  1. As the team left the ice after winning the 2012 WCHA Final Five, I thought to myself, "remember this game because it's the last time you'll ever see that jersey on the ice." I think it's cool that this year's seniors wore a cap in tribute to the legacy of the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. They may not wear that crest on their jersey chest anymore, but the NCAA can't pry that iconic image out of those 7 hearts. Well done, seniors. To the students and fans who dared to chant last night and defy a university president who openly voices his disdain at anyone who says "Sioux" around his section, my hats off to you. SIOUX FOREVER!
  2. http://capitals.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=463060 http://ndgoon.blogspot.com/search/label/North%20Dakota%20Fighting%20Sioux?updated-max=2012-07-19T12:32:00-07:00&max-results=20&start=19&by-date=false http://bismarcktribune.com/sports/ranking-not-important-to-hakstol/article_b3cbf07b-ac3b-52f5-9057-eb5b3337171f.html http://www.hockeyjournal.com/blog/therink/Bs_prospect_McIntyre_has_unfinished_business_at_North_Dakota I agree with what you're saying about the players and pressure but I don't necessarily think that the company line of "unfinished business" is something Dave Hakstol puts on the players himself. Seems the players themselves - along with the fans and news media - do a good enough job with the demands/expectations of national championships every year. At one of the Final Fives a few years back (I think it was 2011), the team wouldn't even touch the Broadmoor Trophy after winning the tournament because it wasn't the ultimate prize that the team wanted. I don't know who made that decision, but my view is that MacNaughton Cups and Broadmoor Trophies are part of the journey and deserve to be celebrated as an accomplishment in their own respective rights. As fans, we're all in the same boat. If this team wasn't so damn exciting to watch every year, our disappointment wouldn't be so great when it ends without a national title. If we feel that badly, I can only imagine how bad the players feel. Every season brings expectations and hope. It'll be oh-so-special when one of these years finally goes North Dakota's way. For now, I agree with you again - just worry about next weekend's opponent and go from there.
  3. Cue the apology walk down University Avenue on Monday morning...
  4. President of an NBA franchise? I thought Phil was running the Knicks?
  5. How's that saying go again? He who gets the last laugh laughs last? Not ringing any bells. Hey, I'll tell you what. I can get a good look at a butcher's ass by stickin' my head up there, but wouldn't you rather take his word for it? No, what I mean is, you can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a butcher's ass...no, wait, it's gotta be your bull.
  6. At some point, the sun has got to run out of shine for Minnesota's dog-a**, right? #14 after their loss yesterday and after some of today's games, but thanks to Bowling Green's loss to Alaska, they move back up to #11. Simply unbelievable. Goldy should be buried somewhere around 20-25 but they keep hanging on because so damn many other teams are wetting the bed. Ohio State, for the love of all that is holy in college hockey, please score one for the 35-50something PWR teams next weekend.
  7. The %gobc meeting is over already?
  8. Immediately referred to as "Andrew Kozek type s**t" over on GPL...
  9. Nowhere does it say that patrons would be removed - just the sign.
  10. Sound the alarm! Emergency meeting of the %gobc at 10:45pm!
  11. CC loses in OT 6-5. Just kidding, Godsmack!
  12. Don't count your eggs before they hatch! Especially with CC.
  13. I'm glad Minot decided to play the game! Was worried they'd just take the 2nd place trophy after reading some of the predictions in this thread.
  14. Sprinkles are for winners!
  15. gfhockey fails.
  16. Some sports Nostrodamus you are, LOL!
  17. Haven't seen those before...I should be appalled at those uniforms, but strangely enough, I kinda like 'em.
  18. I didn't base that conference line-up on Sioux fans, where they live, their alumni base, and how easy it would be for them to get to games. I tried to be fair to other schools in the imaginary MafiaMan Conference so that everyone had some benefit. I kind of hodge-podged some historic and geographic reasons and that's what I came up with. Yes, I tossed out the storied histories of Colorado College and Denver (and what seems to be a budding program in UNO) but have added some old-time Yooper hockey schools in Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, and Lake Superior State University. Duluth is actually closer to Houghton MI than it is to Grand Forks. Houghton to Marquette is another two hours away but UMD gains a couple of "Copper Country" rivals in Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan (which UMD fans would certainly like). Sault Ste Marie is the X factor, being a whopping 4 hours and 47 minutes away from Houghton, not to mention Duluth and everyone else. However, since it's the only other hockey school left on the UP, it makes sense that they'd be in the conference. It's 4 hours and 18 minutes from LSSU to the closest rival in the lower half of Michigan (Michigan State), so there's not that much difference in terms of travel for the Soo Lakers driving west as opposed to driving south. Minnesota and Wisconsin keep their natural rivalry. Wisconsin to Houghton is over a 5 hour ride, but that's peanuts compared to a 10+ hour ride to State College PA. Even Sault Ste Marie is only 7 hours away from Madison by comparison. Mankato and St Cloud are happy too because they're close to everyone in the state. All Minnesota programs are now back in the same conference. If you wanted to divide the conference into pods, you could go with this: MTU, NMU, LSSU UND, UMD, Bemidji State Minnesota, Wisconsin, Mankato State, St Cloud State Each pod would be guaranteed a home and away series against each pod member. The rest of the schedule would change every year and the pods would rotate. That would prevent something like a UND to MTU, NMU, and LSSU every year and instead perhaps make it an every-third-year road trip. It wasn't something scientific or something I thought was absolutely the best route to go, it was just an idea...
  19. A Michigan loss would kill their PWR. Michigan is the only choice here. Think about the kids.
  20. If Michigan blows thiis game, I'll be convinced that God wants Minnesota in the NCAA tournament.
  21. Wisconsin 1 Michigan 0 end of 1.
  22. No. Minnesota's not making the tournament.
  23. "Burn the ship"? Nah. Let's go with "sprinkles are for winners". Now let's go get some ice cream!
  24. I'm going to add "watching paint dry" to the list of over-used expressions. Don't know why I just thought of it...must be some reason though.
