My wife and I went out to Omaha for the CC series and got to visiting with Musser’s parents and granddad, nice folks. They mentioned they were from south central Minnesota so yah, I could totally see him wanting to play close to home.

Could we see Musser land at another NCHC school? Perhaps Denver? Matt Davis is a senior and I’m not sure if Freddie Halyk is considered the heir apparent or not.

Full disclosure: I don’t have any special insight to confirm if that’s the case but I do know that he was recruited to come play at CC by Mannino so certainly that could have played a role in it. Also, at the CC season ticket holder fan event last September, Kris Mayotte openly talked about how Mbereko had received multiple offers to go pro last summer but turned them down to come back and play one more season at CC. Well, things didn’t really go as planned this year, wondering if his value dropped given the relatively poor season he had. So, perhaps he has decided to return for his senior year and Musser figured he’d go someplace where he can have a shot at being the starting goalie.

Omaha also has Infusion Brewery. I’m not much of a beer snob, I tend to drink swill, but man their Vanilla Bean Blonde ale is the bomb yo!

I found an old article in the Gazette about Werner’s transfer from CC to Michigan and while it didn’t definitively say his reasons why he decided to leave, it mentioned how after getting off to a very hot start his freshman season, he hit a point dry spell going 3 months without a goal until, naturally, against UND. Article went on to say he fell to the fourth line starting the second half of the season, so perhaps there was some consternation there and his role with the team. I also read that he moved from Texas to Michigan when he was 12 to fully invest in his hockey career.

I’m not the most wired in guy but I will share anything I can find out. I had heard he had left CC because he had a buddy playing for Michigan and that’s why he went there. He was productive his freshman year at CC so I’m sure that had a material impact on Coach Mayotte’s plans for lineup preparation and such.

Was that EJ I saw clapping in the front row with his teammates? If so, great sign he’s coming back!

They showed his tourney stats on espn yesterday and I can’t quote them with 100% accuracy but let’s just say they were mind boggling. Something like a .94 or .96% save percentage and like a 1.something save percentage. Just sick numbers.

Dunbar didn’t see much action this year. Freshman Fisher Scott seemed to win over Mayotte and found himself a regular top pair D man as the season went along.

I think he’d be a great addition to UND but I’m a bit biased too.

It was so cool- his brother was on some sort of break and made the trip out to the Springs a month or so ago to see Zach play and he scored a goal that weekend. I thought that was pretty cool.

Good solid forward who has a little bit of scoring touch. Doesn’t score a ton but high energy guy. I think he torched UND the season prior down in the Springs.

They now hand out hardware for regional championships???

Odd they’d be carrying a trophy at the west regional. What trophy are they referring to?

My dad tells a funny story of how back in the 1970’s Michigan State was in town for a WCHA hockey series. Well, apparently, after the game, a bunch of Spartans players got drunk and thought it would be a great idea to kick out the windows of the JC Penny store that was then downtown. The players got hauled off to jail and my dad represented the JC Penny company. With the players in jailhouse jumpsuits at court on Monday, the JC Penny management decided that they did not wish to see the players’ careers hurt over their bone headed mistake so they offered that if the players paid for the damages, no charges would be filed. My dad said the coach, Amo Bessone, was all smiles in the court room and gladly agreed to my dad’s client’s proposal. I can only imagine the kind of punishment Coach dolled out at practice when they returned to East Lansing Lol. Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming. I thought this would be a fun story to share to lighten the mood around here given all the bad news we’ve been enduring today.

Agreed. I wonder if some complacency kicked in with Berry over the last few years between having long tenure and a fat paycheck. Scotty Owens’ last few years at CC, he wouldn’t even get on the ice for practice. He’d sit up in the stands with a newspaper while he let his assistants run practice. Also, he flew first class on road trips while players and assistants flew coach. Not good optics.

God, he had a terrible turnover in the opening minute of Friday night game up in Kalamazoo. The Broncos didn’t score but it kinda set the tone for the rest of the game. It was a pass you’d expect to see in beer league.

Man, talk about an arms race college hockey and college athletics overall has become. My god. This NIL stuff is just mind boggling.
