  1. Of all the drugs that are available for our consumption, alcohol is far and away the most abused by Native Americans. Why? There is research which suggests native americans are more suseptible to become alcoholics because of genetics. Another reason: my grandmother used to tell me of the trading post in Ft Tooten when she was a girl. They would sell the basic neccessities at inflated prices yet sell large quantities of liquor for pennies. The philosophy was keep the indians drunk and they wont cause any problems. Thats why the stereotype of the drunk indian us so hurtful.
  2. If there is backlash then it will prove my point and further show the need for the name to be dropped.
  3. Why would i get suspended for sa ying whats on my mind?
  4. Yes!! I told u all this day would come! Took a bit longer than i thought but we are victorious.
  5. And neither do the caucasion nickname supportors!
  6. Hey Archie, why don't you and your followers put all your time and energy into trying to solve some of the social problems on the SRT? You should be ashamed of yourselves! Theres more important issues for you to concentrate on. I applaud the SRT tribal council. Time to move on!!!
  7. Your saying that the NA's on the SRN had thier civil rights denied because of this issue? Thats an insult to all NA's! NA's have been the victims of horrible, atrocious civil rights abuses since 1492 and you dare to put this in that category? Shame on you. You need to take a step back and reevaluate this whole issue.
  8. Hey thanks for posting these e-mail addresses! I just e-mailed all of them to thank them for thier courageous decision!! Pidamaya, again.
  9. HAHAHAHAHA!!! Sticks and Stones, baby!!
  10. I could give a rats a$$ if you come to the casino or not. I have a Masters Degree, my wife and I have darn good jobs and I rely on the casino for nothing! Thanks for asking though.
  11. Let's see, yes, yes and hell yes!!
  12. YYYYYYEEEEESSSSSSS!!! What did I tell you from the beginning? What you gotta say now?? Ahh, a good day, indeed. You'all take care now.
  13. http://www.wdaz.com/ See for yourself. Facts is Facts!!
  14. Yeah baby! Just heard on the news that SR will not be voting on the nickname! Way to take a stand my Lakota brothers and sisters! Goodbye Fighting Sioux!! I told you people from the beginning the name would be dropped!! HAHAHAHA, YES!!!
  15. I agree 100% with your words about democracy and I have voted many times and my guy or issue didn't pass and I have lived with it, also, big deal. This issue is different because we are asking a viable government to vote ON A NICKNAME!! Not a person for office or an issue that will have an economic or cultural impact. A NICKNAME!!! Are you kidding me! Can someone give me an example of this that has happened somewhere in the US? I think they SBofHE and the NCAA are making us look like idiots, pawns, chess peices in a stupid game and a significant number of NA's are letting them do it! That just eats me to the core. Come people of the SLT and the SRT, we're better than that!
  16. I hate to burst your bubble but it doesn't matter what the outcome of the election is at SR or the vote at SLT, the nickname is still going to be changed! This issue is never going to die. Us nickname opponents did not make an agreement with the NCAA or whore ourselves out like some of the name supporters on the SLT with cash and/or gifts from the Englestads. And it just sickens me that the people of the SRT are going to elect a chairman based on a nickname! WOW! The repurcussions from this could be serious for the people of SR. Also, I had a feeling that the SL tribal council would allow the vote but I can't for the life of me see them giving a 30 year agreement. The talk in the community is that they won't.
  17. No, no, no, that isn't the principal reason why I want to see the name changed. The main reason, and I have stated this in earlier posts, is because of the way I was treated as an undergrad at UND. I have gone into detail in earlier posts so I won't now, but basically, UND says it is honoring the Sioux people by using the name, yet I felt anything but honored when I went to school their. After I graduated I had a bad taste in my mouth overall and that is how I arrived at my current stance. But I did make that statement although I don't think those aren't the exact words I used but I could be wrong.
  18. Where do I say it has an impact?? Another thing you people don't realize is that the vote among the council was 3-2 in favor of voting but from what I hear it was very close to being 3-2 in favor of not voting. And to dmksioux, i'll say it again, this has nothing to do with the rituals, ceremonies and language of my people. For you to suggest that it does is an insult. A good rule of thumb is that if Dakota Culture and Wasicu's(white's) are in the same sentence, then it has zero to do with our culture. By the way, we don't do a dance before every athletic event.
  19. As an enrolled member of the SLT, I feel this isssue should not have been voted on by the tribal members. Our constitution says that only issues that have a direct economic, financial or cultural impact on our people can be put to a vote. No, this issue has nothing to do with our traditions and sacred rituals. All it has done is create divisivness on our rez. Our tribal council did a poor job of interpreting our constitution. This whole voting issue would be analogous to the Miller Brewing Company approaching our tribe and wanting us to vote for "taste great" or "less filling". I applaud Ron HHT and the Standing Rock Tribal Council for not voting on this fiasco.
  20. No, if someone goes after NDSU I won't be one of them.
  21. See this is the kind of BS that put me on the side of getting rid of the name/logo. Native don't get free tuition or help with tuition anymore than a southeast asian, black or any other minority. Look at the stats, only a small portion of the cultural diversity waivers go to NA's.
  22. What did I say? No matter the vote was on the SLT the name/logo was still going to be changed. It's a good day to be Native!! Hoka hey!!! OK, let me have it!
  23. I read in the Herald today that a Lakota band from SD was scheduled to play at the Fritz but cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. Huh? So many peolple on this site have said they would like to educate themselves more about Dakota/Lakota culture and a native entertainment group comes to GF and no one wants to see them! Just goes to prove my point that 99% of name supporters don't give a damn about NA's or Native culture. And you all know thats the truth. All they are concerned about is thier precious logo/nickname. People of Standing Rock, take note of this. Me and my family were in GF today and we were in Target shopping. When we got to the checkout we were the 3rd in line. The check out girl was this bubbly person who struck up a conversation with the 2 customers ahead of us, both caucasions. When it was our turn all she said was "hi" and "did you find everything". That was it. Thats how it is for Natives in towns like DL and GF. You stay classy GF!!
