and bring in someone the past glory days....

like gfhockey would say it bring bak rev richie
