  1. It sucks and it doesn't suck. It sucks because he goes from a winning team to a losing team. It doesn't suck because he'll finally get a chance to play (assuming that the coach doesn't have his head up his butt). I'm happy for Bochenski. Also, since I know his girlfriend (ok, girlfriend as of December 2004 so things could have changed) lives in Rochester, MN, things will be easier for her and him than it was with him living in Ottawa/Binghampton.
  2. Hmmmm Nothing there I don't already see... some stuff that I find questionable. I'm still waiting for proof that the nickname was even remotely responsible for the inability of Native American students to participate in any organization as an example. But the resolution is passed and there's really no surprise to be had at all other than the fact that the UNDIA took until 2006 to take a stance against the name.
  3. I'll really miss Prpich. I'll miss opposing fans whining about Prpich. He's always fun to watch. But just because he's gone doesn't mean his playing style will go with him, just his flair. That's why I think Hakstol needs to sit Prpich and Kaip down and have a little "chat." Then Prpich needs to mold Kaip for the rest of the year in an image like his own. I really think Rylan Kaip can be the next Mike Prpich for the Sioux.
  4. My "beef" isn't what he knows or doesn't know about hockey really. It isn't that I don't think he's a great guy. I just think that, at times, he's not caught up with the times. The HIPAA thing was just a sore spot. I was really harsh on him in my last post, I'll admit that. I just wish he had more of a 'radio personality.' A bunch of hockey heads reminiscing is a good thing if you know as much about hockey as he does. However, to the masses, it just doesn't sound very good. Maybe he needs to alter his format to cater to the masses instead of just catering to people who were "there" and all. Sorry mikejm if I came across as trying to attack Bernie on a personal level. It has nothing to do with what he knows about hockey or who he is as a person. I just don't think he has the radio personality to make a great concept such as his show really work. He's got the knowledge, just not the ability to express it over the air.
  5. Sad? For Hoff? No, every time I read his article (once) all I can think of is the TV ads for Prairie Mental Health Clinics and praying that someday Hoff gets help, if not from Prairie, from SOMEONE.
  6. Don't know, from reading this thread, there appears to be a score of good goaltenders from ND this year. Hillman, Rosenthal, Kringstad, Deichert... and maybe a few others. My question is this: Has there been any other year where posters can say that there were more than 2 notable goaltenders for the season at the conclusion of the season? It seems to be that, whether it is a GF school or South, there seems to be one dominating goaltender a season. This year there are much more than that.
  7. And, of course, the SS.com team will be called for twice as many penalties as the POI.com team.
  8. I did catch the last few minutes of Hakstol's interview with Bernie Burgraff on the FAN 1280AM in Fargo (1440AM Grand Forks IIRC). They were talking about Fabian's injury. Hakstol wouldn't say how long Erik would be out but it wasn't information we already didn't know. EDIT: Due to second thoughts, I have removed the rant from this post. There are things I don't like about Bernie's show, but what I said really was over the line.
  9. There are other errors as well. Jack Skille is a forward, no? Seriously, if there are this many errors in this kind of report how can you take anything in the report seriously? Even those of players you aren't familiar with? I won't be going to this site the next time I wish to see what's the latest in prospects.
  10. So far tonight, Zach Parise has an assist on the only NJ goal with 5 minutes left in the 2nd period. Box Score UPDATE: Turns out the only goal the Devils would get as they lose to the Islanders in a shootout.
  11. You're fast with wit and can sometimes be offensive to even the staunchest of the opposition EDIT: Ok... you don't have much of an offensive upside... I tried though!
  12. If this is the case, it seems as though Becker and maybe Sutter are the only real "losses" to the Mavs. Becker (Sr.) is the only one to play in the majority of Mav games this season. He is 7-9-16 on the year. Toll (Sr.) has played in 26 games and has scored only two points, both goals. Sutter (So.) has played in 29 games for the Mavs and is 7-4-11 Hinz (So.) has only played in 3 games with only 1 2 minute minor to mark his presence. Besides, from what Mavs fans are talking about on USCHO, they thought Toll was a bust anyhow.
  13. Probably because I was under the impression that many of the UNDIA bigshots were trying to lead up the name change campaign? I dunno.
  14. jk- I hope you are a goon-type player.
  15. I'm not sure Jordan Parise should be faulted if the Sioux should fail to win an NC in his time as a Sioux. This is a team sport and no matter how well Jordan plays, if they don't win, they can't get the trophy. There are players out there who barely if ever won it all. Ray Bourque won his Stanley Cup in his final season but he had to leave Boston to do it. The best example isn't in hockey, however. Dan Marino is considered one of the best NFL QBs of all time yet he never won a Super Bowl. How does this truly diminish Marino's calibre? I say rejoice that we got a goaltender that turned out to be one helluva better goaltender than I think anyone figured he'd be when he was recruited out of Waterloo (USHL). That's the one thing I'll be grateful to JPar for when he leaves UND: Closing the door on the goaltender issue. I'm just happy I got to see him play. Just like I was happy to see Karl Goehring play.
