I would like to see UND get more aggressive with offers, especially with the bigger names locally / state-wide. Can't hurt to be first every once and a while.

Hopefully, all the OC drama/turnover hasn't put 2025 recruiting too far behind.  Regardless, UND must have a number of formal offers out by now.  Locally, I've seen offers to:

    1. Jake Starcevic, Kindred; QB/LB

    2.Jack Shaffer, Bismarck; OL

    3. Walker Braaten, Westhope; QB/Athlete

    4. Kade Pietrzak, West Fargo; DL (with 21 offers, including multiple B1G, Big 12)

    There must be more ....

  2. Now that the Landry fiasco, hopefully, is in the rear view mirror, who's the next most likely candidate for the OC job at UND? Internal hire, given Schweigert's contract status (and all the speculation of coming changes)? The Bemidji State guy? How about Beschorner, the running backs coach at the AC? Had a good run as OC at UMD. DII assistant coach of the year while OC at Mankato State. Just passed over, apparently, for OC at the AC ...

I think people use the word integrity like it’s a the 1970s.. there is very little “integrity” in college sports outside of D3.. programs will drop scholarships (happened to friends of mine) .. coaches always leave when they get a better offer.. now players do as well.

there are very few people on this website and others that would turn down 40% more money and more stability than there current job.. most of u would be gone so fast the ink wouldn’t have dried on your old signature..

that being said I’m still suprised that Jake did this.

Hey, I was around in the 70s.  Sorry to hear integrity has gone out of style. Clearly, I'm stuck in the past.

I’m not sure how so many grown men are so butthurt about another grown man making a decision that is best for himself and his family.

Business is business. $$$ and opportunity talks.

Don't know who's "butthurt," but I would guess most posters here are UND fans/alumni and want what's best for the school/program (spoiler alert: this wasn't it). I assumed that's why you are here -- posting daily -- too.

Danny bolting started this. Domino effect. Whoever/whatever caused Danny to leave is to blame for all of this. It's not a tree situation. It's a whole forest situation.

Looks like apples to oranges to me.

Maybe Freund left because he saw the program as a sinking ship, as one poster here claims on a daily basis. Or maybe, as speculated over at UND Football 360, Freund looked at Roehl's situation at the AC (supposedly passed over for HC  due to lack of outside experience) and decided he needed to broaden his resume.  Unfortunate it's at a conference rival, but it is what it is.

For Landry, what changed between the day he accepted the UND job and the day he bolted for the AC? Anything other than what he perceived to be a better offer?

The NDSU job was not open when he took the UND job. Tyler Roehl didn't leave NDSU until this week. I am guessing he meant what he said when he was excited to come back to UND and that he had no intentions of going elsewhere. But things can change very quickly these days in regards to new opportunities. What is the statute of limitations on giving someone your "word"? If a better opportunity comes up at any time, whether it be your first day or 2 years into a job, a person can't be blamed for wanting to explore it, whether that be a student-athlete, a coach, or any person in the community in their normal occupation.

Maybe it's old-fashioned, but it seems to me any modicum of personal integrity would keep a person from bolting from a job commitment after less than 2 weeks, especially with these circumstances. Obviously, others disagree. The bigger point may be that however one feels about Landry's decision, it certainly shouldn't be blamed on Schweigert this time.

You're probably correct but on a list of 50 things wrong with the FB program posters/fans feeling a fan opinion site has become a cluster comes in at #73.

Kind of like the "I don't like the mean tweets at 3 am" argument.

    Agreed.

Wondering about the absence of geaux_sioux for the last few weeks with all that's gone down.

Is he just fed up with the whole situation or did he leave with Danny like the Walrus left with Dale?

Yep. A lot of regular posters are sitting out the cluster Sioux Sports has become.

How long would he have to stay here to qualify as having integrity? 1 year? 5 years? I'm not applauding anyone for anything. I'm just not blaming someone for going a different route after circumstances changed.

    Nine days. Is that enough?

UND football is just not a high-reputation, powerful job right now. NDSU and SDSU are regarded as undoubtedly better jobs, and that should infuriate anyone who loves UND. We know NDSU and SDSU have been better for the past decade plus on the court and field, but now it’s spread to the office, head and hearts of UND alumni. That is beyond damaging.

