I think the recaps are intended primarly for fans in locations that don't provide coverage of their favorite teams. I find the recap and box score archives very useful for checking stats and events from past games.
  2. It was my 1,000th post at that moment. I'm moving on to new records now.

USCHO is far from perfrect, but having INCH as the ESPN affiliate makes no sense to me. INCH is basically a college hockey features site with some news. They have no scores, no game recaps and no stats. Perhaps they plan to compete with USCHO in that area, but for now, USCHO is a much better source of information.
  4. I'm predicting that he'll be at UND for six years, just like Joe Wilson. How's that for my 1,000th post?
  5. I don't know how many of you have received the latest issue of Sioux Illustrated, but I picked up a copy in the press box Saturday night. There's an interview with Zach Parise that includes an interesting question and answer. There you have it. Some of you people are really ticking off Zach. Knock it off already. There are also two important points we can take away from this. First, Zach has issued an open invitation for us to help coach the Sioux. We can do that. Second, the key word in Zach's statement above is "almost." If he wasn't reading the message boards himself, he wouldn't know that it's "almost" a waste of time to read them. So don't feel guilty about reading the rumors, gossip and speculation posted here because Zach has sort of endorsed it.
  6. Before the season started, Blais said he wanted a balanced nonconference schedule, and that's what he got. As tough as it is to win in the WCHA, he doesn't think it makes sense to play a nonconference schedule that's too challenging.

Not only that, but I firmly believe that Vanek is only half a team, not a whole team. So take that, Doug Woog!

Hold on. Let me get a pen and paper.

If you see Vollrath, he'll be in the stands because he's not on the team.
  10. I'm sure that their spirited rivalry with Uzbekistan will continue to be the talk of the international hockey world.
  11. I wouldn't be so quick to put Foyt in with Fuher and Schneider. He may prove to be a good offensive defenseman, but given his lack of playing time against UMD, I'm thinking that he has a ways to go. Speaking of Fuher, after the game Saturday he was laughing about his goal against Reichmuth and comparing it to the blistering slapshot he scored in OT against Denver last season to put the Sioux into the WCHA Final Five.
  12. He did pick the Sioux to finish second in the conference. I don't know how anyone could not pick Minnesota as the favorite to win it. So I do think he's giving the Sioux enough credit. However, some of his analysis is wrong concerning lack of offensive defensemen. In WCHA play, Andy Schneider was only one point behind the highly touted Keith Ballard. Nick Fuher had a good sophomore season and should be even better. How many offensive-defensemen does a team need? Personally, I wouldn't trade Minnesota's defensive corps for North Dakota's. We don't know yet how the goalie situation will shake out for the Sioux. However, if he thinks UND has problems in that area, then so do the Gophers.
  13. I've seen it twice. All I can remember is that just when you think it might be getting good, it ends.
  14. On Dale Lennon's show on WDAZ Sunday night, Pat Sweeny asked the coach which QB would be starting against SDSU. Lennon said he didn't know yet, but that he would make the decision early in the week. Maybe he had to say that to be diplomatic, but it certainly wasn't the answer I expected.
  15. Sometimes I have trouble figuring out how a goal was scored, even with access to replays in the press box. If I'm not sure, I try to ask the goal-scorer and the goalie what happened. I'm always amazed at the detail in which players can remember a goal. It's as if they see the game in slow motion.
  16. Many people have posted their thoughts on this issue in threads under the Sioux Name forum. That would be a good place to start your research.
  17. SHE is my dog. Her name is Sundae because we thought she looked like a turtle sundae. We call her Sunny. That confuses people who think that she's a male named Sonny.
  18. Beagles rule!
  19. Genoway made the feed from behind the net to Fuher. No way was it a deflection of a Genoway "shot." Fuher's stick got tied up just as he was about to make contact with the puck. He got a piece of it, but not much. Reichmuth described it as being like a change-up pitch. The puck, which wasn't moving fast at all, didn't go where he expected it to go. I could see the Duluth announcers thinking that Fuher's shot might have been deflected off a defender's stick, but neither Fuher nor Reichmuth described it that way.
  20. The jerseys were on the south side of the Pro Shop where they were serving food. I didn't see the jersey's or the food until I was on my way out.
  21. Well, if you insist...
  22. Stafford said after the game that his shot went through the 5-hole. Reichmuth said: "It was a quick one-timer from the slot. It beat me through my legs." I couldn't tell for sure on the replays I saw, which is why I asked the players. When the shooter and the goalie agree, I tend to go with what they say.
  23. For a variety of reasons, I have decided not to shoot pictures this season.
  24. Also a good point. It just seems to me that UND's passing attack would be more effective by spreading out the passes to more receivers. But the Sioux throw almost exclusively to their wide receivers, which has to make the defense's job a lot easier.
