  1. I still don't understand how UCD could beat SDSU 52-0. They're not that good.
  2. Hockey should be able to pay for swiming. Another problem with baseball/softball is the long road trips to the south and west to get games early on. Men's golf, however, is relatively inexpensive. The only reason to drop it would be for T9 considerations.
  3. As much as I didn't want it to happen, SDSU winning legitimizes this game as real rivalry and not just a NDSU dominated game. And yes, it was a bad call.
  4. 2 cents worht on SDSU and the sky relative to bball: the BSC is a better bball home for the Jacks than the MVC. Why? The BSC has great bball potential. They've also slowly moved up the RPI ranks in bball lately with EWU and WSU doing well. I think that SDSU could not only compete with current BSC teams on the hardwood, they could win the conference tournament. That, of course, grants them an invite to the big dance. And as you all probably remember last year, EWU gave OKSU a decent game and got some great national exposure. They have nothing more to gain by being in the MVC (they get the same dance invite if they win) but have more to lose since they'll be playing stiffer competition. Finally, the BSC, like I said, wants to increase its bball profile. That means that not only is SDSU going to get a serious look from them on both men's and women's bball status, so will UND and NDSU for their women's programs. Also I think that means that if USD wants to look at a move down the road, bball might be their ticket as well.
  5. I doubt you see much of the NHL period. The players/owners will lock out for an entire season. This is more than the edge that the NBA needed to fully dominate the market between football and baseball.
  6. I could easily see Sac State and Portland State going to a Big West/Great West set up. I don't think MTSU will move to IA unless the BSC itself moves to IA which probably won't happen unless IAA gets watered down or removed by NCAA changes. Which would allow NDSU/SDSU to get in maybe as earily as next season or the season after with UND and UNC getting in the following season or maybe even the same season.
  7. PCM, you're right. My theory didn't line up well with your stats.
  8. I think Portland State might also be on the chopping block as they've already had to cut Tennis which is required for BSC membership.
  9. Sic, wrong again. Simply having more ice means that you can send someone way over to the boards even though he might not ever get the puck. But you still have to send someone over to defend him.
  10. Sic, so teach your team not to make long passes. I mean, did I even have to say that? Isn't it obvious? Short, high percentage passes are the key to any sport in which passing is involved (football, bball, etc.). With that in mind, my point about spreading out the defense (much like the spread offense in football) still holds try and should thus allow for more shots on goal.
  11. Am I wrong? No. The reason the NHL doesn't use the wider sheet is...they are stupid. And look what happened to them.
  12. A wider ice sheet makes the defense spread out which makes it easier to score. Football, basketball, baseball, hockey, it doesn't matter. People want to see teams score and score often.
  13. Don't want to go off topic, but I definately believe college hockey should use the olympic width to try and and distance themselves from the pro game as much as possible and add enjoyment for the fans.
  14. If you move up to DI, you'll be seeing more banked ovals.
  15. I was always coming from the POV that UND would want to have a competition facility so they could host. And beyond that, why wouldn't you want an exact replica of what you're going to be running on in competition for practice? The football team doesn't practice out in the parking lot, do they? I've ran on a 200m track. If you have any talent at all, you're going to need that bank to maintain top speed around the bend.
  16. Fair enough. Again you UND fans have no idea what indoor track is. It's not: a time period during the winter when you train indoors (since it's too cold to be outdoors) for the upcoming spring track season. It is: a separate sport from outdoor track. To compete you must have a 200m oval exactly (not at least) and a 55m dash. Since 200m ovals have such a tight bend radius, it's definitely worthwhile to invest in a banked oval.
  17. I'm pretty sure you guys could get away with saying $42M for $42 million.
  18. If it was possible, why wasn't the AC originally built with 17500 then?
  19. MTSU holds 15000 according to their site. Someone on here claims that the Alerous can be upgraded to 17000 by adding seats to an endzone. Any truth to this? I don't understand why the BSC requires that you have certain sports. Perhaps (hopfully), the BSC will change their membership requirements when they expand.
  20. I didn't think that many people lived in Alaska. I guess I was wrong.
  21. Kupe, how big are the schools up there? Being all conference in a 400/class average conference is a lot different than being all conference in a 50/class average conference.
  22. If you have the exact sports that the BSC mandates, you're T9 complient. Any extra sports you have must cancel each other out on the men's and women's side. IE if you also have baseball, you have to have softball, hockey and hockey, swimming and swimming, etc.
  23. -Bottom line on UND hockey and the BSC: it won't hinder UND from joining. The BSC knows that hockey is just an independent, extra revenue stream. It's nothing that could hurt the BSC in any way and only makes UND have extra room in the budget for improvements to sports like football, bball, and track. - The SWAC conference, which is in I-AA and has some very good football programs plays a conference championship game and yet, does not have teams in the play off. I wish I fully understood why that is. However, according to the rule posted about it, it seems that it's completely permissible assuming every school agrees to it. Would they? Here is a free lesson in the way that commissioners think: conference championship game = more $$$$$$. I believe they'd do it in a heartbeat. - Count Cal Poly, Cal Davis, and Sac State out of the Big Sky. Both Cal Poly and Davis have the Big West for every sport other than football, including baseball and softball which is big time in California. Sac State has 3 options as far as I'm concerned: 1) Drop football and join the Big West, 2)join the Big West and join up with Poly and Davis in whatever they're doing for football (probably independent, remember that the southland conference which will only have 7 football members next season is in the west region and will need games in much the same way that NDSU has scheduled 2 teams from there), or 3) Try and get into the WAC. I foresee them choosing 1 or maybe 2 depending on football support and money. So many other CSU schools have dropped football that it would be easy to do so and join them in the Big West. - UND needs no facility improvements? You need an indoor track for one. For two, your football stadium, which is the main sport of the BSC, only seats 10000. You need an upgrade there. I have said that the 15000 requirement won't be enforced. Let me refine that statement. It won't be enforced for schools that are already DIA. For any teams or conferences trying to come up to DIA it will be enforced. With that in mind, I think the BSC may try and make a run at DIA with most of its members already having stadiums of 15000 or more. The only one who isn't is Idaho State @ 12000 and supposedly un-upgradeable. They might be in a tough spot.
  24. Just thinking out loud here. SCSU has really done a good job turning around their football team. Their basketball team is good and their hockey team at least makes money (right?). Any chance that they could go DI?
