You claim no one is at EMU because they drove 90 miles to East Lansing, or because EMU is to close to Michigan Stadium.
-
For one thing I reference Detroit for its size 4.3 million people which is just higher than MSP so thats a lot of people who could go to an EMU game if they are a fan, and you can't tell me there aren't fans of them in Detroit. I am sure there are people that would drive to see MSU, or even Michigan, but thats the same with Minnesota or anywhere. In MSP there are little DIII colleges plus DII St. Cloud in an hours time away that people go to and its amazing how they can pack 47,000+ at TCF and a thousand here and there at other colleges and still have more people show up at Bethel than Eastern Michigan. Its not the distance, its their reputation of being a big FBS joke...like Idaho.

MafiaMan is pointing out EMU's poor attendance due to being close to Ann Arbor, and I am proving because there are people at that game doesn't mean people can't show up to an EMU game. I gave 2 examples Concordia with NDSU across the river, and Bethel with the Gophers right across the river, both Bethel and Concordia had higher attendance than Eastern Michigan.

East Lansing to Detroit is 93 miles, while Ypsilanti to Detroit is 35 miles...big difference.

An outdoor version of the Kibbie Dome.

NDSU plays in Fargo--18,622 (Michigan plays in Ann Arbor (111,592), Concordia plays in Moorhead 4427, MSUM plays in Moorhead 1,004 (Eastern Michigan plays in Ypsilanti (4,051) Fargo metro 200,000+; Detroit metro 4.3 million. So when the Gophers play at TCF how come Bethel 4757 can have more than EMU, St. Thomas was also close to EMU 3965. Thats some loud chirping in the Twin Cities when the Gophers are at home.

Good post.

Attendance does create sponsorship and television, something I know the NCAA loves especially at the top level of football.
-
So if EMU plays in the whateverbowl attended by 20,000 in a 60,000 seat stadium there isn't money thats going to be lost if say another MAC team plays in the same bowl attended by 60,000 in a 60,000 seat stadium. Thats my whole point about attendance. I do see where your point is going.

Take that up with Bisonville. Lakes would approve that in a heartbeat.
-
I'm showing you because you have more than one college in a metro area its not an excuse to only get 4k people at a stadium built for 30k. Moorhead has 32,000 and 2 colleges and across the river is Fargo 105,000 with 1 college that has a stadium at 19,000. MSUM averaged 1800, Concordia averaged more than Eastern Michigan. Ann Arbor has over 119,000 with 19,000 at Ypsilanti, with Detroit Metro at 4.3 mil and 100k is at Michigan, while 4,000 at EMU? It all depends on wins and losses not distance.

NCAA makes money off of college sports, we all know that. The more attendance at championship games the more money the NCAA gets (not BCS as you pointed out) look at March Madness if you have say Cal Poly vs EMU for the National Title the NCAA would lose money on attendance as it would be poorly attended. http://www.fox44.com/news/how-much-money-does-ncaa-make-college-basketball

NDSU is across the river, biggest show in town and yet Concordia can get more people than Eastern Michigan. I think MSU-Moorhead had around 1800 being in blocks range of Concordia in a city half the size of Bismarck.
-
More ticket sales more money for the NCAA, plus you get a team with a winning record means bowl games again more money for the NCAA. See where I am going with this.
-
If the NCAA wants to make more money just replace schools that don't comply, its simple. Plenty of FCS schools that could average more than EMU could take their place geographically like Youngstown St.

They did win a conference title once....of course Regan was president and the two Germany's were still divided. (1987)
-
Funny how EMU can get 901 fans for basketball but also in the vicinity is Oakland and they got 2142. Detroit metro has almost 4.3 million people, plus another 19,000+ from Ypsilanti itself. If they can't find 15,000 fans for their football team...and obviously can't find more than 901 for their men's basketball team move out of the MAC and into the MVFC/Summit.

Very true. Maybe this team with home court will beat the goofs.
-
I went to GFCHS and like some alums it would pain us to yell go Roughriders. But maybe in this case we could make an exception.
-
Eastern Michigan 2013 average 5 games 4,051 (only FBS under 10,000) DIII Concordia (Moorhead, MN) 5 games 4,427 45 DII teams and 11 DIII teams averaged more people than FBS Eastern Michigan. That is pathetic!!!
-
Just like the watering down of the Dance as they add more and more teams to it, and allow teams with say 700 average fans to play in it.
-
I can't remember but how did UND get Minnesota to come up here? Home/Home? 2 for 1?
-
I hope we see a whole new team both offense and defense, take all the plays Muss used burn it and start over from the beginning.
