As reported in an earlier thread, Mathison and Stockdale are walk ons.
I knew Mathison was a walk-on but I was unsure about Stockdale...

It's pretty obvious that the Sioux need a few big guys to compete in the Big Sky....Problem is a lot of scholarships are being used up on the sophomore class. Does Coach Jones pull scholarships from Archer, Stockdale, or anyone else and try to get some guys with some size instead. Also, can't you find someone from the football team or something to be a practice player/reserve instead of Mathison? Just wondering how this would go down if Jones does this or does stick with them like he did with Monsebroten? I think Jones still knows that his leash is somewhat short or else he wouldn't have played two true freshman....so hopefully he keeps the ball rolling for 2012.

Nice game for the guys but....
why does mathison play ahead of doug archer. mike got a three second call, offensive foul, and a missed jumper in four minutes. doug had a blocked shot, offensive rebound, and a layup in a four minutes?
didn't like the "four corners" plays at the end of the game for the sioux...
webb was awesome in the second half
nice webcast...gonna be nice to have that we we join the big sky..

Idaho's not coming back to FCS anytime soon. They'll play in a heavily-watered-down WAC or even as an independent for a while if they have to rather than allow the perception that they "failed" in their attempt to move to FBS along with Boise State. Now, it was possible they would have joined the BSC for non-football sports IF the WAC had disintegrated, but not for football. There's a FBS-or-bust mentality there right now that would not let it happen. Maybe after many years of independent purgatory, but not now.
My take on Idaho is all or nothing. I don't like the everything except football. The Big Sky kind of holds all the chips when dealing with Idaho. The big brains at Idaho will soon see that the Big Sky is where they belong and shoul've never left.

Of all the nicknames around the "Fighting Norse" is the only nickname I like.

Currently the Summit is 24th in RPI, and the Big Sky is 26th, In Sagarin the Summit is 17th with the Big Sky 23rd.
The conferences have had pretty similar ratings over the last few years, however the Summit is ditching it worst two teams and adding USD, while the Big Sky is adding what will be two of its worst teams.
The "new Summit" (minus Cent, SUU, +USD) would currently be ranked 16th in RPI, the "new Big Sky" (+ SUU, UND) would currently be ranked 27th in RPI.
Playing the conference tourney in Sioux Falls every year is also nice.
Hansel, I don't know about "two of the worst" team joinging the BSC, remember that UND already has a win against Sac State. Also, having post-season tournaments on campus of the regular season champion is better than playing in Sioux Falls in front of a three-quarters empty arena.

Goon, the colors will always be green, black, white, and pink....those will never change. Just take everything that had Sioux on it and replace it with Norse.

My vote is for Fighting Norse. Instead of a side profile of a Sioux warrior use the side profile of a Viking warrior. Sioux and Norse are both one syllable long. Scott Hennen, Jr can still bark out his "here comes your "FIGHTING NORSSSSSSSSE!" Most of all the other choices suck and too pc. In two year I hope if I have to change my screen names from Siouxfan97, I hope I have to change it to Norsefan97 instead of Sodbuster97, Roughnecks97, Pilots97, Green Sox97, or all the other dumb ass names out there.

I like Trojans keeping with the Warrior theme...
Goon, your blog post is what started me on the Norse name and theme. Warriors is too generic. Go from Fighting Sioux to Fighting Norse. Go from a side shot of a Sioux warrior to a side shot of a Viking warrior. 99% of all these "ideas" on here suck. Use your oline powers Goon for the Fighting Norse (and keep up the blogging on Goons world)...

Does anyone really know what Idaho is planning? You would think they would want to be proactive but they seem to just be sitting there thinking how great they are and that a MWC invite is gonna come their way.

Omaha. Travel partner by plane. The DI moratorium on move-ups will be over later in the year, but any DII school would need a conference invite to move up.
Unless NDSU is reconsidering, which I highly doubt.
I don't think its any suprise that BSC wants NDSU, Idaho, and SJSU....

few things....every minute and every shot that Schuler puts up should be replaced by Haugen....Haugen is the best pure shooter on the team and he can knock down some shots....How Schuler jumped ahead of him in the lineup this year is beyond me.

Funny how Idaho "fans" think they are the so much better than all the other schools west of the Mississippi!!! You would think that Notre Dame football and Idaho football are one in the same! Some "fans" over there say they would rather drop football entirely and focus on their other sports than to "drop down" to the Big Sky Conference and play in beautiful settings like in Ogen, Missoula, Bozeman, or Greeley? Fans of Idaho and San Jose State better realize that the Big Sky Conference is the best and probably only option left when the WAC dies a slow death in the next few years.....

"Watched" this on the internet while at work and I can't wait to see how bad our qb's really were later tonight!! Only problem I have with Mussman was punting at the end of the game like that....are you "playing to win the game" or trying to not lose too badly? Come on go for it....ridiculous!!! Totally ridiculous. Fire Mussman? No. But keep making gutless calls like that and have fun being the new ball at Iowa State.

If Taylor has any brains in that thick head of his he calls Fullerton and asks "what will it take?" Taylor better act quick because with the WAC death a few years or days away the Big Sky with a committed Montana is gonna be the place to be for football in the west.
NDSU, Idaho, Utah State, and San Jose State better get Fullerton on speed dial.
Congrats on Montana choosing FCS instead of trying to be the next Idaho where they think they are better than everyone else for winning the eharmony.com bowl or whatever bowl they won.
I agree that Faison and Kelly would help NDSU get into the BSC because we have something that NDSU didn't seem to have with Chapman as president: class.

Great news about Montana!!!
Time for NDSU to find out their buyout of the crappy MVFC/Summit and start negotiatng with the Big Sky Conference ( I hate NDSU with a passion and could care less about SoDak schools but a travel partner in the new expaned BSC would be nice). The WAC as we know it is dead in three or four years (or less at this rate with TCU).
