Wow! I hope their parents are proud. I have to chill out when I watch stuff like that. It makes me wnat to beat on those little punks. Unfortunately the end result would be me getting sued. I do really want to set the world right. Much like Blake Wheeler, these Gopher fans would do well to get their asses kicked good and hard.

Spin away. One team is fighting for a number one seed in the regionals, the other is fighting for air. Sorry Gopher faithful, but it ain't your year, and complaining about the Sioux being mean (jeez its like were Hanibal going after Rome...The scourge of Minneapolis) isn't going to make it your year. Minnesota is really down on talent this year, and isn't able to run and gun. What do you do? We had a few bad years in the early 90's too. The Pansies on Ice will be the Pride on Ice again one day. Just not this day. There honestly isn't one Gopher that i would trade a Sioux player for.

Let's not forget that our best powerplay shooter was in the locker room on Saturday night. Forwards need to be more aggressive and not playing zone offense. Make one guy miss and its 2 on 1 every time on the powerplay. Should be give and go or shot on net right then and there.

releaving onesself inappropriately vs. runnign a dog murdering and racketeering organization...not even close. The elevator was stuck. If he had pissed himself he wouldn't even have been charged. I reiterate that while harsh, the suspension is appropriate and keeps the league out of our kitchen on the matter.

Think about this, Sioux have no fights vs Denver, CC, New Hampshire, BC, MSU, Northeastern, UMD, Michigan Tech, and Alaska Anchorage. Sioux have fights vs Wisconsin, Minnesota and Mankato. Now, with all due respect to Northeastern, UMD, Tech and AA, The other "fightless" teams are all highly skilled NCAA tournament-bound teams (UMD and Northeastern also have a legitimate shot). Wisconsin, Minnesota and Mankato are all bubble teams who have bounced in and out of NCAA consideration. So, we get into fights with the bubble teams, but we don't fight with the legitimate contenders...hmmmm...sounds like we ar ethe instigators doesn't it. MN and Wisconsin are very frustrated teams trying to win any way they can. This is unusual for both programs. This year, they are having to clutch and grab and try to fight to win dirty (again this is atypical of the programs). Sioux respond with whatever kind of hockey you throw at them. You want to run and gun, we can do that. You want to play cheap, we'll throw down.

Punishment is appropriate for Hak. We have to show that we are strict. The biggest danger is losing credibility with the officials. There is plenty of politicing that goes on, and we are going to have trouble getting the benefit of the doubt now. Maybe we never did get the benefit of the doubt before either. As for Wooger, I think that was a little misleading too. I think the guy made a lapse in judgement. A player needed $500, yes there are rules, but think about if someone you were really close with needed $500 in order to graduate school, and said he'd pay you back right away. I'd float the kid 5 Bennies too. Hakstol will feel shame, he will miss a key series, and he might've added a black mark to our sterling reputation. Regardless, I am happy to have a coach who isn't a robot and I'm sure his players are too. It would've been better to throw somehting and get a bench minor however.

It was old school WCHA at the John. The Goofer faithful will complain about how mean we are and dirty and...CANADIAN. They will never stop complaining. They will be complaining in their overpriced suburban homes in April watching the Sioux on TV. Re-watching all the video in slow motion here is my attempt at an unbiased opinion. Second period scrum: Peltier runs Trupp from behind on the sideboards. This shot was much more malicious than the CFB called on Duncan to start the game. Peltier then proceeds to work over Trupp while Trupp is on his back. Several Sioux skate to Trupp's aid, shortly followed by several Gophers. Malone tries to get Peltier to fight. Malone is thrown into the box by the AR. Fight disperses. Calls: Malone double minor for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct (for being 3rd man in and instigating), Peltier minor for roughing. Result: Gopher powerplay for 2 minutes with the Sioux bench shortened by three: Duncan, Malone and Radke. Minnesota without Peltier for two. What Calls should've been made: Sioux: Malone 5 minutes on a roughing major and 10 minute misconduct for 3rd man in. Gophers: Peltier 5 and a game for CFB, 2 minutes for roughing. Result would've been a 2 minute Sioux powerplay, Very short Sioux bench equal short benches for the third period.

Agree with Malone doing what he had to do to protect a teammate who not only is the lightest guy on the team, but also was NEVER in a position to defend himself. How is Lucia going after Zajac any different? It is worse. Darcy did not pile on Anderson and start feeding him after knocking him down from behind. Someone made a comment about Darcy being like McCracken keeping his stick...I would guess in the BC league you need to keep that stick until you know your opponent isn't planning on using his. In a straight up fist fight, I'll take a veteran of the Canadian junior ranks over a kid from Wayzata any day. The refusal to back it up sans helmet and golves is a Gopher trademark. While I am disappointed in Big Joe for pulling a guy out of the handshake line, it is pretty clear that Joe was hoping for them to drop the gloves. I almost think they should've let Joe and Wheeler go at it. Get it done and over. Joe's problem is with Wheeler. It has to be settled. Only way to settle it is without helmets and gloves on the ice. Bickel, well, Stu had his opportunities to challenge someone to go without the gloves. I haven't seen him do so. Instead he talks sh*t from behind his coach. As to not winning by a wide margin, thereby indicating the parity of these two teams, there was no Duncan. Sioux survived tremendous adversity in the game. We had a short bench the entire game, and a ridiculously short bench with Malone in the box for 10. The result is tired legs and no line cohesion. Especially on the top powerplay unit. These teams hate each other. They have to fight in order to move on.

