I can't see UW making as many mistakes as UND did and I expect Elliott to be on his game. The home ice advantage should help the Badgers, too. I'd prefer to see the national champion be a WCHA team. I've never had much use for BC's elitist, snobbish fans. So I might watch Saturday's game a bit just to see who wins.

That makes sense on so few levels.

The WCHA coaches picked UND to finish 5th in the league. Many "experts" said they were too young to win anything this year. I don't know whether or not the Sioux were "supposed" to be that the Frozen Four, but I do know that many didn't expect them to be one of the last four teams playing in April.

I'd be very surprised if that happened.

I agree. That's why I always say that I don't believe anything about who's staying or who's going until I see which players are on the ice in Sioux jerseys when the puck drops for the first game of the season. But I do think the players themselves are the best source of information rather than "somebody told me." Until events prove otherwise, I'll take them at their word.

UND hosted the Subway Holiday Classic in 02-03 and 03-04. It wasn't held last season because of the World Junior Championships being at the Ralph. It wasn't held this season, either. I haven't heard of any plans to revive it.

Thank you for the classy post, Locogopher. You are a credit not only to the Gophers, but to all college hockey fans. I agree with everything you said. I like to watch college hockey -- no matter who's playing. I watch a lot of Gopher games on TV when the Sioux are on the road, and I've watched a lot of Gopher hockey on the TVs in the press box of Engelstad Arena. Does that mean I'm a Minnesota fan? Hardly. But I do admire and appreciate the way the Gophers play the game. My hat's off to you and other college hockey fans like you who share the same philosophy.

Tim O'Keefe said on yesterday's post-game show that there would be something for the team at REA on Tuesday. He said he hoped that there would be a good turnout of Sioux fans.

Great post, kfah1. Let's not forget that this Sioux team was picked to finish fifth in the WCHA at season's start. They finished fourth and had a great run at season's end, winning the Broadmoor Cup and the West Regional. If anyone told me at the beginning of the season that UND would be one of four teams in the nation left playing in April, I would have taken that in a heartbeat. It's been a great run and a great season. Nobody should hang their heads in shame -- not the players and not the coaches. We are among the most fortunate hockey fans in the country to see such high-quality hockey every season in one of the world's best arenas. Let's not forget how good we have it. I can hardly wait until the puck drops again next season.

Here's the NCAA story on the Frozen Four. Note that Boston College is the Eagles, Maine is the Black Bears and Wisconsin is the Badgers. UND is North Dakota. Ironically, this Web page opens with a Pontiac ad at the top featuring the company's arrowhead logo. Also ironic is the fact that while "Sioux" is derived from a French word, "Dakota" is an Indian word, and so is "Pontiac." Obviously, the hypocrisy of it all is lost on Myles Brand and Walter Harrison.
