Moy's revised Bracketology: USCHO Bracketology

This could actually be Minnesota's third year in row missing the NCAA tournament. Can you imagine if UND went through a stretch like that?

Milewski posted a comment that Moy will be doing a new Bracketology in response to the fans' cries.

One could argue that the Friday afternoon game would be more advantageous for the #1 seed. You'd get to play your opponent on fairly short turnaround, and you'd have more time between the semifinal and championship game if you won. Will be interesting, but I'd be willing to bet that when the "all-set" brackets are released after the first round, Minnesota will be assured to never play an afternoon game. I guess we'll see.

I took it to mean that there won't be re-seeding after the Thursday games. In other words, the winner of the 4/5 game will play the #2 seed, and the winner of the 3/6 game will play the #1 seed, regardless of who wins that game. If this is the case, then they could look at where Minnesota is seeded after the first round and make sure they get the night games. For example, Minnesota gets the #5 seed, they could set up the 4/5 game for Thursday night and then set up the 1 vs. 4/5 winner for Friday night. Again, I don't know for sure, but this is my suspicion of how it will go down.

This is what it says on the WCHA site: I read this to mean they have some flexibility in who gets the night games. I could be wrong.

I don't agree with Moy's brackets, but in his defense, there is this one guideline:

I don't think we'll know for sure until the first round is complete. It looks like the brackets will be set up initially, and re-seeding will not be done. I assume that if Minnesota makes it they will set up the brackets so they will play the night game on Thursday, and also again on Friday if they win.

Wow, did Moy even put any thought into this weeks brackets? USCHO Bracketology First he makes moves to avoid a Denver vs. Duluth matchup, but after all of his moves, he ends up with Denver vs. Duluth again. Plus he has 3 WCHA teams in Green Bay.

Yeah, that loss to CC in January really hurt us. We'd be sitting ahead of Yale right now if we could have gotten the sweep that weekend.

You're forgetting one thing. No way the NCAA will allow for the possibility of an all-WCHA Frozen Four again. You switch Merrimack and Omaha and you take care of that issue, and you have better attendance at those regionals.

I think they could play Quinnipiac in the second round if there was an upset somewhere else in the first round, since re-seeding is done after the first round.. Quinnipiac is a TUC right now (barely). Then if Quinnipiac takes them to 3 games and they lose in the semifinals, I believe we could pass them. The stars would kind of have to align, but I think it's possible.

Agreed. Unfortunately I think it's going to be very hard to jump past Yale. I think they need to lose a couple games against TUC's in the ECAC tournament. In addition, I think we'd need to win the Broadmoor in order to jump them in the TUC record and flip our comparison with them. I have a feeling we are destined for #2 overall in the PWR. Playing Michigan Tech the next 4 games isn't helping our record agains TUCs, which is where we need help right now.

Duluth is a #3 seed and RPI is a #4 seed, so you can't swap them. Swapping is only done within each band of seeds.

College Hockey News

Here's my crack at this week's bracketology: East (Bridgeport): Yale vs. RIT (or Atlantic Hockey Winner) Merrimack vs. Notre Dame West (St. Louis): North Dakota vs. Boston University Nebraska-Omaha vs. Miami Midwest (Green Bay): Michigan vs. Colorado College Union vs. Duluth Northeast (Manchester): Boston College vs. RPI Denver vs. New Hampshire

If we win on Friday, I'd actually be very surprised if we don't see Eidsness in net on Saturday. Brad even mentioned in his chat last week that he thinks Eidsness might get a start at Tech.

St. Cloud Times

I believe we would gain another comparison this weekend by flipping Merrimack if they lose once this weekend to Maine (assuming we swept our series). I'm not seeing much of a possibility of Yale losing any comparisons, so I assume the best we can do is to remain at #2 in the PWR after this weekend. Jim or somebody else with more PWR knowledge than me can maybe confirm this.
