SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play
Big A HG replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Steroids, of course, aren't permitted, and the NCAA has the right to test anyone randomly. I've never heard of anyone being tested though. -
This one is over...AZSioux might as well claim the belt....

Hopefully it's just precautionary and not serious.

Thank you...I agree 100%. No need to belittle anyone for where they're from...especially if you're from North Dakota. Saying things towards another group for where they live is so Minnesota. Let's not be like them. wasanodakker, I hope you don't take some people's comments as generality of what the entire group thinks.

2-0 CC Kangas can't stop anything top-shelf.

I'm all for expansion in college hockey (minus Canadian teams). There are problems with this where hockey stands right now. There is no conference room at the moment right now. And, there are better schools to help expand college hockey than NDSU. If NDSU added hockey, there wouldn't be anyone unknown to how fun college hockey is that would all of a sudden understand it. NDSU fans all know about Sioux hockey, so you're not really expanding much. Other schools like Penn State or Illinois would grow the game far more than NDSU. I'm not saying because NDSU wouldn't contribute much should mean they shouldn't join, but NDSU is a poor fit right now in the grand scheme of college hockey. Assuming Bemidji will be the 11th team, and assuming we'll add a 12th team, there is still no room at the moment. UAH is still looking for a home. CCHA is the best option for UAH (WCHA is THEIR second choice). If the CCHA does their part in adding UAH, and allow a team like UNM or UNO to leave and join the WCHA, both conferences are still full at 12. There's just no room for NDSU, and that's college hockey's fault. With an unconvinced fan-base though, it makes it difficult for any foreward movement to happen at NDSU. There's no rink set in stone, and there isn't enough room to share with Fargo at the UPC. This has all been discussed and mentioned, so please read previous posts. If NDSU can guarantee themselves a successful program that won't lose money, and they can find a rink to play in, and someone can find room for them, then I'm all for them joining the D1 college hockey ranks. But, until then, NDSU is a long ways from joining D1 hockey. They're about 10 years too late right now with the way the conferences are alligned in D1 hockey. IF a Big Ten conference were to form, and NDSU had proof and the resources to start D1 hockey, that'd be their best opportunity.

That's not a gamble worth taking financially for a University. What happens if they don't get the attendance they need? They're screwed. I'm having a hard time understanding why you are so emotionally invested in NDSU acquiring a hockey team. I don't want NDSU to get a hockey team because it just doesn't work in college hockey right now. There's no room for them in a conference right now with the dismantling of the CHA. This is where you have to go back...again...and re-read...again...everything I already stated against NDSU having a team. It's not because of a hatred towards NDSU....it's because of everything else that there's no reason for them to join.

I don't have a channel 70 listed when I go through my guide. I have it as 318 on Midco in GF.

Good thing there are plenty of other games for us to watch at "normal" times to get the ball rolling.

I like how the purple [Vikings] line is the worst outcome.

Go buy a stuffed gopher or buffalo and some rope! Most Wal-Marts are open 24 hours.

Sioux fans aren't going to convert to Bison fans just because they can save an hours worth of driving each way. There are hockey fans that don't cheer for a particular team, but not enough to fill an arena. Yes, there would be Bison hockey fans. Yes, there are people that would check out the Bison play hockey. But, the people in the area aren't accepting enough of the idea to give enough reason to form a hockey team. It'll take too much money and there's too much risk. If there was a big movement from fans and locals alike saying they want a hockey team in the worst way, NDSU would have had one a long time ago. But most Fargo residents are too cool to give notion to the idea of having a hockey team at NDSU.

That's a devilish thing to say...
-
It's the best of both worlds! Gophers lose and Sioux win!

I was implying a stuffed gopher...not a real one...although a real one would have been a bonus.

It really depends on the capabilities of the arena they are broadcasting an event. Twins and Wild games are in HD on FSN because they have HD cameras...but the Mariucci doesn't have these cameras so they aren't shown in that. I believe FSN-RM brought their own HD cameras (can anyone confirm this). The one that was by me both games was not an REA camera and on the side of the camera it said "HD" on it. It'd be nice to have FSSN go HD, but it'd be so expensive. I heard HD cameras are ridiculous in price.

Yeah, and based on everything else I've read from you, you don't know much about anything.

I'm still trying to find reasonable tickets...

I don't think a Big Ten conference automatically equals greats recruits coming in. You'll get a few better guys, but as a whole, I don't think it's as significant as you think, especially in the case of PSU. There are so many intangibles behind the scenes that players consider I'm sure, and we have no idea about them. Also, with a small conference, you'd have to play each team more often, and I don't think that's a good strategy because fans can have an excuse to not go thinking "I'll catch 'em when they're in town the next time." I don't think Michigan's, Minnesota's, or Wisconsin's recruiting will change at all. If MSU can't get decent recruits now, I think it will still be difficult with a Big Ten conference....same with OSU...and for sure with PSU. If it was so easy and such a for sure thing that all the stuff you mentioned would happen, it would have been done already.
