To each his own. It's a good thing or else you'd have a hard time stepping inside the REA.

Actually, I don't owe anyone an explanation for giving the innocuous opinion that the FSU chant is uncool. I don't agree with the NCAA's stance, I just don't care for the chant. Fairly simple.
-
I'll repeat that I am not bothered by the usage of Native American imagery for usage by athletic organizations, I didn't say I was "offended" in this case because I'm not, I didn't say I think FSU fans should be asked not to perform the chant and I don't think the NCAA needs to "crack down" on anything. I simply stated that there's something about the FSU "chant" that rubs me the wrong way. One needn't be a Seminole to hold an opinion about 'The Chant'. I repeat - I'm not offended by it and don't think fans should be asked to stop doing it, but something about it irks me. Does the fact I'm not a Sioux render my support of UND's usage of the Sioux name meaningless? How about your support?

I'm not bothered by the usage of Native American images for mascots/nicknames, but "The Chant" by FSU and Braves fans for some reason rubs me the wrong way. I just don't see anything redeeming by it all.

For those of you more plugged into this issue, do think that something like this hurts UND's own fight with the NCAA or will it have no impact?

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I knew there was still a stage that could determine he's not eligible for the DP but didn't describe it properly.

I heard on the radio yesterday during the Barrister's brunch on KFAN that he could be executed somewhere out west (Colorado I believe). He could be wrong but I thought I'd pass that along. I don't know if this has been said or not but the trial was just the first stage. The next is to determine whether or not his was a federal crime and therefore eligible for the DP. After that, there will be more deliberations as to whether or not he shoud be executed or given life in prison.

I'm not sure I know a Gophers fan aware of the history that far back that wouldn't include Pieterangelo right alongside guys like Stauber, Janaszak or Shelstad. As for other non-Minnesotans that have worn the 'M', while it's true a number of Sioux fans like to discount the contributions of players such as Vanek, Irmen and G/R Potulny, we mostly have fond memories of them.

Relative to Lammy, it certainly is correct.

I think we will have to agree to disagree. I didn't say Briggs was a great goalie, but imho he certainly qualifies as a 'good' goalie.

Very good discussion so far. I've read a lot of interesting and informative input (points, counter-points, etc.) from several different posters so far. Sadly, it seems to only have brought us all back to square 1 - which is, "Who the hell knows?".
-
My overall point though is that I don't think Gopher fans should be worried about Briggs next season and that if we really should be, it's not because of what happened against HC. The key here is that I'm not trying to absolve Briggs but rather spreading the blame around to where I think it's more deserved. I noted before that had Briggs played a bit better perhaps the Gophers would not have lost, but the entire team didn't deserve to beat HC because the entire team played poorly. They weren't aggressive, didn't go after loose pucks with fervor, weren't crisp in the passing game and as Sagard noted took too many penalties. That was a total lack of team effort imho.

I agree with you about Lammy. I don't think Sioux fans should not have confidence in Lammy, rather that I don't think it should be any greater than how a Gopher fan should feel about Briggs. They've had similar numbers, but additionally in his defense Briggs has had an opportunity to play in the NCAAs (with positive and negative results) and he's done well in the WCHA where the competition is as good as it gets. imho they've both proven they can win important games, but can they do it for the long haul? UND fans also have to like the D unit in front of Lammy next year which never hurts, and the Gophers have the potential for having better defensive play in front of Briggs than they did last year. What I want to see Lucia sell on his forwards though is more grit and determination in the corners, something that cost them against UND in 2004 and against HC in 2005. As for Frazee, I've posted at gpl that it's too soon to write him off. He didn't do what he did prior to playing for the Gophers because he sucked. I think Frazee came in with a big head and was ill-prepared mentally for the level of competition. Maybe he is overrated and we've already seen what he can do, or he'll get his head on straight and step up his play.

TRIOUXPER - I have you on ignore but because I can see your reply I will reply this one time. I never said HC didn't show more heart or desire in that game, I said that Briggs wasn't the reason the Gophers lost. This was said in the context of a discussion about what Gopher fans might be able to expect from Briggs this season. I simply stated the OT goal was a fluke - a crossing pass that goes in off a skate in front as Briggs was sliding to play the probable shot to follow is a flukey goal. I didn't say it was flukey in order to claim I don't think HC deserved to win the game, I said it was flukey in order to explain that I don't think Briggs should be the one to blame for that loss. Perhaps if you responded to the actual content of my posts, I wouldn't feel it necessary to have you on ignore.

skateshattrick - I agree and disagree. I'm not saying Briggs will be the Gophers' savior this year, but Sioux fans shouldn't be any more confident with Lammy going into 2006-07 than we should be with Briggs. If you look back at those two games the entire team in front of Briggs let down against SCSU and HC as much so, if not more so, than Briggs himself. Yes sure, perhaps if he had stolen another goal or two it would have made a difference, but the SCSU loss isn't why they lost to HC and the OT goal against HC was a fluke. Plus Briggs has had more experience - positive or not - in those types of games.

This is what you think they should be ranked? Will be ranked? Both? imho I think you'll see UND higher ranked toward the end of the season rather than the beginning.
-
These 'sources' claim he's blaming the outflux of underclassmen this season for last season's failure to reach the FF? This doesn't make sense since the losses last summer were nothing like they were this summer, no different than what the majority of quality programs go throught year to year and doesn't sound like anything Lucia would say.

Whatever you say, Sally.

Maybe you need to drink less beer. Ah, isn't it fun being a dick just because someone gives a different opinion? As for "needing better glasses", I would be willing to bet the vast majority of WCHA fans do not see UMD finishing ahead of both UM and UW in the standings this season and that would not necessarily have anything to do with bias. I also have to logically look at the fact UMD is going to have to leap-frog 7 teams - in the WCHA - in order to finish in 2nd place this season. What will happen remains to be seen, but I'm looking at this logically. Of course my logic might end up being horse-crap but hey that's why it's fun to predict.
-
UMD and SCSU to finish ahead of UW? UW returns more than both, brings in more and they have a better goalie. I also don't see any possibility for UMD to finish in the top 5 - that's just too many teams to leap-frog from last year. I'm not sure about the order, but UW, UND, UM and DU will fight for the top 4.
