  1. Force received six votes??? Does anyone actually believe that would be more marketable than the interlocking logo that we have used for decades and the name of our university and state?
  2. So did anyone submit any nicknames today?
  3. Tomahawks is a great nickname----easy play off the Aviation school and can still pay homage to our history. Also has a nice ring to it, North Dakota Tomahawks.
  4. The fact Nokotas has this weird following on here blows my mind. It is a mouthful at best, and realistically is only unique because no other school would be dumb enough to use it as a moniker. Nobody will know or care about it anymore when they actually learn its a horse. Instead of re-inventing the wheel with a "prideful", semi-state based name we are going to be lumped in with the Banana-Slugs, Chanticleers, and Kangaroos in the why the hell are they called that category. Nodaks is lazy and repetitive. Taking emotion out of it and picking on some of our neighbors ask yourself if these are good nicknames worth building a brand around: Minnesota Minnies, Wisconsin Wiscos, South Dakota Sodaks? Anyone who thinks Nodaks is better than no nickname and worth alienating the fan base further over is approaching this all wrong. Warriors/Roughriders may be used by other universities however the LSU Tigers have a pretty good brand despite the fact the Detroit Tigers and a million other schools use the same nickname. The logo should be unique/distinguishable, and with both of these nicknames this is very doable. I'm certain we'll end up with a nickname that is tolerable at the end of this process, however the traction Nodaks/Nokotas have received on here has me a little scared for what we actually may end up with.
  5. Warriors. Easy tie-in to Air Force Base, veterans who have graduated from the university, while having a tie to the previous nickname for the 'No Name' crowd.
  6. Defensive Zone - Our forwards are an absolute train wreck in the defensive zone, it appears we're playing a collapsing coverage when the puck is high and we're standing at the points when the puck is low. I would put the fault primarily on our wingers. A weakside defenseman should never be able to take eight strides and fire a shot from the dot, ever, period. Offensive Zone - All sorts of talent however no real integrity to the forecheck they are trying to run. We seem to be scoring on talent alone as a previous poster has stated. Our forwards were caught numerous times below the puck last night, it seemed every rush we had was 2-3, 3-3. Contrarily Duluth seemed to catch us in odd-man situations time and time again. Lineup - Rowney brings us nothing on the top line at this point. Grimaldi may be held back playing in his current role. I would like to see them move Rowney back to center where he excelled last year possibly between O'Donnell and Gaarder. This would still leave us of Caggilua MacMillan and Chyzyk for tonight. Most importantly this would put Kristo-Knight-Grimaldi together which should account for 65% of this teams goals, and put our defensive liabilities on one line as opposed to holding our breath every shift. Ambiance - There should be a statewide referendum banning Thundersticks. Those wore out there welcome with Heely shoes and Jnco jeans. Here's to a split? A TWIN? We need a name for a tie and win.
  7. Not scheduling a dog on the first game of the year would actually help bolster students. It seems like there is always a good crowd on opening night, beating someone 45-0 at half doesn't keep the students too engaged.
  8. Do we have a new Fairbanks intro video yet?
  9. Marcus just needs to manage this game. We need a long drive to start the game so he can get his feet under him. Screens and flat routes to Miller and McGill. Lots of 2nd and 6, 3rd and 2 downs. If we are kicking off to start the game the defense needs to have a big stop early. Getting behind early may test Marcus' patience to make plays. I'm confident he'll let the game come to him. If we can play good defense and draw up a good game plan there is no reason we cant win this game. I'd like to see 24-13 UND if everything goes as planned.
  10. We're not exactly the only one with these business suits. Eight out of 12 Big Sky teams have a black uniform in their set, hopefully they don't wear their 'business suits too'. We're about ten years late to the black party, I would much rather see a revamped home and away set then these cliches.
  11. Love the program just not drinking the kool aid on these uniforms.
  12. Can never be an option or once a year?
  13. Pretty uninspired set if you ask me, not a proponent of the monochrome look. Will more than likely be ridiculed by everyone not affiliated with the program. On the bright side they don't look like Nebraska, Notre Dame, or Wisconsin's recently unveiled jerseys.
  14. Last year's National Championship winning FCS team played in a stadium with the facility name at midfield. I would say graduating from the cement to a legitimate playing surface and keeping the same field design as when we won our national championship is an upgrade. Would I like a logo yes, is it the end of the program? Absolutely not.
  15. The schools have no input in the color scheme, the design firm that creates it determines the scheme to ensure there is continuity throughout the league.
  16. Yep and on Flagstaff's news affiliate he picked Northern Arizona and Cal Poly as sleepers.
  17. Really hope we got the right logo on our fancy new turf....may be outdated before we've even played a down on it. " The Big Sky Conference is undergoing a rebrand, and will unveil a new logo Monday, July 16, in Park City, Utah, at the Summer Football Kickoff. Later this summer, the Big Sky Conference will debut a new web site, which is being designed by Sidearm Sports in conjunction with SME Branding. 18. Does 120th place in Division 1 sound better? Yes we play for the same championship, that's why we should be grateful we have an actual Division 1 championship to play for as well.
  19. Examples? The administration was silent for the better part of the grace period, the only time any news would flare up on the nickname front was close to deadlines. Where was the campaign by the alumni association to preserve the name three years ago? We backed ourselves into a settlement and let the clock run out.
  20. They do write and sign their own letters, this one was addressed to Mr. Faison.
  21. Well we got our first banner guys! The boys down south may be a little scorned though. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/238690/group/Sports/ Can't believe the NCAA would be this inept, nevermind.
  22. Why not? Sounds like the right attitude to have.
  23. I didn't forget that, I remember it clearly. Now Dale Lennon is going to draw a distinct comparison that he thinks he can win anywhere, anytime as opposed to our coach who needs a home playoff game to win a national championship. I'd rather get the focus on my original post of paying the nickname its proper respect instead of rehashing the same old arguments.
