We got bit by incompetent linesman who somehow overruled an onside call by looking at a camera angle from the opposite end of the ice. There were other angles available but people were standing and blocking the view. Since there was no replay that could show a definitive view of offsides the refs decided to…change the call on the ice.
^^^ THIS! I'll never understand it.

I get it. And don’t disagree that the extremes of the argument on both sides get ridiculous and tiring. My guess is you feel the need to over-index on defending the team to balance out all the negative crap; I appreciate that and am sure it gets old for you too.
Last point on the concocted blame (bubs magic whisperings). I can tell when my car, appliance, etc isn’t performing when I need it to. I may not know why, but that shouldn’t be required of me as a consumer. It’s up to the engineer to figure out and address if they want my business.
Fans are just trying to rationalize why the postseason result is SO consistently not matching the expectation. To argue the opposite side and defend as if a coach has no say in this ( parity, prep/strategy, game/psychological readiness, culture, etc) implies that the best coaches out there really don’t do anything differently than the good. I don’t agree; even if I don’t have access and/or expertise to tell you the difference.
I do, and I wish I didn't do it. I don't have to and I probably shouldn't because it truly is a toxic conversation. The conversation about performance is often not proven in fact but more of the "I think" we're not playing well. That's where I get frustrated with the "they aren't playing hard" or "they don't care" ... without solutions, it's just nonsensical whining.
It's absolutely not that coaching is ALL catching a bounce. Not even close. The good coaches get their teams to the spots where the bounces matter. From there, it's execution of what got you there and then, yes, a bounce or two. Bubs did the work recruiting, helping players to improve, installing systems, updating systems, making changes, getting his team to this point.... now, save a dramatic in-play change where sometimes things need to happen, it's up to the players.
Lastly, talking about not meeting expectations consistently, that's where I push back. This is where unrealistic expectations come into play. Talked about this before, but losing in 5OTs to UMD, to Notre Dame in OT, to BU in OT where a rule change was made that would have changed the outcome ... does this really reflect that UND is not meeting the expectation? Those games are wild and I think it's unfair to knock Bubs or the program because we didn't win those games. My thought is that crap, that's just hockey.

Agreed 100%. But at some point a trend needs to be reviewed/assessed. Not today though! Big tilt tonight!
I'll agree with that.
YES. Let's go. Man, I've got that nervous excitement going like crazy. I noticed it when it was 2-2 for Minny/UNO last night. Ugh, I love/hate the tournament lol

Passionate fan loyalty and dedication is earned. And while it’s great to have thousands of fans supporting you wherever you go, giving you and the athletes travel destination opp’s and taking away much of their home advantage even when you're on the road, fans don’t OWE you that. Keeping in mind many fans have spent thousands of dollars lately to support the team only to routinely see them lose (destinations, NCHC and NCAA tourney), often in very lackluster fashion and when they were the better team on paper…you can’t really fault them for some pessimism or frustration in my book. I also don’t think the teams owes fans wins, or that it’s realistic to not lose. But you can’t have it both ways.
Analytically, I’d love to see UND’s record in the post-season vs expectation (KRACH or similar), under Berry. I could be wrong, but I expect it would show drastic underperformance vs expectation, which is what many fans struggle to understand.
Most people I’ve talked to just expect UND to lose today, because that’s what keeps happening. I’m still holding out hope and like the bracket overall, but if I’m honest and had to bet my house one way or the other..I’d have to take the underdog in this one. Hopefully Berry and the boys can prove the naysayers wrong and start winning the games that matter. I’ll be cheering (and possibly some griping) for the team for as many games as they have this year and beyond, regardless.
People get crucified on this board for saying parity is a factor, but ignoring it, especially in a game that is often a one-bounce game, is just wild to me. I think many fans don't have reasonable expectations anymore, frankly. The overreactions are absolutely obnoxious and drips with entitlement. A large amount of our fanbase sees every loss we have as "the boys aren't trying hard enough" or "they aren't real Sioux" or "the boys don't care enough" or "Bubs can't get them up for a big game", and that's what bothers me. We seem to have this expectation (not all of us, but some -- still the minority, but a loud and vocal one) that we should win every game just because we're North Dakota and that's how it works. College hockey is just different now than it used to be. Added parity with how the game of hockey works, we now have a game that is anyone's game each night.
More often than not, the best team wins. I'm hoping we're the best team tonight. And if we aren't, it's not due to a magic potion whispered from Bubs, it's because the other team played better and finished their chances.

Day of the playoffs and the topic at hand is how our fans will react to a loss.
I guess that's the world of the message boards.
Does this say more about the board or more about the team?

As for who "The Situation" on Jersey Shore is... how much time do you have?
Well, frankly, until about 7:30 tonight lol

which one is "The Situation"? and why are we calling him "The Situation"? I missed something. Are we going with "Cheese"?
Lol it's Persson. Someone referenced the goalie "Situation" earlier this week, so I think that's where that's coming from.

Denver has turned the puck over a lot in their own zone ... UMass just hasn't made them pay.
Nothing I love more than OT playoff hockey!!
Except when UND is in it. I hate it so much lol.

Does anyone know why Bubs took James off the O'Mc line? coming out of the break those guys were flying. I get that Kunz is a grinder but James is faster and way more skilled. Sorry but the kid is waisting away down on the grind line with Jammer and Schmaltz.
Personally, I think we finally saw Johannes look like he did in the first half when he got moved up to OMac and Blake's line on Friday. Those three created a bunch in the third. That's my top line as long as Johannes is healthy.

Gotta be a profane rant, where he breaks shyt. No down side I can see: if they lose, they'll soon have social-media-induced PTSD anyway.
For every broken stick and every time he uses the word "pussy" we are +.5 goals.

No worries. The last I had heard was speculation that he was dealing with a nagging injury.
In any case, I'm hoping Ludvig is 100% on Friday. We're gonna need him at his best for the next four games.
Yeah, it's not an injury.

Not sure if it was reported. Team had it as "undisclosed" but he was sick. Sorry, I thought that was pretty well known.

Here's a goalie comp between the presumed starting goalies, Barczewski and Persson:
Barczewski, 25 yo, Gr, 34 Games, 2.83 GAA, .907 SV%, 2 SH
Persson, 24 yo, Sr, 33 Games, 2.47 GAA, .906 SV%, 5 SH
IMO, they're pretty similar except for the accent (Barczewski is from Missouri). They're both about the same age, they're both about the same size, they both have a lot of college experience, they're both at their second school, they both have similar numbers, and they've both been good-but-not-great. (Nationally, the median team SV% this season was almost exactly .900. and the median GAA was almost exactly 3.00.)
The biggest question around the goaltenders appears to be the mystery surrounding Ludvig and his situation.
Mystery? He was sick. Then Hobie got a little hot, Bubs made the call to stick with him at the Faceoff, and it didn't work out. Luddy will start Friday.

Exactly. I don't understand why bringing in a portal goalie is a bad thing.
