  1. Kupchella and Harmeson have said numerous time in public that there are no strings attached to the Ralph and the Fighting Sioux nickname. Unfortunately, people seem to prefer rumors to the truth. Anyone who wants to know why the rumors stay alive should take the paid tour of Engelstad Arena. When I took a couple of my relatives on it during the summer, the tour guide strongly implied that there might be something to the rumors about the arena being locked up or imploded if UND changed the name. So if the Ralph would like the rumors to go away, it could start by educating its own tour guides. And it's great the Dana Williams is once again trotted out as some sort of objective researcher on the Fighting Sioux nickname issue. Not only is he extremely biased on the issue, it's mind-boggling that the Herald and Forum consider his recycling of seven-year-old data newsworthy.
  2. This tells me a great deal about Williams: I remember when that happened. There was a great outcry that Kupchella had used a dog reference when talking about Native Americans. All this incident did was demonstrate the ignorance and hyper-sensitive nature of some who oppose the Fighting Sioux nickname. People who engage in geneological research (such as my wife) know that "pedigree" is a very common term used to describe a person's ancestry. Kupchella used the term correctly and in its proper context. And yet, Williams and his cohorts were outraged. The fact that Williams wrote an entire essay based on the proper use of a word by someone who wasn't a native North Dakotan and who had been in the state for a year as evidence of "North Dakota-style racism" shows just how far off the deep end he is.
  3. No kidding. Mr. Williams sounds like a real objective researcher. Good catch, Goon.
  4. Someone should tell him about the global warming we've got going on here.

  6. The NCAA had the right idea. The WCHA tried it a while and has slowly drifted back to where it was.
  7. Actually, I got an important call about the Fighting Nokotas nickname project right before the coaches' show started, so I put my digital recorder next to the radio and recorded the show. I can include a lot more detail when I can pause and then type. It takes longer, but it's nice to be able to expand on comments a bit more than usual.
  8. From the Green Mill, Tim Hennessy and Scott Swygman are the hosts with Sioux associate hockey coach Cary Eades. TH: It's a long break for the Sioux until the New Hampshire series after Christmas. You probably have it down pretty well what you do and what you don
  9. People like this are so refreshing.
  10. Hakstol said on the radio Monday that there were some changes coming in the lineup. He didn't say exactly what they'd be. Perhaps he will elaborate more on tonight's Fighting Sioux Coaches' Show.

  13. Hey, you were right about the seating capacity of the Ralph being above 11,500. The day's not a total loss.
  14. I believe it. That's an average of 11,789 per game to date. I'm not sure where the 11,500 number came from. The Ralph says its seating capacity is 11,700.

  19. Sure. And shoot off some fireworks, too.
  20. True. There are people in the press box who are there to run the video and audio systems that play the videos and music that get the Sioux fans fired up. That doesn't mean that they're not professional. It just means that they have different jobs from the people who are expected to be objective, such as the media and the stats keepers.
  21. She did you wrong. You should sue.
