Thanks for the suggestions, but I've already done all that. The CCD is definitely damaged. Someone attempted to clean the CCD with something that left permanent indentations on it. It looks like dust, but it's not. Whatever was used in the cleaning attempt also left a large scratch on the CCD that shows up near the top of the photos. If you look carefully, you can see it on some of the photos. Fortunately, I can use digital editing cropping to remove or minimize the effects. EDIT: To be accurate, I should say that the indentations and scratch are in the glass covering the CCD, not on the CCD itself.

Does this Washington Post article help explain my point? This is exaclty as I said it was. The NCAA put Florida State on its "hostile and abusive" list because it believed that the Oklahoma Seminole tribe opposed the use of the Seminoles nickname. The NCAA did this knowing full well that that FSU had the support of the Florida Seminole tribe. Only after it came to light that the Oklahoma Seminole tribe also supported FSU did the NCAA reverse itself. So while I cannot prove that the support from the Oklahoma tribe caused the NCAA to change its mind on FSU's use of the Seminole nickname, the available evidence certainly suggests that it was a factor in granting the exemption.

I don't know why we're arguing about this because we're essentiallly on the same side of the issue. The fact is, I've been following events related to the NCAA policy from Day 1. I listened to the NCAA news teleconference the day the policy was announced. (It's still online on the NCAA Web site if you care to listen yourself.) I also transcribed the teleconfernce the day it happened. I know what was said and the rationale behind what the NCAA originally did and the rationale they've used since to grant exemptions. I don't need to prove anything to you because I know how and why things happened and the order in which they happened.

I've watched enough of those police video shows to see what happens to people who are thrown from their cars during crashes. No thanks. Once while stopped at a traffic light, a teen-aged kid in the car next to me yelled, "Dude, why you wearing a seatbelt?" I had an answer for him: "I'm allergic to death. "

I went down to South Dakota last weekend and every place I bought gas was equal to or more than I paid in Grand Forks. I guess the state of South Dakota is part of the price-gouging conspiracy, too.

Ideally, that's how it should work. As a practical matter, it won't work that way. And I'm not singling out the American Indian member if one's included. There's almost always some respresentative of some constituency who's not happy that the candidate they favored isn't selected. You see it over and over again.

How do you know they won't move him up when UND moves up? Certainly the NACDA is aware of UND's situation. Wheatever the case, I suspect that opportunties like this don't come along every day. Even if Buning ends up serving for one year, it would be foolish to turn it down.

UND is not currently a DI school. Therefore, I don't see what's so odd about it. Are you suggesting that Buning turn down the opportunity?
