  1. This just in... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/dmitry-kulikov-suspended-four-games-for-clipping-tyler-seguin-185347009.html Hmm...4 game suspension for clipping a player who is on (at least very near) the puck.
  2. I have commented on this in the past, and have seen multiple other comments on the topic. You aren't dreaming, there's a been a DU tilt to officiating in the WCHA history books, and it seems to have carried over into the new league. Quite frankly, we need to look at every DU game as starting at least a goal down from the opening faceoff. That said, I haven't noticed it in every game, but its certainly been noticable in the majority of DU games I've watched, and I've been to my share over the years, and watched a lot more online. And yet, even with that, I say just keep your hands on your stick, play hard, charge the net, and forecheck those pios through the zamboni doors. Reffing be damned, we need to bring that A game every time we line up against this team; in my book they are second only to the gophers in overall hatred.
  3. I don't know the answer to either of your first two questions, but to the last, I would just say that the NHL is a much faster game and the ref's have pretty good control, They make calls with better accuracy at a faster pace, and often call holds and slashes I completely miss. So the game isn't too complex, or too fast. But it would sure be nice if we had better ref's in the pool. Perhaps it's a salary issue? Maybe better quality ref's can be had if the league ante's up. Not sayin...but curious to know if that would help.
  4. Does that mean that the ref did not see it on the replay? Wow. I could even see it on the overhead view next to the goalies' leg. And if he didn't see it in real time, it's because he didn't look where Gaarder was pointing. I guess. That's just a crazy explaination. Replay should have fixed that. And if you watch the replay with a behind the net view, it almost looks as though the ref is signaling a goal before he grabs the back of the net. Right about the time the puck is sliding along the goalies' leg. Really poor review, but water under the bridge. If we get DU at the Target Center this will be good incentive to set the record straight.
  5. You've seen the play, right? That's exactly what we're talking about.
  6. Agreed on all counts. I was expecting Moore to get a "free ride in Wehr's corner".
  7. Correct. Clipping (defined as hitting below the knees) is not only dangerous, but a cheap/dirty hit and often results in injury to the hit player. With the puck or without, this should be five and a game. The fact that it was without tells me there was intent to injure on Moore's part, even more reason to toss him from the game. The ref's totally blew the call. (imho)
  8. That was my point. And STILL has the NHL in a buxz because it's a dirty hit. This has nothing to do with "finish your check", it has everything to do with "don't hit a player below the knees". Spearing, kneeing, clipping...all cheap shots in hockey. All of those should be five and a game. Every time.
  9. Compare to this hit that has the NHL in an uproar this morning... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/tyler-seguin-downed-by--dirty-shot--against-florida--eaves-and-hemsky-also-hurt-070006307.html Seguin was at least playing the puck...
  10. Dirty for sure, and it demonstrates to me how the game of college hockey is changing with respect to the 'no fighting' regulations. Ten years ago, one of the Sioux players would have taken Mr. Moore into the boards on his next shift and fattened his lip considerably. Twenty years ago it could have cost him a tooth. Clearly the ref's have lost sight of why it is important to eject such a player from the game...not only a recognition of his unsportsmanlike actions, but also to protect him from retribution. I have to say that I'm a bit surprised that one of our players didn't step up and give Moore 'what fer'. I think the ref's can thank their lucky stars that didn't happen because it would have been on them.
  11. Ref's with the intent to blow. Obviously a pre game decision. 6 more big road points next weekend. GO SIOUX!!!!
  12. When Parks is in beast mode, he's the best skater on the ice. I'd like to see that again tonight please. And LJ...keep your head screwed on and your hands on your stick please. Let's GO SIOUX!!!!
  13. Absolutely. Need to see the TCoS!! Put Omaha in the rear view, lock up that #1 seed, grab the Penrose, and focus on #8. Three big points tomorrow night. Bring it! GO SIOUX!!!
  14. Three big points up for grabs tonight. Let's go out there and TAKE THEM. GO SIOUX!!!
  15. Six massive points on the line. A TCoS goes a long way to that first Penrose Cup. Go SIOUX!!!!
  16. I like that Parks and Mac seem to have finally taken that extra step and are now putting in the goals we expected from them as sophs and juniors. Same goes for OD. Gaarder and Pattyn are annual overachievers, and give their all every shift. St. Clair has come along, but for the guy who replaced Frattin when he left, well...I have been waiting for that breakout performance and haven't seen it yet, but he has improved over the past two seasons. Nick Schmaltz is absolutely the best playmaker we've had in years, his vision and hands are something else. Chyz has become another in a long line of Sioux forwards who are very difficult to get off the puck (VandeVelde comes to mind). And Caggiula, well...he's got the moves and the wheels. Just get him the puck in the slot more often. And I like what Trevor Olson brings to the game, looking forward to having him back. LJ could be losing a slot if he doesn't watch out. But...with all this talent, I still want more. I want a new Trupp. I sure wish injuries hadn't robbed us of so much ice time from him. (apologies to Huey Lewis)
  17. It was "Who's she? She sucks s#!t" back in the early eighties. But I sat in a rowdier section than most.
  18. More of a struggle than I thought it would be, but a reasonably solid effort tonight. Softie by zane that he'd like to get back, but the boys kept up the intensity in OT and made it happen. Good finish. This will make for an interesting game if these two meet in Minneapolis.
  19. Take your Maverick to work day. 5-1 Sioux! Let's Go SIOUX!!!
  20. Once in my 35 years of watching college hockey. Once.
  21. While the PP did come through and score, it would be nice to see us put one in on a five minute major for a change. When is the last time we pumped two in on a fiver? Anyone? Buehler?
  22. Good point. Most pipe shots sound like "ting!". That one sounded like "GANK". Probably made a dent in the corner post.
  23. Spot on. "20 Gage" plays every game provided he's healthy enough to pull on a sweater. Our D needs that presence on the blue line.
