  1. Hey! I was 41 last night in my RMHL summer league playoff game! In some beer league circles that would make me a young'n!
  2. I just got an email from the UND alumni assoc. stating we could buy single seat tickets too. $29 each.

If you ever get down to te Springs, check out Bristol Brewery. They make over a dozen brews but they're most known for Laughing Lab. They recently renovated an old grade school and turned it into a collection of bars and restaurants. Great place to go before a CC hockey game.
  4. I received a phone call from the evil empire of DU the other day, soliciting me to buy group tickets for the UND/DU series at Magness. While I can't buy 20 tickets, I did ask if they planned to continue making single game purchasers buy additional DU athletics games as a prerequisite to purchase UND/DU games and he said no...thank god.
  5. Question: I could've sworn UND was going to play a series this fall up in Vermont. However, I don't see the Catamounts on UND's non-conference schedule. Am I wrong? Can anyone let me know what happened? Thanks, Dan
  6. http://m.gazette.com/new-cc-hockey-coach-mike-haviland-will-keep-academic-emphasis/article/1519857 Haviland will be formally introduced this afternoon on the CC campus as the new head hockey coach. Gutsy selection by AD. Will either prove to be a stroke of genius or a huge blunder...both in selection as well as decision to let Owens go.
  7. I agree! Leads by example. I also like the Alternate captain selections! Curious though, no D men are captains. Is that common?
  8. Passed over after years of loyal service as assistants and, in Rud's case, an alum who captained the '96 national runner up team...Ouch.

  10. Gazette article says that Haviland was dismissed from the Blackhawks in 2012. Curious as to why.
  11. I wouldn't be shocked if Rud and Bonnett are gone.
  12. As someone who's gone to CC games ever since they built the world arena, I personally do not enjoy the game as much on the Olympic sized rink. I think it's slower as teams who don't normally play on the big sheet can quickly adjust and anticipate those home run passes. I think more defensive mistakes, turnovers, and offensive forechecking pressure happens with greater frequency on the NHL sheet...resulting in more scoring opportunities and thus, more excitement for the fans. CC/DU games on the whole have generally been more entertaining with more turns in momentum when played at Magness than at World Arena. Just one guy's opinion.
  13. Yah, I was up in Winnipeg the weekend of the FF, playing in a company tournament, and one of the players from our Boston office who was there had played his college hockey at Union and he said that "no scholarship" policy is a bunch of smoke and mirrors. It's simply simantics as far as what they refer to it as. He laughed at the ESPN guys during the Union/BC game every time they carried on about that.
  14. Agreed. The only leagues that should require full cages are the E rec leagues in your respective town's beer league! Those hacks are the crazy ones hacking away because they can hardly skate. You start getting up in the more skilled levels, and injuries aren't nearly as common because the guys have the good sense to keep their twigs down and their slap shots below the shins.
  15. I like the Oilers but LOVE the Jets as a possible nickname! I think the obvious association with our aero space program combined with the imagery of speed make the Jets a great choice...not to mention the originality of the name among UND's fellow NCAA peers. Just my opinion.
  16. Guentzel has CC ties-he was an assistant there and his kid played there. That said, I'd be surprised if he was offered-or he accepted-the job being I've heard he's the heir apparent at Minnesota.
  17. Is it true that dinky town is kindof scuzzy?
  18. They called a trip on Minnesota and it was painfully clear that the Union player easily could've been called for a dive. The replay and announcers were right-that Union sold that dive well. I'm not sympathetic to Gopher fans considering it sounds like the Gophers were diving a lot in Thursday's game (I didn't get to see it up in Winnipeg as TSN inexplicably didn't televise it until Friday but yet they showed the Union/BC game live).
  19. I told a bunch of Canadian hockey players this weekend about Gopher fans singing Oh Canada! Or their chants of "gopher rejects!" when UND is playing them. While they chuckled a little, they didn't quite appreciate the inference of Minnesota hockey superiority. I was pleasantly surprised at how many of the Winnipeg guys were Sioux fans and rattled off so many names of Manitoban guys-Genoways, Toews, Patrick, Pattyn, etc. They pay attention.
  20. I wonder what happened with the Gophers last night? The little that I watched, it seemed as if they took a lot of silly penalties and that 6th goal was somewhat of a soft goal relative to Wilcox's abilities....a really bad time for giving up a leaker.
  21. I got to my folks' house in GF in time for the 3rd period and watched the rest of the game with them. We celebrated Union's goals and victory with much delight. I'd like to say that we wouldn't have celebrated with so much enthusiasm if it weren't for the fact that Gopher fans had such glee in our demise (admittedly, I'm sure UND fans including myself would've also reveled in beating the Gophers with .6 seconds left). All kidding aside, Union played great, had a fantastic team, and was no fluke...Congrats to them.
  22. A buddy of mine (Gopher fan), went to the FF. While I feel bad for him, I won't lie, I'm relieved that they lost tonight because he-and a few ex's-would've really let me have it had the Gophers won.
  23. I just played in a tournament in Winnipeg this weekend and I asked a guy who played varsity hockey for Union and he said that scholarships can be given to non-US (aka, Canadian student athletes).
  24. Why would CC hire Guentzel if it's likely he's going to bolt for Minnesota the second Lucia decides to step down? I think going for another former CC player would be a better way to go. Rud fits that bill. Obviously, Gwoz would offer a lot of "sex appeal" here in the front range but that's probably just a pipe dream.