  16. My additions to this wonderful thread topic: Oshie: PCM updated the size thing, but I say he's really doing a great job in all facets of the game. Similarly to what Roper said, I think Oshie needs to work on the same thing Porter needs to work on: getting stronger on his skates. No, he's not a Earl-esque (blow on him and he falls down) type of problem in that regard, but the stronger on his skates he can be, the better. Look at Stafford and Zajac. Those two are the embodiment of strong on their skates. Duncan: Nothing to add here. I really like what he's doing on the ice. And, maybe the only thing that hasn't been mentioned is that he seems to bring a feistier attitude to whichever line he's on. I greatly admire a guy who is my height who can take the game to people who are bigger than he is. Kozek: (I spelled it right! ) I agree with Goon, Duncan, Kozek, and Watkins are the future leaders of this team. Kozek is finally starting to catch up with the DI level whereas Watkins seems to be struggling a bit in the offensive zone. The one thing I like about Kozek is that he has a vicious attitude towards physical play. And he'll take on anyone right now! He's starting to rush the net and darned if that's not going to help him offensively. Watkins: The guy can play defensive hockey however he has been somewhat snakebitten in the offensive zone. Sure, he's put on a line that doesn't give him much for playing time, but I think he'll improve vastly. Especially if he works on conditioning and his game during the off season. Toews: Monster. He's the best player on the team in terms of going high on a goaltender and that's saying something with players like Oshie and Stafford also on the team. He's not destined to wear a Sioux jersey for long. Possibly only one more season Finley: If growth was the measure of what makes a great defenseman, Finley is the Rookie of the Year. He has developed in one season FAR better than any other freshman in all facets of the game he's expected to play in. He looked awkward and tentative when he was first on the ice. Afraid to do anything lest he take a penalty. Now, though he's not quite at the point where he'd dominate (and he may never get there...), he's getting closer to it every game. It's been amazingly easy to track his progress. Lee: There are only two points of his play that I'm not very keen on: His shot and his physicality. He has size and, though he is not a bruiser by any means, I still think he could use his size better. He needs to show less fear. I know we rag on our players when they get called for a penalty but that doesn't mean you take away from your game to ensure you don't get called. Good checks get called all the time in this league. His shot: No, I'm not talking about slapshot vs. wrist shot. His shot takes FOREVER to get off unless he's already rushing the net. More than just learning a slap shot, I think Lee needs to work on getting his shots off faster. A one timer is something Lee isn't very good at because his shot is so cumbersome at times. He's going to be a good one, but he definitely needs to quicken the pace on his shot. Chorney: More offensive minded than Jones by a long shot but just as defensively reliable. He's the defensive surprise of the year, IMO. I expected Jones to acclimate to the DI game faster because of the program where he came from, but I didn't expect it from Chorney. This guy knew the game almost right away. I'll tell you something: When I watched him play at the Ralph while he was with Shattuck, I did see he had tremendous talent, but not quite as polished as I saw him when he donned the Sioux jersey. I still think he needs to work on shot accuracy. Jones: This guy is solid defensively. He's got grit and attitude to spare. However, he needs to work on his emotions. This is his only shortcoming in my opinion. He's no longer playing like a freshman. We'll need him to play as solid as he has of late to have any shot at making it deep into the playoffs. Edit: Forgot about the rest. Saw Martens play vs. Harvard and thought he was a hard worker and put everything into his game while he was on the ice. He potentially has Fabian's game written all over him. Miller is fast and has an offensive upside, but he's so light on his skates.... The rest haven't really played to factor into anything.
  17. Very true, but: 1. The NCAA does (or will). 2. You do. I doubt the team would like to hear you come into the bench after a shift complaining about "old person" problems.
  18. While dagies' comparison flies, this one doesn't. After all, say that to Elliott about facing Tech. Heck tell that to ANY of Tech's opponents between the two UND meetings and they'll tell you a different story. Tech may be a bottom tier team, but they don't get shut out back to back that often. They are usually good for at least one goal.
  19. HMMMMM... PCM, are you even eligible? I think that might be a factor... well, that an age
  20. Something tossed around on the hockeysfuture.com prospects boards lately was that Kessel's shooting percentage is something like 8.4% whereas Toews is 21.something %. You stats guys might think this significant, but I thought it was interesting. Of course, Kessel has something like twice as many shots as Toews does, but.... Meh. Like I said, give the award to Kessel. I really don't care who wins it. I'd rather win games than win awards.
  21. That's just depressing.
  22. I agree with the selections when it is put this way. Parise has been on fire (discounting the Saturday DU game) lately and I'm grateful for it. Awards are just things on paper people who sit behind desks give out to make themselves feel more a part of the game. Any athlete will tell you that a trophy/medal/win is more important. To beat this to death consider this: What would you rather have: WCHA POTW awards for a Sioux member in all three categories every week of the season for 2 straight years or at least 1 NC? I'll take the National CHampionship as a fan and I doubt the answer would be different than mine if you asked any member of the Sioux.
  23. I'd like to say Congrats to Ryan Stoa and Jonathon Toews as being the only two winners of the award to have their names spelled correctly.
  24. I agree. However, it is surprising that they had a neutral stance on this before. I was under the impression that they were always against the name.
  25. He's just a racist. I mean, we're not seeing it his way so we're now "backwoods yaddayadda hicks" now. He's name calling so he's given up all hope of being taken seriously. He's now firmly at the two year old mentality of "I don't like you, you big MEANIE!! You're a poopyhead! I'm gonna tell on you!" Who cares. I've ignored him now. He's not worth my time. It's too bad it has come down to that. I mean, a good debate in invigorating. But who argues with a person who is prone to childishness and petty name calling?
