2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
brianvf replied to AlphaMikeFoxtrot's topic in Men's Hockey
Now just time to close out the roster for 23/24 with a 8th dman from the portal and we got ourselves a team. -
Great article on Strathmann and his decision to return to USHL for another season. Seems that the kid is pretty level-headed and is all-in on UND for next year: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/andrew-strathmann-one-win-from-clark-cup-sets-course-to-und?fbclid=IwAR1ScqQLzYJVJma6evSOV3PAgIBMuKZ7Su9GGvs4_6nLbPItFCmw687th6E

It'll be interesting to see how UW does next year. They have some good recruits and transfers coming in...both them and MSU should be improved..."on paper", that is.
-
Do you know some good news that the rest of us don't?

Article on Swanson and his great playoff run thus far: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-commit-mac-swanson-thriving-in-ushl-playoffs?fbclid=IwAR1Y8NmVKOlkhhJA4OglA8frWq9YT75dgw1I5ioekV0rrNXKkbunHJUHyt4

That's culture, UMD-style. And anyone else. -
Sorry that was from last game, not tonight's.

https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/sports/bulldogs-hockey/hermantowns-aaron-pionk-is-coming-home-will-join-bulldogs-blue-line-next-season Is he a Punk like his older brother? I seem to remember his brother injuring a couple UND players with illegal hits.

2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

People have posted that he seems 100% committed to UND regardless of if he comes in or not this year. So I'm hoping that is the case. -

I certainly think he could have played a bigger part of this team next season if he would have stuck around. That said, I really do like how the defensive unit has shaped up after starting from zero at the end of the season. Our top 4 will be very good, and if a few of the freshmen can get up to NCHC speed relatively quickly, they'll be an excellent group by years end. -
Perron looks very Blake-like on this play...spins away from the defender near the blue line, then weaves around two more defenders before finding Emerson camped out in front for the tap-in goal. Emerson from Perron...hopefully we see that combo on the stat sheet a few times next season.

https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/former-und-captains-chay-genoway-and-andrew-macwilliam-claim-austrias-top-title Pretty cool that Genoway and MacWilliam teamed up again to win a title, even playing on the same d-pairing like they used to at UND.

I think a lot of that had to do with his injury. An injury that was even stated earlier in the article, that it lingered for the whole season. -
Recruits that were scheduled to come this fall? Headed to UW or somewhere else?
-
Because it's Wodon.

https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/daily-skate-nchc-big-ten-push-for-home-site-ncaa-regionals They've been saying that for years! The "UMD rule".
-
Nice! Congrats to Trupper! He was always such a fun player to watch, I wish him nothing but the best as he moves up the coaching ranks. There's quite a few UND players from that era that are making nice careers out of coaching/managing.
-
And he completes the hat trick, getting all three Chicago goals in a 3-1 win. Nice steal along the wall and then dekes around two defenders to get the ENG.
-
Perron with both goals for Chicago in a 2-1 playoff game thus far. That second goal is a missile of a one-timer on the PP.

BC is going to get an immediate and big boost next season when those three get added to their lineup. Yes, they'll be young, but they are sure talented. Those will be some good Hockey East battles between the BC trio and Celebrini at BU.

The NCAA really needs to amend the portal rules to not let it be a "free for all". That's just going to end up hurting the smaller schools more and more as the "big" schools pluck talented players from their rosters...like a feeder system. It'll be good once the 5th year "free" year is done, as that will make for less portal entrants. Is next year the last year for that? Or two more years?