Bad move by Hak, but he is doing all he can in retrospect. AD should probably suspend him for one game vs DU. I am comfortable with Eades stepping in for the one game. I am sure Dave really feels like a jack a$$. He should've shown more discipline. However, I agree that it is far better to be the bad boys than the candy a$$es. This could be the rallying point of the whole season. We back our teammates, we are not afraid to throw down, and our coach is with us all the way. We can outskill you one minute, and beat you up the next. That's Sioux hockey. Even Wooger called it old time hockey, and seemed to respect the way the Sioux stand up for themselves and each other. Woog's comments throughout the scrums tempered Mansucko's homerness and showed him to be the hockey expert he is. What this incident by Dave does to me, however, is to think again about the Wisco incident. What actually was said might never be known. I can not turn a blind eye to Hak's mistake, but I am also not going to condemn him for getting fired up and pi$$ed off. He has apologized. One game suspension (without pay perhaps?) and we move on.

Does Bruce McClown attend every gopher game? I saw him at the John last night, my buddy saw him in Duluth when MN was up playig the Dogs. They showed him in Madison on TV. I am going to reiterate one of my points. Last night's total loss of control by the officials could've been taken care of if fighting were allowed in the game. THe guys fought anyway. I am a strong believer in letting the players police the game. Too many soccer moms and Princess Goldy fans who would come unglued if the likes of their precious players got hurt. Blakey "tough guy" Wheeler would have to oen up for his actions and words, and then when he got beat up, he'd hire Mike Cerisi to sue.

Lucia did slam Zajac, but only after Darcy had already had him down and was working on getting the helmet off. If you watch the immediate follow up to that, Zajac gets out from under Tony and proceeds to try and rack him up against the glass. Fortunately for tDon's daughter, the official was able to stop it at that point. A little shot in the back on a cross check happens in games like this...it isn't a chess match or the marching band, it is WCHA hockey. leg stuck out on the Osh, cross check to the back by Zajac, Lucia and Flynn go after Zajac, TJ makes it even by grabbing Flynn. Struggle ensues. Zajac has Lucia down and is working on his helmet. Lucia trurns it around and takes down Zajac wrestling style. Zajac tries to rack Luica against the glass with arm cocked. Meanwhile TJ heads for the locker room. The fight showed more life from the Gophs than we've seen all year. I still can't get over the amount of clutch and grab the Gophers do this year. It is as bad as playing Mankato or Alaska. Every single time that Oshie had the puck he was mugged. Positive is we had no puck luck and got 3 points. A lot of pucks that wouldn't stay flat and bad hops/bounces. We played without Duncs. We still got 3 points. Almost every decent Gopher chance came off a fighting Sioux mistake or bad hop. Repeating: Adam lost control of the game on the Trupp check from behind, where tough Gopher took it to Trupp while Trupp was in no position to defend himself. Malone went in, because the ref was too late. Should've been 5 and a game for the check from behind, and double minor for roughing on the Gophs. Malone got what he deserved. Blake Wheeler is going to have to learn to watch his mouth, especially if he ever gets a shot at the NHL. When the Capitals play the Coyotes, Wheeler is going to have to face Joe without a face mask, and with officials who won't step in.

Now I backed Sagard earlier in this post, but to call out DZ as a coward is just assinine. The cross check from the back was retaliatory and designed to instigate. it wasn't cowardly, as he was definitely prepared to back it up.

