  1. Godsmack has been posting an awful lot lately...almost like he has a lot of time on his hands these days. I think another code has been cracked: Godsmack isn't just an ordinary joe - he's Scott Owens!
  2. I'd notice you being AWOL, too, Blackheart...haven't seen him post in a while...
  3. Damn...I was hoping for a Royals vs Cardinals World Series...
  4. It's the NHL 2014-2015 thread...anyone seen DaveK lately?
  5. Day by day, darell. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
  6. I just don't get the "casual" fan who thinks it's awesome. Last night's Bruins/Red Wings games had lots of action and plenty of great goaltending. A 2-2 tie can be fun to watch...the skills competition to decide a winner ruins it. Can you imagine an early round Wimbledon match being decided by a "fastest serve" contest? A slam-dunk contest to decide an NBA game? The NHL is the only league that uses one set of rules for the regular season and another for the playoffs. It ruins a great sport.
  7. The shoot-out is an abomination to hockey.
  8. Only one bad thing about the uniforms in tonight's Red Wings/Bruins game...it'd be absolute perfection...if the game was being played in Boston! The home team should be wearing white!
  9. Comley played for Mason at Lake Superior State and took over that program after Mason moved on. Rumor was that Mason wanted to retire several years before he actually did, but Comley turned down Mason's job offer. When offered the job a second time, Comley decided to take it.
  10. I have some friends who are 30+ year season ticket holders at NMU and know a couple of former Spartan players - yes, I know what I'm talking about. Ron Mason won three CCHA regular season titles and three playoff titles in his last five years at East Lansing. The Spartans won at least 27 games in each of those five years and won more than 30 in two of those five years. Sparty also made 5 trips to the NCAA tournament and went to 2 Frozen Fours during that time frame. By contrast, Comley's first three years garnered win totals of 23, 23, and 20, respectively, resulting in 4th, 3rd, and 6th place CCHA regular season finishes, and 0 tournament titles. MSU missed the NCAA tournament in 2 of his first 3 seasons at the helm. The 05-06 team rebounded to win the CCHA playoffs and made it as far as the NCAA tournament quarterfinals, which likely saved Comley's job and set the stage for the 06-07 title team. Ron Mason and Rick Comley go back a looooong ways and no doubt, Mason certainly did not want to fire his long-time friend. I was at an NMU/MSU series in Marquette several hears ago and Comley receved a standing ovation both nights in pre-game introductions. He is still treated like a hero in the town for starting up the hockey program at the school. A Yooper hockey legend.
  11. After winning that 1978 title with BU, Jack Parker would go another 17 years before winning another in 1995, then 14 more before winning a third crown in 2009. Rick Comley won with Northern Michigan in 1991. He was just about run out of town in East Lansing until the miracle title win in 2007 helped squelch the masses.
  12. Yea, Miami fans are known for being fickle. Even the MLB champion Marlins had trouble filling the stands during their title years. Florida Panthers = Kansas City Scouts 2.0? Seattle Thunderbirds?
  13. It didn't look like more than 2,500 tops. Not good at all - that's supposed to be a professional team, right?
  14. Yes, Gostisbehere was drafted - my point was that the only offer he had was from Union College. Lots of schools missed the boat on him.
  15. For every Toews and Oshie, there are probably a half-dozen Gregoires and Lees.
  16. Wow! How in the name of Gordie Howe can Miami financially sustain the Panthers? The crowd at an NCAA western regional hockey tournament in Sault Ste Marie, MI would dwarf the one currently attending the Florida/Ottawa game.
  17. Gostisbehere left school after his junior year - apparently 57 teams could use a refresher course on how to evaluate talent. The above-mentioned Shayne Gostisbehere, along with Mat Bodie, Kenny Agostino, Jesse Root, and Andrew Miller could play on my Sioux team anytime they want.
  18. I'm pretty sure it isn't either, but I think UND hockey players might have a different experience at THE Ohio State University, Yale, Michigan, Bowling Green, Lake Superior State, among many others. Maybe a bit tongue-in-cheek with a few references since last Friday, but the logic at UND seems to be to that tossing money around at everything sports-related is a sure-fire way to guarantee national championships, and when those expectations aren't met, heads must roll.
  19. I wouldn't be too quick to write-off Union College as a threat to become an NCAA powerhouse in hockey... 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2013-2014 ECAC conference champions 2012, 2013, 2014 ECAC tournament champions 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 NCAA tournament appearances 2012, 2014 NCAA Frozen Four appearances 2014 NCAA champions Obviously Shayne Gostisbehere (a guy who was offered one and only one chance to play college hockey, mind you) was a big part of that program build-up, but Union's on the map for the long-haul, in my humble opinion. Five years ago, did anyone think Baylor would be the darling of Big XII football? Not a chance. Then some guy who goes by RGIII comes along and now it's the new "it" program in college football. The same could possibly be said of Union in a few years. We'll see...
  20. Are we in competition with Minnesota for the annual "we're ranked #1 in October" trophy that Mark Rosen hands out every Halloween?
  21. I suggested Fighting Shrew months ago...somewhere in this thread...
  22. You're getting the two coaches confused - Bjork Rubeman was the head coach at Sacred Heart back in the day.
  23. Being a Red Sox fan, I would figure you'd be familiar with teams not living up to fan expectations. How many Sox fans penciled their team in for last place in the AL East this year?
