I can't believe that someone actually voted for Gwozdecky's gardening gloves.

I think the Sioux are playing better. Plus, unlike the last time UND played DU, the Sioux come into the championship game rested and with their entire roster healthy (more or less). I also think they've gained a lot of confidence since that game in their ability to score against top goalies. The Sioux power play is better and so is their penalty killing. If Steve Piotrowski refs the game rather than Matt Shegos, who I thought was awful in the DU-CC game, I think it helps the Sioux.

After Thursday's UND-Minnesota game, I'm wondering whether Tyler Hirsch read my sudo summary.

Today's Grand Forks Herald has an article about Matt Smaby that includes the Feaster quote: This quote speaks volumes about the current state of play in the NHL (if it ever plays again) and reinforces why I enjoy watching college hockey so much more than the pro game. In essence, Feaster is saying that Tampa Bay wants Smaby to learn to hook, hold and obstruct, and if he doesn't, it hurts his development for the NHL. If that's what it takes to become a good NHL defenseman, then I don't care if the NHL ever comes back.

Staying out of penalty trouble will be important, but I have confidence in UND's penalty kill. Don't forget that up until the CC game, Denver's power play conversion rate in the playoffs had been a horrible 8 percent. I'm thinking that the Pioneers used up their power play puck luck against CC.

Actually, after the game, GDM - your faithful SiouxSports.com moderator - called me from a location in Columbus at which Sioux fans were consuming adult beverages and made the same point. Given how some were getting on Hakstol for not using timeouts, it was a good strategic move on his part. Plus, he knows which gloves to wear for hockey practice.

I agree. Why wouldn't any NHL team want a big defenseman who can play physical and not take penalties? I'd say it's a plus, not a minus.
