Ever been cow-tippin'?

Hey siouxguy...gimme the 4-1-1. I don't think I want to splurge on two tickets, but I'd hang out with ya for the weekend. E-mail me at siouxfan19@yahoo.com. I even purchased a Maine hat yesterday just in case!

WPoS, I'm not sure what you mean about how the Gophers could have hosed themselves out of playing at Mariucci. Regardless of whether they had been a #1 or a #4 seed, by NCAA rules, since they are hosting a region, by qualifying for the tournament, whether as the #1 team in the country or #16 just happy to get in, they MUST be placed in their home arena.

Leave the comedy to the professionals, Reformed.

Smoking, bad. Brilliant color commentary? Sure. If you can handle my witty one-liners. Keychain? I've still got a dozen of them burning a hole in my pocket.

Save me two seats, Reformed! LET'S GO SIOUX!

By the way...I need to figure out how to get a new updated pic on here for all you Gopher fans. My buddies and I take a Final Five pic every year...and since I lost a bet last year on the Sioux/Gopher game, I had to wear my friend's Golden Goophy jersey on Friday night. Ugh... The pic, however, is a classic. The fans in our section that we've seen for 5 years now were dying laughing as they all know I am a Sioux fan. The ones who didn't know me looked at me like "what the hell?" when I stood up and went nuts when the CC Tigers took the ice!
-
Good idea, squirtcoach. I, MafiaMan, being of sound mind and body, do hereby bequeath my hockey jersey collection to PCM, WPoS, and 01grad.
-
LOL...yea, no doubt. Apparently the Gopher equipment manager called the X Lost and Found Department...Harrington's jock is still missing.
-
Don't even say the word Harrington to me right now. I'm still not amused with his spear on Stafford with 26 seconds left.
-
Turk, That's funny stuff. Maybe if the announcers had shouted "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL," your new-found friends south of the border may have taken a liking to the game.
-
Sagard, please tell me that isn't a reference to the first goal of the CC game being waived off? If so, find someone who TiVo'd the game and check the replay. I'll tell you one way to not overcome a goal being waived off: Not giving up a goal of your own 40 seconds later!
-
I really didn't think UND had a shot three weeks ago and I still think they're a long-shot, but you're correct, Turk, who knows? It has been a strange season. All I know is that in three weeks when the season ends, I'm probably going to jump off of the Robert Street Bridge knowing that's the last hockey we'll be seeing until next October.
-
Which is it, then, Gopher fans? "We deserve a #1 seed" or "we don't have the horses to get to the Frozen Four"?
-
sagard, I honestly think Sioux fans were saving their Ferris State bucks thinking the Sioux had an easy ticket to play the Gophers. Cue Homer Simpson: DOH!
-
I'm not arguing that REA will have 10,000+ next year without the Sioux. I think I've already mentioned the hockey-poor attitude the fans had last year for the Brown/Wayne State game. There were maybe 500 people in the building for that "classic" game. I'm just pointing out it would be an interesting comparison if the two local teams weren't there. It's easy to say "successful" region when you have Michigan at Yost, Minnesota at Mariucci, and possibly North Dakota at REA and bash the Great Dane and other venues when the local team is nowhere to be found. Like I said, I'm just curious.
-
And wasn't it just a few years that Hockey East was so proudly showcasing 3 teams in Anaheim?
-
Turk77, Take the Sioux out of there and what would you have had attendance-wise? If memory serves me correct, the teams involved were Niagara, New Hampshire, Boston College, Michigan State, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. BC beat Wisconsin and UND beat Niagara. UND and Wisconsin fans made that tournament.
-
Turk77, We agree on something! Nice work. I knew we could do it. I think a lesson everyone learned last year is that you don't go all out like gangbusters for the Broadmoore Trophy. How many coaches watched DU's run and thought "hmnnn...heal up while they duke it out, then quietly get into the NCAA's and win the whole frickin' thing..."
-
Quite honestly, I'd like to see which regional would draw more without the home team, sagard. A lot of the proud Gopher faces I saw on Friday night couldn't even come out to watch the 3rd place game on Saturday. What makes you think they'd watch Maine v Ohio State/Cornell on Easter Sunday?
-
Turk77, You're incorrect. Your 1997 Gophers played Michigan in Grand Rapids, about two and a half hours from Ann Arbor. If you're going to say the Xcel is "neutral" ice and not Gopher territory, I'd hardly consider a two and a half hour drive from Ann Arbor as Wolverine country (except in football).
-
I don't give a hoot what Don Lucia says about the Sioux. What I do care about is how he belittles the whole tournament and the seemingly meaningless third place game. What does that say about the FANS who pay to attend those 3rd place games? I know the NCAA is just hoping Minnesota pulls thru and packs Mariucci Arena and they can pat themselves on the back saying "nice job on selecting Minnesota for a regional." My hope is that it's a Maine/Cornell or Maine/Ohio State final and that there are 500 people in Mariucci and that place doesn't see a regional for another 20 years a la the Great Dane fiasco of a few years back (1999).
-
At least we don't have to hear the word "upset," which is what you'd get if a #4 seed Gopher team lost at Mariucci to a #1 seed Maine. I heard enough of that to last me a lifetime w/the 1998 Sioux team and the 2002 Denver team. I would hardly consider it Jets over Colts or Villanova/Georgetown when a top-ranked hockey team loses to a slightly lower-ranked team that is playing "host".
-
Maine is 6-4-1 in their last 11. Hardly setting the world on fire, Turk77.
