I'd say some people are worried because we just got cleanly beaten by a team that is worse on paper than we are. But as good as I think we are on paper, Michigan probably looks better offensively and driving some defense from the back end. So if paper comes to real life along with our recent play, we are going to struggle.  If we play the way we did at home against Denver and Western, I think we have a decent chance.  Oh and stay out of the box, please.

I've thought all season that we match up better against more skilled teams and I think the record has shown that. I'm confident we can do it.

Stay out of the box. Yes, yes, yes. It's a must.

This team is much better defensively than the Michigan we are used to seeing. Goaltending is just ok, but they have definitely improved on their structural team  defense as this season has progressed. They are trending in the right direction at the right time of the year, unfortunately for us.

I didn't say they were bad, I said they weren't great, which I think is fair. We can score like they can, too. I don't see any reason we can't have a little confidence in our team.

For the last (2) games against CC and (3) against Omaha (all losses) the UND save percentage was 82% and the opponent's 95%.   UND had significantly more quality shots and "close shots" on goal and outshot the opponent by a margin of 181 (9 goals allowed ) to 146 (26 goals allowed).  The opponent's goals skewed significantly toward longer range shots.

We need solid play, not lose the goaltender battle, and a little puck luck, all of which are possible.

Don't you DARE bring in xG ;)

I see it as a matchup problem, and teams will now attempt to use the "formula" of CC and Omaha:

    1. Hard forechecking in the defensive zone and play physical

    2. Win faceoffs (CC and Omaha are very good at faceoffs) because they have puck possession and many goals are scored off of faceoffs

    3. Aggressive PK to limit our power play

    4. Traffic in front of UND net and shoot from the point

    5. Good goaltending

These are just my observations. UND seems to have better success against highly skilled teams like DU, Minnesota and BU.

Totally agree with all of this. The bolded part was exactly why I wanted to avoid Sioux Falls with RIT and Omaha in that bracket. I think we match up well against all three teams in our region

After  playing the Badgers early in the year, I thought this team has the potential to be a Frozen Four team.  Our defense was so good at limiting their chances and our goalie played great.  How do we get back to that?

Did it against Miami. Did it, in large part against Western. Not much the other games down the stretch. The sweep against DU when we held them to 2 goals each night when they hadn't been held under three all season was my favorite weekend.

I saw it in stretches on Friday against Omaha, but it seemed like every time we lost a puck battle, it was in the back of the net. So frustrating. Obviously they feel the same way about it.

We've had a lot of frickin' hockey since 2016.  And it seems like frickin' hockey happens more often to some. Not saying yelling in the locker room is the solution - but we need to get the team beating our opponents for the puck and in the corners.  Also we need to stop the lackadaisical passes in our d zone and  stop getting out of position leading to easy goals.  We need intensity.  Some of that comes from what is emphasized in practice and some from the players themselves.  The frustrating part for me is that we had the defense playing fantastic hockey in the first half then not.  It seems like we have difficulty when pressured.  Our poor play against Omaha has us now playing Michigan in some garage rink instead of being closer to home playing the number 4 seed.

Disagree with the first bolded. 1 team wins a title each season. Are you willing to propose a reason as to why it happens or why you feel that way that it happens more often to some (I'm assuming you mean to UND).

I agree with you that I think we've played worse defensively over the past month or so. I'm also confident that they will get back to that level on Friday. They were last there in the first round of the NCHC playoffs against Miami. It's not like it's been forever.

My overall point to this run of conversation, it's not a lack of motivation. It's all about getting to our game and getting it done. The players do this. There's no doubt that they know what to do and how to do it. Just need to execute. And if it doesn't happen, blaming Bubs makes no sense to me. He's made adjustments. He did it in game against Omaha by bringing Johannes to the top line and you saw they play better in the third.
