  1. i'm bored... so i'm going through oshie's goals. if he scored a gwg and then the sioux won the game by 1 goals or less (not including eng) i will count that as an important gwg.

    dec 16 vs bemidji

ok, so after going through the w's in which UND won by 1 goals or less, it seems that oshie has just one "important gwg."

here are potulny's important gwg stats:

    feb 17 vs denver

so potulny also has just one gwg that "matters"

and since i was still bored and surprised by that, i decided to take a look at potulny's/oshie's/kessel's goals and if they are helpers (helping overcome a deficit) or piling ons (just adding meaningless goals).

    potulny

    nov 11 vs uaa - (1 goal)

    nov 25 vs mich - (1 goal)

    jan 13 vs UND - (1 goal)

    feb 10 vs tech - (1 goal)

    feb 25 vs uaa - (2 goals)

    mar 4 vs umd - (1 goal)

7 of 34 for 20% of his goals are meaningless.

    oshie

    oct 8 vs miami - (1 goal)

    nov 11 vs umd - (1 goal)

    dec 2 vs tech - (1 goal)

    dec 17 vs bem - (1 goal)

    jan 20 vs man - (1 goal)

    feb 17 vs umd - (1 goal)

    mar 11 vs man - (1 goal)

    7 of 22 for 31%

    kessel

    oct 21 vs man - (1 goal)

    nov 25 vs mich - (1 goal)

    jan 28 vs wis - (1 goal)

    feb 25 vs uaa - (1 goal)

    mar 11 vs uaa - (1 goal)

    5 of 17 for 29%

and just for fun, kessel's meaningless assists:

    nov 11 vs uaa - (4 assists)

    jan 7 vs niagara - (1 assist)

    jan 13 v UND - (1 assist)

    feb 18 vs du - (2 assists)

    mar 11 vs uaa - (1 assist)

    9 of 30 for 30%

    ok, now i'm done.

  2. This result using a 3-2-1 bonus would result in UND and BU in a tie for 4th, UND would win with a higher RPI, thus becoming a #1 seed.

    1 Minnesota (Mn) 29 .5833*

    2 Wisconsin (Wi) 28 .5759*

    3 Michigan State (MS) 26 .5640

    4t [AQ] North Dakota (ND) 25 .5614

    4t Boston University (BU) 25 .5570

that doesn't look like it's out of a question. with the sioux's luck with umd beating du, i wouldn't rule it out.

i guess the toughest part will be convincing miami and bu to just roll over.

  3. i played around with the pairwise predictor... and if all of the favorites win their games in all the leagues, except UND loses to Wisco and St. Cloud, the Sioux drop to a tie at 14th with New Hampshire. That doesn't make me feel too happy. Although, it would drop them to a 4 seed and send the Gophers to Wisco most likely.

I also checked and there are several instances where UND could easily be a 5 or 6 seed without a lot of upsets happening, which also could send the Gophers to a different seed and bring Miami or BU to the Ralph. Throw BC in with BU and we'll just have a big ol Beanpot rematch.

  4. The Thursday play-in game should be a real fun game with UMD and SCSU. I would hope there will be a lot of those teams fans there to make for a fun atmosphere. I'll be pulling for UMD. GO UMD!

As much as I love UMD and am extremely glad they beat Denver, I have to think that the ultimate goal for the Sioux is to win the Final Five. The best chance for that to happen is if SCSU beats UMD and then Geophert steals a game against the Gophers. Three games in three days two weeks in a row is pretty tough to do, and if UND beats Wisco, then the Sioux would get a tired SCSU team. Plus, the Gophers would then lose to Wisco, as Elliott steals a game and so the Gophers begin their post-season spiral into a first round ncaa loss, to bemidji. :silly:

  5. Are the Sioux a "lock" for the NCAA's? Is it safe to buy my Regional tickets for Grand Forks?

yes, they were pretty much into the ncaa's with the w last night. this secured their spot. buy away sioux fans, buy away.

  6. If it came down to sitting away from friends to watch live Sioux hockey, I would do that every game. Yes, it's more enjoyable when you're with friends, but it's still live Sioux hockey.

if that was the only issue, then the place would be packed. but not all students are die-hard, and not all students can afford $15 for a ticket. and not all students are even in grand forks.

  7. Discuss everything going on in Grand Forks this weekend, as reasoning why the Ralph isn't packed. Is there anything else besides Sioux hockey??

spring break and the extra cost for students.

tickets are not included in student season ticket package.

student tickets for the game are $15 and you have reserved seats, so you don't get to sit with your friends unless you all get tickets at the same time.

  8. Now BSU is a TUC correct? That adds 2 TUC wins to our PWR and should giv eus the PWR against Denver, Maine and Michigan, correct? A loss by CC and a win by us tonight will add CC to that list, giving us 4 additional PWR. This is accurate correct?

we win the comparisons over Mich with sioux w tonight. with a sioux w and a cc loss, we can over-take them as well.

  9. Bemidji is up 3-1 with under 7 to play so looking good for the Sioux.

Bemidji with the 4-2 win. Moves them into the NCAA's, most likely to play the Gophers at the Ralph. Looks like it could be a nice home-crowd for Bemidji... and with some luck, they could beat the Gophers.

  10. Bemidji upset Alabama Huntsville last night in OT... which means they play Niagara this afternoon (2 centreal) for the CHA championship. If Bemidji wins, they become a TUC and UND gains two more wins against a quality opponent, including the all important road win.

I've always liked the beavers, but today everyone needs to be a Bemidji fan.

A sioux win tonight, combined with a play-in-game win, could bump us up to a 5 or 6 seed, in which case the Gophers would probably be sent elsewhere.
