Side note- I'm 41. Nothing compares to when the Gophers are in town. I love to win, but with the Gophers I HATE to lose.

Rivalries require time. They require history and tradition. Pain and Joy of a collective fan base. Those of us over 30 have vivid memories of battling the Gophers on the way to championships- the road to which ran through GF or Mariucci many times. I can see kids under 20 not having that same collective memory and thus not appreciating what made the rivalry. It wasn't the fights, the fights were the by-product. It was the games for titles and to keep seasons alive, where both teams were great. The rivalry was electric, especially in the 80's and the 2000's. Gophers were a dynasty in the 70's and the Gino era led to super competitive games, in the 80's, UND won 3 titles, but the Gophers had amazing records and just couldn't finish. In the 2000's both teams were awesome and some of those games, especially at the Final Five were legendary. Loaded with future NHLers.

I miss Sweeney so badly!!! i remember that scrum. You only get a piece of it on this clip, but I remember Frattin had a Gopher in each hand and was jerking them both around like rag dolls.

Right. I'm a 41 year old 230 pound dad, and I can do 3-5 depending on the day.

Totally cool for fans to do it. Uncool for Jumbotron or for the team or University or REA to do it.

Cole Smith needs to introduce himself formally to young Mittlestadt

You are old I'm 41 and I had to look up what movie you're referencing...the kids these days know Cheech and Chong from Spy Kids or Nash Bridges

I really like Bowen too. I think what I like best is that he just keeps his game simple and uses great legs and a motor that won't quit. We will get turnover and pressure goals just from him playing that style.

Horrific officiating. Totally agree that the officials have lost control. Now its just stupid.

made a powerplay post in the Saturday gameday thread Regarding impactful freshies...we've been spoiled: Parise, Toews, Oshie, Stafford, Zajac, Boeser...that's a lot to expect...those 6 are among the 300 best players in the world Toews is one of the 100 greatest players of ALL-TIME...just think about that

On a positive note our zone entry seems improved over years past. I've said it before, the powerplay should be easy! All of hockey offensive breaks down to creating an odd-man. Players should see possible 2-1's everywhere. On the PP, you will always have a legit 2-1 somewhere, by simple numbers. You force that 2-1 on a defender down low and when he bites, his partner has to come across, which should always leave the weakside winger or a sleeper defenseman with a clean look at the net, depending on what that weakside defender forward does in terms of coverage. Typically he will stay stay with the d, but start to drift with the collapse. I think we skate to find the passing lane too much and don't skate to force the odd-man which by nature will create a passing lane.

I think Adams is an under the radar guy that is going to have a great career. I agree with Rhett, Pogo and Mismash...that is a nasty line. I like Jones between Adams and Gersich...thats our speed line After that we have parts, but I'm not sure how to assemble them. Bowen and Hoff need to play in my opinion.

Toews has been very displeased with this.

University of North Dakota Hockey 2017-18 Season
yzerman19 replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
He scored 4 points and was a -1 in 20 career games. He was a body. While I appreciated him- certainly at the end of last year; at the same time, you are talking about a high scoring player coming out of Pens Elite AAA who couldn't get on with a USHL team...that's a bit odd to begin with. This announcement feels like a frustrated kid bailing. I will withhold further commentary until more is known about the circumstances. I will just say thanks for your service and best of luck. -

The announcement is also poorly timed...on a game day? I sure hope he didn't storm off today and quit...if he did, then the leadership in the room is really going to need to step up -
Only way Simo is out is if he's dinged up
