  1. It is too bad this one isn't on Directv. After my lousy streaming experience last night with the NDSU/Oregon BB game I am about ready to go over to our local internet service provider and club someone. The feed in Fargo was evidently fine. The price paid for living in the Outback I guess..... :(

  2. Let's face it. The main reason NDSU fans have any interest in SIU is that Dale Lennon is there. They need to get over this Sioux thing.

I think that increases the interest, but SIU has been a top contender in the MVFC......and that will always generate interest because of playoff implications if you beat them.

  3. Cue the Cam Newton fiasco. Not that UND could recruit any where near that kind of talent nor does UND have $150-200K to get a stud like that! ;)

To me, the JC route is nothing more than a band-aid on a gaping wound.

Some programs have had some good luck filling in some gaps with JUCO players (not too much at NDSU). I think if you find the right people it can help fill holes that develop as recruiting classes mature.

  4. And I foresee a "MAC-like" FBS conference in the west in the future when the research-wing of the BSC is all ready to jump.

I have argued with people about this on Bisonville also......who on earth would want to be in either the MAC or the WAC? I would not at all support a jump to either of those.

  5. So, it now appears (after the Montana announcement) that all 4 Dakota schools are exactly where they want to be.

Why exactly are we bitching at each other?

Because that is what we do.....it is a law of nature......

  6. Wow, great news! NDSU, make the right decision. You belong with UND and the montanas, not usd and sdsu and the others.

Personally, I like the Sky as long as the Montanas are in (a bit biased because I could see a bunch more games). But, from a travel cost perspective it would surely not make sense to switch.

  7. Speaking of nuts.......do you have any extras laying around? You'll be one short right?

Montana is staying in the BSC. :D

LOL.....oh it gets worse......I also said this on Bisonville when one my Kool-aid drinking fellow fans said the Bison could go 8-3 this season.....

I think we will see a monkey fly out of my ass before we see 8-3 this year.

I should probably just stick to drinking this weekend and NO wagering.....

  8. The last time UND had back to back losses was 1985-86. That was the last season for Pat Behrns and the beginning of the Roger Thomas era. So historically UND bounces back from a losing season. 2002 (5-6) 2003 (12-2 lost national title game). I agree the Alerus needs a fun environment. I was there for the Potato Bowl game. The parade was fun downtown (kids loved it!) and the tailgating at game looked great a lot of businesses giving away free food and it was fun. Does anyone think maybe the lack of the campus atmosphere has something to do with attendance? Location of the Alerus compared to Memorial Stadium. At least the Fargodome is near the NDSU campus, the Alerus is in the middle of nothing.

Some of the students say the Fagodome is a long ways from campus..... :silly: At either place....a poor excuse not to show up. Things can be done to create a campus environment. Simple stuff....like having the band wander throught the tailgate playing stuff like "In heaven there is no beer".

  9. Dan - this is one of the rare occassions where you are spot on with your analysis. I completely agree. You have now added value to a conversation on SiouxSports :) And don't worry, even when you don't add value I do like your ability to get people riled up over here......

Posting on the WYO boards is a bit dull because there isn't another in-state school to argue with...... ;)

  10. Just look at the attendance of Sioux hockey when we aren't winning back in the old Ralph. Crowds were small (except Minnesota). But you win a national title or even play for a national title and fans flock to the arena.

There are things the schools can do to make the football games more of an event. I think a lot of it starts with encouraging a fun tailgating environment. Good tailgating also means the schools have to allow alchohol comsumption as well as planning other "events" during the tailgate. If people look forward to a great tailgate as well as the game, I think that can blunt some of the negative attendance from a mediocre season. However, too many bad seasons in a row would spell problems for any program. In North Dakota, the tailgate issue is a big one, in large part because of the incredibly provincial attitude towards booze.

  11. Might have been a lot more bitching from a 380 mile bus ride in a blizzard from GF to Vermillion or vice versa. Vermillion is not exactly close to anything for easy travel west either. Actually the best travel partner for UND would be NDSU or even Minnesota (oh my god, would they be competitive in the BSC?)

Football?? No, Minnesota would not be competative in the Big Sky. I would see the NSIC as a better home for Gopher Football.

  12. Wait til Montana comes to the Alerus. It will be a sellout. Its like getting a FBS team to come to Grand Forks. I hope it will be on FCS, as the country will be watching this one.

OK......I want to smoke a joint of what ever the hell you have been smoking to come up with that one......LOL!!!!!

  13. Minot just had their SLC service dropped, so not sure if Delta will go for it yet.

For schools like Portland St, EWU, Montana, and Montana St, they all have access to MSP Delta. Although they would add air miles going east of GFK, it's actually fewer miles than going south to SLC or Denver.

Still, SLC or Denver to GFK would be great.

Wow.....that surprises me with the big oil boom going on. You would think that would be money maker for them. Thats a shame. All former Northwest cities in ND ought to get service to both Delta hubs (that are in this region of the country).

  14. Why is it that when any sporting event from North Dakota (whether it is UND, NDSU) is broadcast on directv in SD and not HD? It is like HD has not even made it to ND for athletic events. My understanding is the difference is just in the cameras they use. I would think HD would be a real plus for hockey where you are trying to watch a puck, but alas......no HD in ND as of yet.....

  15. Jeff Kolpack on WDAY-AM on Saturday morning stated that SIU voted for USD into the MVFC only after they got assurances that they'd only have to make one conference trip to a Dakota school (NDSU, SDSU, USD) per season.

Knowing that, why would they schedule UND?

Actually Kolpack stated they would like 2 charters a year. There is nothing in the contract with the MVFC that says they are guarateed that. That is what was said.

As to SIU playing UND, I would think that if UND needs some help in finding OOC games a former coach would be a good place to look . A home and home would give each school a decent gate because of the history with Lennon. Surely it would be more interesting that playing a patsy in OOC competition.

  16. Based on what I saw from SIU on Saturday, Lennon must be having some trouble down there. I believe that the last of Kill's recruits are gone and now what we are seeing is a total Lennon product. This edition of the Salukis has been the weakest I have seen since NDSU started playing them. It will be interesting to see if SIU improves or not next season. NDSU was not a strong team on Saturday and despite this SIU never led in the game.

With Lennon coaching at SIU and since he is a former UND coach, it would be a fun game to see him bring SIU to Grand Forks for a game. I would think the would be open to a home and home for some OOC competition.
