  1. SCSU TV homers are hilarious. Duncs' goal was a pure goal scorer's goal, they called it a seeing eye puck. Chorney missing the point pass on the pp was a missed opportunity. The aggressive forecheck still seems to make our d-men panic in our own end. We are not dominating, but we are defiitely outplaying the husky women. We need to not let up here. IF we score again, we are in good shape. They hooked the goalie!
  2. Are you questioning if the SIoux are worth $6?
  3. It really is a simple, kid's game, that is supposed to be fun. All the analysis and strategy goes right out the window at puck drop. Then it is time to be a 12 year old. To quote the great Patrick Swayze in his acclaimed role as Hamilton Mustang's center Derrick Sutton: "Now go out and win this f*ing game."
  4. I don't know what Miller has done to keep his spot. It also surprises me that Hak scratched Marto after his first career goal, although his play in our end could use a lot of improvement. I think it is time to come out and blow these guys away. Strong physical play, strong on the forecheck. SCSU made a number of mistakes on the offensive blue line, several missed opportunities due to offsides. They will not make those mistakes again. We need to be better every game, and every period, in all aspects of the game. Do the little things: move the feet, finish your checks, play the body. Wingers get down low on the breakout. Centers win face-offs. Defensemen do not give up the defensive blue line without making someone in a white jersey pay the price. On the attack don't try and be too pretty, achieve the offensive zone, cut in towards the net and get shots off. Go to the net hard with sticks on the ice, dig for rebounds. Checkers, play with grit and tenacity, wear the other team out. HAVE FUN! This game is supposed to be fun, go out on their rink and make a STATEMENT. That's my coach impression, but I never was more than a weak high school player. take it or leave it.
  5. Rather than insult the person whose insulted your daughter, a rationale person, such as myself, would simply call in some favors to force foreclosure upon their home, frame them for being a child pornographer, tow their car (moveable fire hydrants work great for this) maybe get them fired from their job (slip some cocaine into their food the day of a drug test) That's the rationale Sioux fan response to insults hurled at our children
  6. I used to want Genoway at forward, but after last night, I saw that he really is sound back at D. The chippiness of last night's game demands the presence of Radke. If need be he can go out and throw the fists and if we lose him for next friday, its not that big a deal
  7. I want to shake things up big time line wise. This is back to the idea of one guy to dig in the corners, one guy to playmake, and one guy to finish Vande with Duncs and Frattin scoring 1 Kaip with Oshie and Watkins scoring 2 Zajac with Martens and Radke checking Trupp with Malone and Kozek scoring 3 Chorney and Genoway Finley and Bina Jones and Marto
  8. My use of the term "word on the street" is designed to protect the identity of my sources, which are very good. Bottom line truth: After bar at TJ's apt, elevator gets stuck, urination happens, people are freed, TJ gets cited, Hak finds out from a source other than TJ first. End of story
  9. You're right that a dive or two did not decide the game. I am touching on the deeper issue that this team needs to work on its mental toughness. Mental toughness and composure go hand in hand, add confidence and talent to that mix and you play like a champion. We showed none of those attributes tonight. As for goalies, yeah I've heard it since peewees too, I can't say if true or not. I am more likely to understand the inner thoughts and feelings of a woman than I am a goaltender Momentum also killed us tonight. The crowd was out of the game after that goal in the third. As soon as SCSU started scoring, the crowd got into it, and the floodgates opened. In those situations, we need an on ice leader to calm things down and get guys going again. I think we press too hard when we feel the moe shifting.
  10. Word on the street is the punishment is due to "lack of communication" not for the actual elevator incident
  11. From a hockey fundamental's perspective when you have the advantage in the defensive zone in an odd-man situation you play the body, when you are disadvantage you play to cut off the pass. To Chorney's credit, I do believe that he was at the end of a long shift and probably out of gas. However, he needed to put Mr Lasch on his arse. other positives: Genoway played sound fundamental D. I thought the Martens, Zajac and Radke line did their job well. Solid performances from Watkins and Kozek. Best game of the year for CHorney IMO. big negatives: Phil played his worst game of the year... SCSU does a good job at forcing the play outside. We needed to stop the attempts at cycling and going to the outside, and simply cutting in and letting shots go. Going wide and then working three guys deep is not going to score goals.
  12. Defensive breakdowns in the third period are unacceptable, especially when you're protecting a lead. We held SCSU to 0 shots on goal in the second period, and a grand total of 18. We should never lose a game where we hold the opponent to under 20 shots. The limited shots for SCSU is the only positive to take from this game. Giving up a second consecutive third period 2-goal lead is absolutely unacceptable. Are Hak's post game comments available anwhere? I think that the chatter and diving of SCSU got into the guys' heads a bit. We can not allow ourselves to be rattled like that. Phil might have gotten cold back there through limited work. Most goalies will tell you that it is harder to play well when you aren't busy. The team needs to fire up, and we need to continue attacking, not fall back into a defensive shell when we are protecting a lead. Power play wows continue to hurt us. Officiating was pretty poor, with ticky tack penalties and a clear dive by Mr Roe giving a 4-2 edge in the man-advantage. The 5th penalty on the Sioux was with 2 seconds left, so I don't even count that. SCSU is a good team, but we dominated them. Losing games you should win and play well enough to win is very disconcerting. It appears that this team gets rattled pretty easily, time for Taylor Chorney to show why he wore the C for Team USA at the WJC a few years ago. Calm it down, play composed. The sky is not falling, but we need to get our act together.
