  1. The Bison ought to win by 30+. But.....hard to say if they will get that done. They are a young team and young teams have a hard time bringing the "A" game every day. One has to look no farther than the stink fest they had against Green Bay. And.......how much will the Sioux be up for this. Clearly, if the Sioux beat the Bison, that single game would live on to define this season for UND. In the end, this game has some rather dangerous aspects for NDSU. It will be interesting indeed.

  2. I go over to Bisonville almost every day to see what's going on there. Because I'm a sports fan and there local. Whe you read the posts you get the feeling Lakes posts under many usernames. Kinda funny. There's on thing you can count on on Bisonville when things are not going well for the Bison. They start up a UND-Grand Forks sucks thread. It's internet cat nip for the Bison faithful. It doesn't take long to get about 50 replies. You can see them all nodding there heads in agreement . You gotta love rivalries.

    LMAO.....that is a good one!

As for the tickets being bought out by BWW......Kinda to bad because that really puts a crimp on anyone that decides late to go out to a BB game........but then again this game is about money.

  3. How many Sioux fans will be there? It would be fun to sell this out. I think that would take something like 9000 tickets and I think they are around 7000 sold now. The problem is that I suspect the remaining seats are not that great as the Fargodome is not a great BB facility. I was tempted to head to the football game, but after freezing my ass off at Bozeman (getting xrayed today for pneumonia), I decided to use my tickets to this one and head to Fargo for some BB. I will watch FB at Buffalo Wild Wings.....

Safe travels to anyone heading to Fargo this weekend!

  4. I have a 42" plasma in my basement bar. It works very well down there, but it is one of the darker rooms in the house. 2 windows and they are on the north side under about a 18" overhang. I do think if I had it in an upstairs room that glare would be a problem. It is not a high end TV (bought at Pamida a couple years ago on a black Friday special) but is is great in that room. I think you have to be sure and get the right TV for the room and I would agree a plasma is not a good choice for every room. As for the heat issue.....my basement is a fairly cool area of the house, so heat is welcomed.

  5. I agree, that both the Nickel and Sitting Bull trophies should be displayed...in Grand Forks. If I recall correctly, UND won the last contest for each and the series.

Myself and most Bison fans reall don't care too much. If UND wants five guys to take turns hiding it in each others garage.......no one cares. It does seem pretty stupid however.

  6. Maybe Dale took to to SIU with him.

But on a serious note these trophies should be on display either at GF or in Bismarck. Plus they could have the Dakota Marker there too. We should appreciate all our sports history.

Except for the fact that the Dakota Marker is an active trophy......the others are not active and are historical relics. With all this fighting over nick names, no one will ever play for either of those trophys again. But, it would seem to make sense to have them on display somewhere. If they stay out of sight for too long they are going to be completely forgotten andf wind up in someones basement bar. That would be unfortunate as many older alums from both schools have memories of battles for the Nickel. I also wonder if the Nickel and athletic nicknames would be too controversial of a topic for the State Historical Society to touch.....they may not want to jump into such a display. Regardless........both of those trophies are dead and will never be played for again.

  7. Where is the Nickel is it on public display at UND?? I am sure my kids would love to see it. Also is the nickel with the Sitting Bull Trophy?

If I recall correctly, when the Sitting Bull trophy was retired it went to USD for disposal or display (not sure what they did with it). It was USD that originated that trophy.

  8. Yup - display it proudly at the Heritage Center in Bismarck along with a complete list of the games and scores.

Absolutely, it is a part of the history. The display should also show the history of the nicknames depicted on the trophy. How each logo has evolved etc. I think that is especially important with the loss of the Sioux nickname. The NCAA may have forced a change in the name, but it is a huge part of the athletic history of the entire state of North Dakota.

  9. NDSU really played poorly against Green Bay. I would have to say that I am less confident of a win after watching that. NDSU should still be favored, but I am concerned about not being able to play consistantly. The teams that do well in BB are always able to master consistant play at home and on the road.

