Sorry, but Hennessy was dead wrong. I went back and looked at the replay. Smaby tried to shovel the puck into DU's zone. It was heading that direction until Carle got his stick on it and chipped it back past Smaby. Oshie was chasing down the puck and tripped over Smaby's leg. With Oshie out of the play, May picked up the puck, went in two-on-one and scored. Carle created the play. He absolutely deserved the assist.

As I explained, if there's a question on scoring, the tape is reviewed to determine who should be credited for goals and assists. Representatives of both teams have to agree on it. Nobody gets "a phantom assist off the bench." That's my point.

My point still stands. Nobody gets assists "off the bench."

Anyone remember when Prpich did the same thing to Lee Green, UAA's defenseman, during the 2004 Final Five? Green barely made it off the ice after that. I had to laugh when they showed the UAA bench and all you could see were Green's skates pointed toes up on the dasher. If Paukovich isn't a soprano tonight, he got off lucky.

Actually, I think the game you're talking about was in Grand Forks. Senja was given an assist after the game was over that kept his scoring streak alive. However, as with all assists, it happened after representatives from both teams reviewed the tape and mutually agreed that he deserved to be credited. Contrary to popular belief, that's the way it works. I know. I was there.

I think we need a Wisconsin moment like we had last year when the Sioux took three of four points from the Badgers. It was the second to last series of the season and gave UND real momentum heading into the playoffs. Before that, the Sioux had gone 0-4 against Wisconsin. Getting over the hex the Pioneers have had on UND the last two seasons could be just what the doctor ordered for a strong finish.

He sure does. It's one of his favorites, right below his green Sioux jersey.