  13. I'd like to see: VV centering Frattin and Duncan Kaip centering Watkins and Malone Zajac centering Radke and Martens Trupp centering Kozek and Genoway
  14. Hak has strict rules regarding chastity
  15. A leader doesn't put his team in that situation?? What situation?? Any situation that could eventually lead to a bad situation?? No sex, 'cause maybe your girlfriend will get pregnant and you'll hurt the team. No driving, because you might get into an accident and hurt yourself or someone else and then hurt the team. No shooting fireworks on the 4th of july, you could blow off your hand and hurt the team. When the details of this situation come to light, everyone who is doubting TJ's character and saying he did something terrible and didn't think of his team, etc etc is going to look really foolish.
  16. Putting on the jersey makes you more of a representative, blah, blah, blah. I heard the same things in high school from my coaches. It definitely might place you more in the public eye, but it shouldn't mean that you're held to a different standard. Do you honestly believe that these guys should do nothinthing but go to class, the gym, and the rink, and then just sit at home and watch game films or concentrate on self actualization? I don't want robots, I want kids and players. Some of what makes TJ Oshie great comes from the fire he brings to the ice. He is a fan favorite because of that energy. Even though Toews was probably the most gifted player on the team last year, and Duncan scored the most goals, TJ is the one that everyone loves. His youthful exhuberance for life and for the game shows every shift, it makes him better. In the grand scheme of life, and the hierarchy of mistakes a person makes, getting charged with disorderly conduct at 2:30 in the morning while in college is at the very bottom, breaking curfew garnering a suspension and missing a game for being dumb is maybe a hair above that. Learning from a previous arrest? He was cited for being at a bar while under 21...now that he is over 21 the lesson no longer applies, and yes, he apparently did learn his lesson from last year, because I can guarantee that he had some fun (like any other college kid) between the time of his citation and his 21st birthday, and we didn't see his name in the paper. People this is not murder, arson or rape. This isn't even a DUI. I know a guy who got charged with a felony for driving a skidsteer off a construction site while drunk in college. He is a good person and a top character person. I would trust him with my children. My point being a minor run in with the law without intent to do harm is a stupid, childish lapse in judgement, but not a defining moment of someone's life or what they stand for. I stand behind TJ, no matter the outcome. Next point: Environment off the ice is an important tool in recruiting top end players. Legal run-ins due to overzealous police work has now hit several of our top players over the last few years. How the community, university and fans respond is important to keeping the recruiting efforts up. I do not envy the coaches' positions in all of this.
  17. That sort of thing only happens in Denver...remember Happy Glen Anderson
  18. Hak HAS to suspend a player for getting in trouble with the law. HAS TO. If it were a serious issue, he would be suspended indefinitely. I do not condemn people like Sikatoka, you are entitled to your opinion and your posts have taste and class. I just disagree with you on the severity of something like this. I do hold players to a high standard, but not higher than a standard to which I would hold myself. There are many examples of arrests that are silly. How many statutory charges have been filed against 18 year old with 17 year olds? LOTS. What if at a recruiting function a 17 year old player has a beer and a 21 year old player gets charged with contributing? Sure its legit, but is it really a crime? Does it show bad character and letting down "your father, your maker, and your coach"? I think not. TJ is a fine young man. He is a decent person off the ice as well. He takes his representation of native americans seriously. He loves the Fighting Sioux program and tradition. I support Hak's suspension, as a coach must do that sort of thing, but you do not need to add insult to injury by not believing that it is a stupid incident without malice and without intent. It isn't a whole lot different than the Blarney stone incident with the Goofs. I supported those players then too. God forbid a young person be a young person. If you can't have some fun and let loose at 21, when should you? When can you? The game is fun, being 21 is fun. It is not his job to be perfect on and off the ice. None of us could be. Hak is doing it right. Support the kid, but follow the rules to maintain team discipline. The Osh Reloaded will be back on Saturday.
  19. Being arrested does not necessarily show a lack of character. It sometimes shows great character (Nelson Mandela) or simply a lack of judgement. An arrest is not that big a deal, especially in GF where cops have nothing better to do than arrest underage college and highschoolers out having a good time. Some of the best people I know have been arrested.
  20. So blast him without the facts? Assume he is not living up to his end of the deal? You can not possibly be that judgmental. TJ has played his heart out every game he's ever laced them up at UND. He gives us a lot better than many people are giving him right now. Support the Osh!!
  21. Boys will be boys, and a college age kid having some drinks on the weekend...especially a saturday night after the game. Big deal. Most of us did plenty of it. It in no way reflects someone's character. I question the character of someone who blasts a really terrific young man and exceptional hockey player without knowing any of the facts or details surrounding a silly incident, except for the fact he got arrested. I've had limited interaction with him, but from where I'm sitting, TJ would give you the shirt off his back if you were cold and definitely wouldn't think that you "owed" him anything for it. Support the Osh!!
  22. The Oshie doesn't "owe" us a darn thing. We are lucky to have him on the team. I am proud that he is part of the Sioux Hockey Family. Cut the kid some slack and stick with your Osh!
  23. I have read the much larger thread full of speculation on TJ's behavior, his habits off the ice, even people searching his facebook page. I wanted to start this thread for standing by TJ. First of all, an arrest is not a conviction, and in this country you are innocent until proven guilty. Second of all, I'm sure he feels dumb about this whole thing, and from what I know about him, what hurts him the most is probably the suspension and the feeling that he is letting down his teammates, we fans, and especially kids. Do not berate this outstanding young man. TJ, you have my support 100%. We believe in you as a leader on the ice as a scorer and off the ice as a person . Thank you, TJ. Good Luck and God Bless.
  24. One of those gut checks I guess. Probably had to come to grips with a lot of things. Pro hopes and dreams crashing down, etc...
  25. I'm in Mpls, so I've had a chance to see SCSU a couple times on 45. I saw one of the games vs CC, and it was the game where Roe was hurt. The announcers made it sound like those 3 are on the same line...think Parise, Bochenski and Murray. Wow good Happy New Year to all Sioux Fans!
