The reality of sports is that the best team doesn't always win. In college hockey very seldom does the number one overall seed win the whole thing. On a separate note for years UND fans have complained that BC always had an easy path to a Frozen Four by getting to always go through Worcester in their backyard. This goes to show that just having a regional in your backyard is a guaranteed ticket to a Frozen Four, you need some puck luck as well.

Good assessment. However Hakstol's teams were notoriously slow starters and took half a season or more to get going. They had the luxury of doing that because the parity that exists today was just starting to emerge then. With the parity that exists today some of those teams probably don't make the tournament in today's environment.
