Ryan will be playing in his first NHL game tonight with the flyers against Buffalo. Even though he was a gopher, we should all be proud to see the RRHS kid making it into an NHL lineup at only 21.

Thought this was a cool article, and kind of sums up what all of us already know and feel about the excitment of college hockey. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/stor...john&id=2387250

The Sioux will not win a power play contest with the gophers, they need to be careful

I enjoy listening to Woog also. He makes me laugh alot but thats good. It's a heated rivalry and it's fun to hear a perspective from someone who knows the game as good as any. Even if he's a gopher. Frank on the other hand I could probably go without

Wow... they say Tysen Dowzak is a big dissapointment up in the WHL... too bad

What are the lines tonight?

Congrats to the captians. I mentioned this before somewhere, that this is a very big season for Matt Smaby and my guess is Tampa will be watching him closer than ever. His role has changed alot since last season. I think this is where the coaches saw him when he first joined the Sioux (leading the team and counted on heavily for solid defense for probably 30+ minutes a game). He's got big shoes to fill, but he learned from the best (Greene, Jones Schneider) and should do a great job this year. The young d-men are really going to look towards him for direction. Great choice by the team for a cap. Good luck to all three of them they have their work cut out.

which shattuck players should we watch this season
Superman0099 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Saw one game this weekend where SSM lost 5-1 (they were physically outmatched) but anyway, Tyler Ruegsegger (sp?) looked to be the best of the bunch. Good size and speed and handled the puck well. Jordan Murray had a nice goal. I don't think Toews was playing. Jloos - is your cousin Cory Loos? If so I think he may have had a goal on friday, I don't get out to alot of games but I'll let you know. -

Wow, I just looked at the schedule and SSM is playing the bozeman ice dogs tonight. (I live in bozeman) So I guess I'll go check out the game and see what they look like... -
Bo and Heatley centered by Spezza? That line will score alot of points this season if they keep it together. Bo is actually not a bad skater. His form isn't the greatest which is why he seems to be a little slower, but I highly doubt that will hold him back at this point. Congrats to Bo it seems like he is doing very well for himself up there in Ottawa.

Personally, I think for Jones's sake it would be beneficial for him to play in the AHL for a year. They (Phoenix) quite obviously see his potential and have plans to make him one of their top defensemen, but if he plays for the coyotes this year, he would probably not see more than a 5-10 minutes of ice time per game. With the AHL club he could see more like 30+. Jones is good enough to become one of their top 3 or 4 defensemen within the next few years, and with the right development he will be there.

Stafford C Prpich A Fabian A Stafford is going to lead this team this year, on and off the ice. The younger guys are going to look to him as he has the WJC's, WCHA and Frozen Four title games, and 3 years of experience at UND. Drew could contend for a Hobey Baker award this season and is going to be his biggest year yet. Leading this team is a very good opportunity for him and he is exactly the type of player that you want to see wearing the C on his jersey. He shows up every night to win, and for UND hockey coaches, players, and fans alike, there is no second best. These kids are here to win national championships and with Drew's performance in the FF last year it looks as if he is ready to do that. Prpich, though many disagree with his tactics, is the BEST at what he does in the WCHA, no question about it. Solid worker and is a 'leads with an iron fist type' IMO. He also has more experience than anyone on this team. He may take alot of penalties but I'm sure as hell glad he's on our team. Fabian, in my opionion, had a breakout year last year. His first season here he struggled to get ice time, and that continued on until later in the second year. Many players in his position do not develop as far as he has. We have all heard comments along the lines of him being the hands down hardest worker on this team, and thats just the aspect that he could bring to the year's leadership. He was one of the best players on the ice for the sioux in the postseason, and not only that he was a freakin' force down low. I expect to see much more of his abilites as the season goes on, and for the new guys like Martens, Miller, Alexander, etc.. who are all coming in with this huge class of highly regarded players, Fabian will more than likely be an inspiration for them to go an extra mile this year. The deeper this team gets, the better. Nonetheless, all the players mentioned above would be great candidates, Zajac, Parise, whoever. I feel the three I listed would be a good crew to take over and develop character and chemistry amongst this year's squad. All in all, I'm looking forward to a VERY exciting season.

I can't find my copy right now but I'm almost positive that "Fight On Sioux" by Ralph Englestad has what your looking for in it.

Sounds like some good publicitiy to me, good for hockey all around and should be fun to see how the coyotes organization comes around over the next couple of seasons.
-
From what I've seen and heard, Kessel is a more offensive-impact type player than Toews, who is considered more of an all around type player similar to what Zajac is. I believe Kessel will score more points at Minny, but Toews will be no less impressive.

Rory will be a great addition to the capitals organization. He is a very hard worker, never takes shifts off, and is the type of player that leads by example. Origionally used in the Sioux lineup for his defensive and faceoff abilities, Rory showed that he can produce points as well especially in his senior season. He grew very well as an all around player at UND and can move the puck exceptionally. He can play on the power play, penalty kill, be a first line center, or play a 3rd line checking role. He is feisty and not afraid to stand up for himself or teammates. Not a flashy type, but gets the job done effectively. A reliable player who shows up every single night. Strong with or without the puck, Rory was one of the key skaters in taking UND to the championship game. Best of luck to him with the caps, I'm sure he will not dissapoint.

I liked how the translated version referred to Jonathen as ''it''... Makes it sound like he's some kind of hockey machine and not a real person. Good read, I think the writer might have thought Jon made a bad decision by picking UND over a MJ team. Go figure Doesn't seem to be hurting players like Drew Stafford or Zach Parise. I think Jon made a great decision.