  10. I would asume that the Nickel is permanently retired since the Sioux logo is no longer going to be used. I would imagine it should reside with the team that won it last and also won it more times than the other team. Therefore it's permanent home is with UND. I really don't think there is any debate over that, UND won the series and that's that.

Actually as a part of ND history it would be appropriate to place it at the Heritage Center. You guys are not even going to have than nickname anymore.....doesn't that nickname end at midnight today? I guess if the UND folks want to cling to it, the NDSU fans probably don't really care anymore. Like I said earlier.....it has been left to the dust of history.

  11. On a side question....Is the Nickel Trophy permanently retired, or if UND-NDSU ever renew the rivalry either every year or every other year would they bring the trophy back?

I think it is history......I would imagine the games would be played......but it was the students that kept the importance of the Nickel alive. The last time the teams played this current crop of students were in either middle or grade school. By the time we play again (probably in the playoffs on down the road) the Nickel will be just a piece of history for some of us older alumni. Probably time to send it to the State Historical Society.......

I am amazed when you talk to current students, most don't have a clue what it is. But, then again, most students can walk their asses a couple blocks to a football game and support the team.

  12. Appy State, Nova, EWU, Delaware, New Hampshire, Wofford and Bill. No pick on the Bison game since I am probably not a rational fan regarding that outcome. I will say......the Bison are significant underdogs.

  13. Just over 12K for your 1st ever playoff game in the Dome and 1st playoff game in almost 20 yrs?!?!? "Bison Strong":huh:

I don't want to hear ever again from any SU hack on this site about FB attendance, Bison FB being the biggest followed sport's team in ND, ect... Especially after, on the same night, UND hockey draw 11K for a non-conference game.

Good win for SU FB though...should be a deent game heading out to play the 'Cats. Insider info and opinions from Missoula and Griz country say that this 'Cats team is their best since the '84 NC team...for whatever that's worth. If it's on TV, I'll take the time to watch it.

I would suspect that Altitude will pick this one up....If you have Directv you could probably get it. I have seen a few Montana State games on TV this year and the MSU QB is nothing short of stunning.

  14. I was shocked at how much difference it makes having Brock Jensen at QB. The Bison actually had an offense at times. It seemed Jensen was rather rusty until the 4th quarter. The Defense was very good as it has been for most of the season.

  15. I assume most fans from both sides think it is outrageous that the Bison and Sioux don't play each other. Your comment about the legislature staying out of this is akin to saying "keep your government hands off my Medicare."

Actually most Bison fans could not care less about playing the Sioux, and quite honestly, most the Sioux supporters I know feel about the same way since you guys got into the Sky. Cory Mock is a damn fool for what he wants to do......and before you accuse me of being a right winger for being down on Mock, I will tell you that I am a past State Chair of the ND Young Democrats and most who know me would say that I am from the left wing of the Party. I just think Mock is an idiot for trying to pander to a few folks on this issue. As a Dem I find that kind of move is where people get the idea that Dems promote too much government. Mock is a fool.

  16. Good call Bin. I'm picking Stephen F. Austin from the top as a sleeper. There always seems to be an unseeded team to make a run in FCS and I'll take that offense to win a lot of shootouts in the playoffs. From the bottom I'll pick Deleware. I think they where the best team throughout the coarse of the season and expect that to continue. I think Deleware will win it all.

I was in Dickinson the other day and they had a huge write up about Mont. St. in the paper. I guess they cover the BSC a lot there. Anyways I didn't realize Mont. St. has a freshman qb who was the MVP of the Big Sky. They also have a younger defense. I like them but don't think now is their time.

As far as today, I'll take Coastal Carolina, ndsu, UNI and Georgia Southern.

There are quite a few kids from Dickinson and Williston that go out to Montana State. It is not much further distance wise to go there than to the Unversities in the Valley and now with WUI scholarships, no one has to pay out of state tuition for undergrad school. My brother went to school at Montana State, but back in those days there was no WUI, so he (my parents) got screwed and had to pay out of state tuition.
