According to collegehockeystats.net, Bina played in 32 games, 23 as a defenseman and 9 as a forward. The games in which he's listed as a forward are: 12/17/04 Canisius 12/18/04 Canisius 1/15/05 CC 2/4/05 Denver 2/5/05 Denver 2/26/05 Wisconsin 2/27/05 Wisconsin 3/4/05 SCSU 3/18/05 Denver I'd forgotten about him playing forward against Canisius and at CC. At any rate, the Sioux had played 20 of their 36 regular season games before Bina played wing. Six of his starts at forward were during the last 12 games of UND's 45-game season.

Are you sure that you're not thinking of Fuher? He was switched for forward for a while around that time.
-
He didn't play forward until near the end of the season.
-
Well, look who was already ahead of him: Greene, Jones, Schneider, Fuher, Smaby and Bina. It wasn't exactly an easy lineup to crack.

I neither said nor implied any such thing. I wasn't questioning the wisdom of that particular letter being made public. Some said that as a matter of course, Kupchella should expect any letter he writes to be made public. I questioned the general principle of making public the letters of job applicants for high-level jobs. Looking back in this thread, I see that Kupchella's letter was published on Marshall University's Web site. Given that the letter was marked "confidential" at the top, perhaps he gave the university permission to post the letter on its Web site. If that's the case, he probably has already informed the appropriate people that he intends to leave UND and is applying for other jobs.
-
So everybody who applies for a job at UND -- or any government insitution, for that matter -- should expect to have their letters of application published in the Grand Forks Herald or the Fargo Forum? If Kupchella leaves, are the local papers going to print the letters of application from every cadidate who applies for his job? Why wasn't this done for all the AD candidates? I think this practice has the effect of discouraging some good candidates from applying for high-level positions. Kupchella might have (unwisely) expected the media to exercise some restraint and use a bit of common sense. Obviously, the media has every right to request such information under open records laws and publish it, but I have to question the wisdom of doing it .

I don't think he expected his letter of application to be made public, and it's unfair to him that it was.
-
I imagine that this makes perfect sense in the Tin Foil Hat Society. You apply for a job so you can turn it down as a sign of your loyalty. Of course, you'd also have to hope that nobody points out that if you were truly loyal, you wouldn't be applying for new jobs in the first place.

Murphy Brown? I think she had at least one or two good seasons left.

There was another clue in today's Herald about what the Pentagon has in mind for the Grand Forks Air Force Base. I found this statement by Sen. Conrad especially interesting:
-
The Herald article said Murray's deal was rumored to be between $300,000 and $400,000. Who knows whether it's at the low end of the range or the high end? It also includes the use of a car and an apartment.

I know you're joking, but just so that nobody takes you seriously, I should explain that I wasn't a member of the press in any way, shape or form at that time.
-
I'll bet it seems like a pile of money to a 20-year-old kid with two years of college, too.
-
Although I agree with most of what you say, I have to call bovine scatology on this one. That is not why he was hired.
-
Isn't it ironic? We tend to think that with the problems the NHL is having, the danger of players leaving early is greatly diminished. But it happens anyway. Good luck to you, Brady. I was looking forward to seeing you healthy in a Sioux uniform for a least another season, but I cerainly understand why you wouldn't want to pass up this opportunity.

We picked the right horse...by a shoulder.

Sorry. I read too fast.

How do you know Jay Panzer's not interested in coaching? I've heard that he is from someone who'd know. Whether he's interested specifically the the GF Central job, I can't say.

The Sicatoka posted a trivia question about retired Sioux jersey numbers. Here's his answer from May 6, 2002:
-
How does that team get away with having two goalies? Or is Oshie just that good?
-
I believed you because I've been hearing the same thing, although not from any official sources.

B&N = UND Bookstore All of the Sioux and World Juniors books are now in the sports book section near the back of the store. I don't know how many they had compared to what they have now, but unless there's a big run on them, they won't be running out any time soon. B&N originally bought the entire print run. I believe that the Ralph bought 50 copies or so from B&N to sell at the Pro Shop. That might have been what the Ralph was selling.

I was at the UND Bookstore today and there are still lots of "75 Years of Fighting Sioux Hockey" books available. However, they are not being sold for $1 each. They are 75 percent off, which makes them $5 each. The World Juniors book, "The Road to Grand Forks," is selling for $1 each. There are a lot of them left, too.