After Saturday night here is th elatest from what I see: Miami vs RIT UMD vs BC Michigan vs BSU Michigan State vs Mankato*(Northeastern) CC vs Providence*(Notre Dame) Denver vs Northeastern*(Mankato) NH vs Notre Dame*(Providence) UND vs Clarkson Notre Dame #14 and Providence #13 switched to avoid intraconference matchup Mankato #11 and Northeastern # 10 switched to avoid intraconference matchup Don't like having to deal with NH again with VR in the lineup, but what can you do.
-
Was at the game, just read through the full thread. Take it easy in Sagaard. He has always been a decent poster despite his rodent roots! I've sen it a million times, but it still kills me. MN has this way of instigating and then looking innocent. This is why fighting should be allowed in the game and why guys shouldn't wear full masks. If you're going to act and talk like a punk, then be prepared to settle it like a man. Now fighting is stupid, but if you're going to talk the talk, then you'd better walk the walk. Minny is the princess of the world, and they love to take a shot, do a facewash, and then run for help from the official. Stand and deliver. If you want t ogo, take off the helmet and gloves and do it like a man.
-
Guys have gone to jail for less than what the Gophs tried to do to the Osh tonight. Man, I wish Duncs hadn't gotten the boot so early. ALl those penalties, he would've been key
-
MSU keeps doing us favors! Nice sweep of DU. I might need to stop speaking so negatively of Jutting's goon squad!
-
EJ is in the NHL. I could add Bochenski too. Which Gophers are currently skating regular NHL shifts? Vanek, Ballard, Johnson, Leopold, Martin and Kessel jump to mind. Bottom line, both programs are elite. To speak otherwise is silly.
-
I have met great Gopher fans too. The kind who shake hands and say, "This one must be your year" after a loss. Only morons disrespect programs like these. I have, however ran into many an idiot. Especially at the Final 5. I think that tourney brings out the Gopher fan who isn't a hockey fan. I think Sioux hockey fans are mostly the kind who understand the game, could tell you how the PWR works and what RPI is (both the team and the stat). I think the Final Five is more of a social event for Twin Cities people who really don't know the game. I have to caveat that i do know plenty of good gopher fans who are also good hockey fans and understand this stuff. I think in a metro of 3 million people, the odds just favor meeting the rubes. Hey 9 game unbeaten streak intact!!
-
Oshie was gassed, because every time he touched the puck, he was having to carry two or three Gophers. It must've felt like being Heidi Klum in a male prison the way they were all over him. Oshie showed how special he was tonight. He didn't score, but he was far and away the most skilled player at the John.
-
Agree that good teams find ways to get points. MN is in terrible shape on the national picture. I also think that we are a better team than we represent against them. I don't know why or what or how, but they always play us tough. Did get a little annoyed tonight at the John when some idiotic Gopher fan says to me in the bathroom something about the cost of having such an elite program that players only play one or two years. I looked at him and said, "I know what you mean." He goes, "Well, you didn't lose Erik Johnson, Phil Kessel and Kyle Okposo." Too which I replied, "No, unlike Okposo, our losses are skating regular shifts in the NHL." He says,"like who?" And I say, "Oh, I don't know, Jonathan Toews, Travis Zajac, Zach Parise, Matt Jones, Matt Greene, Drew Stafford." Next point: Is everyone forgetting that we played 64:53 without last year's Hobey Baker winner? Agreed it was anyone's game tonight. You'd be crazy to think it wouldn't have been different with Duncs out there.
-
Mazocko says: "you'd think he could do something more manly than tug a jersey" and Woog pipes in "well, I think he was trying to get him away from the crowd". Once again, Wooger at least has a clue where Frank has none. Yes, Frank, in that situation Joe Finley was hoping for the ref to bail him out of trouble and was going to be hoping to give Blakey a little facewash. Frank, you fing moron, Finley wanted to pull him away and kick his a$$ 30's style boxing. We are the Sioux, not Minnesota's Pussies on Ice We fight, we don't run. Wish it hadn't happened at the handshake, also wish the refs hadn't stopped it

I personally like having a few Gopher trolls over here. GIve the Rodents a little respect. They came to play. Yes, it might've been a different game if we'd had Duncs on the top pp unit, considerina ll the penalties. I live in Mpls, and have seen a few Gopher games on FSN. They are not a bad team. They are just not able to pull it all together. They are more of a clutch and grab team than I've seen in maroon and gold, but they play teams tough. You win some, you lose some. There is no reason to take it out on anybody's fan base. Fortunately for us, despite only being a slightly better team that MN, we are in a dramatically different position with regard to the national scene. Fighting on a web forum is almost as tough as going after a team's smallest player Go Sioux!
-
THe chaos on the handshake was bush league. This is the WCHA, not junior B in ALberta. Malone needs to cool his jets. You can't ever go third man in. Get the guys number and go after him next shift. That being said, I like sticking up for your teammates, you have to do that. That ruckus began because a Gopher decided to work over the smallest guy on the SIoux roster...really tough. Try that on Kaiper or FInley. Sioux picked up 3 points in Mariucci without Duncan for tonight's game. I call that a victory. If Hakstol flipped the bird, he has a lot of explaining to do. I blame the chaos at the end entirely on Don Adam. The game was out of control. Emotions were running high. He should've grabbed both captains and told them that next junk was getting a game, and then followed through. Class at the end with Lammy and a Gopher skater after the fight skating out to center and embracing. ANy post-game comments from Hak posted?

While we held our sticks a little too tightly to start the game last night and played tight, making too many silly mistakes, the shots were a bit misleading. If I remember correctly at the first intermission we had more scoring chances than shots. Lesson? HIT THE GD NET!

The VV no-goal was reviewd for the following reason: The play was blown dead when the official lost sight of the puck. Had the puck crossed the line completely off of TJ's stick, the goal would've counted. However, it was put in by Vandevelde after the whistle resulting in No Goal. Had it gone in off the momentum from Oshie, they would've reviewed to see if TJ mad contact with the puck below the crossbar (he did) thereby making it not a high stick and it would've been a goal.