This current sad state of affairs has to do with the fragile mediocre trend over the past several years, which falls on the shoulders of Bubba and Chaves. When being aggressive and making the rational contemporary decision was necessary, it was instead deferred, and in some cases, the opposite was actually done instead.

An embarrassment, a black eye for UND football for sure -- and a perfect opportunity to trot out your daily diatribe again Schweigert -- but this one's 100% on Landry. He was offered and accepted the OC position at a top 20 FCS program, then bolted in less than 10 days for a similar job at UND's chief rival, clearly hurting his alma mater. His decision, not Bubba's or Chaves'.

Just sick and tired of hearing Bubba Schweigert’s nonsensical rambling and lack of quality leadership. Student-athletes are too. Sooner or later, need to have accomplishments tied to your words.

Where can you find this article you are referring to? Can you post it on here?

Comments were in a newsletter e-mailed (weekly, I think) to Herald subscribers who wish to receive it. Some tidbits from Miller (unannounced transfers, possible trainer hire this week, etc), a recap of a primary story and links for other football stories from the past week.

  13. Interesting post from Tom Miller this AM in his GF Herald newsletter, which includes a wrap up of FB stories from the past week. He predicts "a few more unknown transfers than previous years" when UND announces its late-period signees on Feb. 7; notes there are "at least two" midyear transfers who are enrolled for second semester but have not yet been announced.

    AD doesn't set the lineup.

They concentrate on getting a few coaches from the main seasons in progress (hockey and WBB this week) and sprinkle in minor sport coaches to fill it.

Bubba will likely speak after the next signing day.

Come on. You're spoiling the narrative again.

When is the next signing day -- February? Kind of expected some kind of release this week on incoming mid-year portal transfers.

An up and coming coach with some balls and confidence will take this job.  Three weeks ago this board was on board with the offense being the strength of this team. Nothing changed but the coach.  Two really good QBs, really good young RBs, one of the best WRs in FCS and a well above average OL.  Not a bad start for someone with a pair to prove it and the desire to move up.

I think Homer's got it. There may be some who hesitate, but I gotta believe plenty of capable young coaches would be excited by the chance to prove their abilities at an upper-tier fcs program.

For better or worse, mobility and change are inherent factors in climbing the career ladder for ambitious young coaches. Look at everybody's favorite, Kalen DeBoer; 3-4 years at Sioux Falls, then barely time to unpack his bags at a half dozen stops on his way to Washington.

Interesting and pointed comments from 360 on Danny’s move

Very good assessment of the situation, I think. Wonder also if a chance to diversify his resume played a role.

What is 19-16 the past 3 years for 200?  Take 2 Drake games out and 17-16.  OC makes no sense for the Jacks, QB coach makes sense.  I wanted this next season to see if Danny or Tommy was the issue of not letting things rip.  Now, we'll never know as Lunch Bucket Tommy Gun leads Sparty to a Big 10 Title and Danny wins a Natty as the premier FCS OC according to some.  Give me a break!!

I don't get it. If Freund doesn't have the talent to be OC, why the outrage? His move to SDSU and Schuster's to Michigan State ruin your science experiment?

I suppose he sees the ship doing down and doesn’t wanna hit the bottom

LOL. Pawlak is the busiest guy on UND staff! He was headed for NDSU a couple of weeks ago after a coaching change and now he's off to SDSU, based on speculation about a replacement for departing OC. Love SS. Must be the most frightened, pessimistic fan base in all of FCS.

  19. Congrats to Schuster. Hope he has an opportunity to see the field and enjoy some further success, in whatever measure. Regardless, it has to be a dream come true for a former Michigan HS FB player of the year to end his career as a QB for one of his home state's BIG teams

UND football is becoming a good farm program for the FBS.

Well I, for one, am not buying the Tommy Schuster-to-Michigan State announcement. Gotta be a hoax. I have it on expert authority -- available on this very website over and over and over again -- that he's nothing but DII talent. I can't believe any BIG coach worth his salt would take on a portal QB from UND without researching this site to learn the  litany of his true limitations. You know, Tommy Two Gloves, noodle arm, too slow, too weak, etc, etc, etc.

He was not “thinking of the program”. He said at the start of the year he planned on coming back for another year. If he played better that would be the case. It was a mutual decision for him to leave. That’s totally ok.

I never read/heard any comment from Schuster regarding his plans after this season. Any link/source on his comments or specifics of the "mutual decision"  on his departure?
